was it cool being there at Alley Kat's even though the "winner" wasn't such a good sport?
Smile

It was indeed cool, in a number of ways. First (and foremost for me), I got to play ... in the sense that I had something fun and interesting to do, outside of my ordinary routine. I had a good reason to drive someplace I would never otherwise go and participate in something that is (or at least should be?) purely about having fun. Also, I met some other people interested in some of the same things, and we got to talk about how great Batman Begins was, and how we hope and imagine The Dark Knight will be excellent too, and how a promotion of this nature is fantastic. And finally, there was the excitement of the moment -- that anticipation that comes with the moment of the dead drop. It was pretty much perfect except for one selfish person, which is something that is not at all within the control of the folks on the other side of the curtain (if you listen closely, you can hear someone whispering "you can't control the players").

maybe an idea would be to encourage everyone waiting for a drop to agree to share the contents, whoever gets it first - before the final bit of info is released. This happens all too often (and actually iirc it's happened more in this game than others, at least more noticeably, imo)

I can state that in this instance, with near absolute certainty, that the person who ended up with the bag would never have agreed to that. I agree that in principle, this is a great idea, but in practice you may run across folks who don't see it that way, and really couldn't care less about you or what you want.

Yeah, but I like to get more into the ARG's and such by producing my own content for players to make it a little more interesting for everyone. I would have much rather got a note or something than and empty locker.

And I agree that this "hoarding" is getting out of hand. Although, it's hard to play by rules that don't exist.

True, but at least it'll give a chance for people to understand why it's nice to play like that, perhaps even convince some people that others aren't going to steal their swag or mug them or anything... and it wouldn't be guaranteed to include everyone, I mean people might not be there, people might 'hide' elsewhere until drop-time, people might pretend to be totally on board... but it wouldn't harm anything by encouraging anyone there to be a 'team player', even coming to acceptance that yeah, likely only one person will end up with the swag.
I dunno, maybe some people already do all that.. It's just a thought in case another drop like this happens again. Obviously it's not a surefire solution to the problem Smile

some A-hole is selling the Portland bag on ebay?!!!??!?!

From what I've gathered it's a Radio Station.

This just breaks all the rules and takes the fun out of it.

Not to mention the ridiculous price they have on it.

Yeah, I was just getting ready to post this. Freaking sucks for the fans in Portland who were hoping for a shot at another Joker phone.

Lame. Lame. Lame.

As a Portlander, these guys a terrible, and the only saving factor here is that they are in need of the money because their horrible, uninteresting, unfunny, show is going off the air.

Hopefully if they do another they will make it like the outside U.S. ones and make it a "Ask" instead of locker style. Make it in different types of places, not the same kind (ex:all bowling alleys). This way everyone is on same playin field. The person handin it out workin for the marketing team like the van, not a manager at a bowiling alley...lol These might help if they have another one.

I've got a pocket recorder! Laughing

I think, for the most part, the phone call and such was the April Fool's part of it. I still think the balls are in play, as to what will be done with them....

???

$30,000??? Shocked Are they freaking kidding?

And to label this a "treasure" hunt is ridiculous as well. Maybe that is the mentality that is happening when the swag is considered so valuable (cell phones and bowling balls).

$30,000??? Shocked I hope no one bids on it. I was sort of hoping for some messages about it to be posted (but they probably reserve the right to edit/delete comments).

I remember the good ole days of teamwork and sharing the bounty. When we got excited over a card or ball of string.

Totally just started playing this today. My first ARG and job for the joker, and I got caught by the police. Oh well, them's the breaks.

All the packages were picked up yesterday - but you can be sure there will be more chances later on down the line - so stick around!

Looking for ARGers

I'm wondering if there are any Dark Knight ARGers in Florida. I'm looking for people to discuss the genre with who are more seasoned than I.
Also, any have any idea when Gordon (or pseudo-Gordon) will be in touch? And how? Looking for speculation lol

Just a word of advice

Oh, P.S.
Dont try and get your non-gamer wife to even begin to grasp the concept of an ARG, it only leads to sadness, confusion, and your wife wondering why you are calling from work, wanting to travel to Miami (which is 3 hours away) all of a sudden, to go to a bowling alley, that is completely insignificant. To a women that sounds like "I wanna meet my girlfriend, but I dont wanna be suspicious so i'm gonna convince you to come and leave you at the hotel room"
