Hey Ecks, as promised, here's a pic of the note I was going to leave in the lockers if I had gotten the ball. I figured i'd post it for all of us who didn't make it in time.

It's more time, and effort than I would've thought to put into the note. Smile

did you guys see this yet?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140221157974

some A-hole is selling the Portland bag on ebay?!!!??!?!

From what I've gathered it's a Radio Station.

This just breaks all the rules and takes the fun out of it.

Not to mention the ridiculous price they have on it.

Yeah, I was just getting ready to post this. Freaking sucks for the fans in Portland who were hoping for a shot at another Joker phone.

Lame. Lame. Lame.

Does anybody know a way to contact WB or 42E. Perhaps there is something they could do to influence eBay to pull the auction.

It's a kick in the crotch to us fans who actually played the game.

Not yet, I'm going to be looking this afternoon. Hopefully they've posted somewhere.

One thing that I got out of my experience yesterday at the Kingston, MA bowling alley is that this game has attracted all kinds.

This is good news in the sense that it is getting to a fairly wide and diverse audience, one that goes far beyond the 'veteran ARGer' world, and even beyond the excited fans at SuperHero Hype (at least a few people there were 'sent' by a friend or a relative, and they themselves had no interest except in getting whatever was to be gotten for them).

This is bad news only in the sense that the expectations of participants that are new to this kind of thing might be a little out of whack.

My own experience: There were about seven or eight people at the bowling alley at 3PM, when and where we all presumed correctly that the information on website would update and lead. As expected, a locker number and combination was posted at 3PM (when this particular bowling alley opened ... although they had let us all inside beforehand because the weather outside was pretty unpleasant). Then it was down to who could get the information relayed to them soonest and who could get to the locker first.

In our case, the person who did get there first was not the type to share. And by that I mean that once this person opened the locker, they refused to even let anyone else see what was in the bag. They fled to their car and drove off. Myself, I just wanted to take a couple of photos ... and the nice fellow from the SHH forums who had been waiting there for four hours, I think he probably just wanted to see what he had spent his day hoping that he would at least see, if not take home.

But, this is the nature of the beast in this case. I have a sneaking suspicion that this person thought that fame, fortune, riches, or something exclusive and valuable awaited them in the bag ... which is true to some extent, although nothing that would have been diminished by sharing the experience with all the other people present, even if they were going to be the only one to take the items home. I suspect the holder of the Portland items might be a similar sort.

xnbomb,

that's really unfortunate

like you said, you and other people that were there weren't interested in stealing it from her, but just a mere glimpse at the prize would have been nice, seeing as you were there for a while. some people even waited all day at locations just to have it snatched and carried away without a little show and tell.

but that is the nature of the beast.

at least we all got a phone call

my wife and I were going to take a ride out to Kingston after she got out of work but by then it was long gone.

you have to hand it to 42e for doing all these incredibly intricate and neat ideas for scavenger hunts. they can't please everyone. even though it seems as if they are trying.

i've already received two seperate packages in the mail and three phone calls. so everyone gets something. even if it is just a phone call.

was it cool being there at Alley Kat's even though the "winner" wasn't such a good sport?
Smile

maybe an idea would be to encourage everyone waiting for a drop to agree to share the contents, whoever gets it first - before the final bit of info is released. This happens all too often (and actually iirc it's happened more in this game than others, at least more noticeably, imo)

It's hard to tell whether 42 likes the way the drops are happening (attracting loads of people to the locations, where they can share and chat about a common interest, while waiting for 'prized' swag) or whether the way these drops go is not as planned (hording of game content without sharing, contrary to 'community' ethic).. or even if it is what they want given the secretive in-game nature of the content... *shrug*

either way, it seems people are definitely getting upset at the way swag-horders are acting towards fellow players. so maybe, how could community-minded people at the drops help encourage the same kind of ethic for others who happen to be there? a good side-effect would be that less people might blame 42 for the way they implement the drops (a sentiment some have shared).

Personally, if I'd have been following the events from the start of the day, maybe I would have traveled earlier up to North York in preparation for the drop... I was surprised it took as long as it did. *sigh* ah well, at least someone got it Smile didn't expect the swag range to reach beyond US borders; a pleasant surprise =)

I too am a bit disappointed at how some of the item drops are turning out. In past ARGs, this kind of thing resulted in wonderful communities and a spirit of sharing. What's different this time around?

i think it's just that this is getting more attention

so people that were completely oblivious to this sort of thing before are now into it. Thus we have way more people "playing"

Which is a good thing. I'm not complaining by any means.

It just makes it harder for the rest of us to "play"

I think that makes sense.

Unfortunately
I could also be that this has to do with Heath's passing. Ever since then the press has seemed to be more into Batman in general

I don't know, just a thought
