I know...I had the same thought. It means a hundred million times more than a hundred percent of the worlds would collapse, which makes no sense at all.

 		could they have intended to mean decimal places? it's either multiply by 100,000,000 (as per the actual form of the equation), or maybe 8 decimal places, as in 0.000000999 %... maybe they meant 99.999999999% Razz

computers sometimes show extensive decimals in the form 99.9+E10 (to denote 99.9 plus 10 more decimal places), IIRC... similar to that notation maybe?

but with no actual idea of what the number represents, there's no way to guage which is being implied Confused

ETA: Actually I think given the context, the writer did intend to imply 99.999999999%

So I think "99.9x10^8" was intended to imply the same as "99.9+E8"

 		Though the document says that there's no way to determine what the "upper limit" of worlds is, knowing that hitting that limit means that only one in 10 billion survives, sort of indicates that 10 billion is the limit. Otherwise, how would they calculate the percentage?

It may be a translation quirk -- it actually means 9,990,000,000%, which of course can't be right. I'd SPEC that it is intended to mean 99.99999999%, or something like that.

Plain as day, meaning "To 99.9 x 10^8 percent of the human population across the many worlds..."

Maybe the first draft had a percentage and they changed it to an actual number, and then they forgot to take out "procento"?

Have read this thread . The figures make some sense.
99.9x10^8 means 99.9 and 8 more 9 = 99.999999999 %.

This means 0.000000001 % survive. % means dived by 100 which leads to 0.00000000001 * 10^11 = 1
So this would be exactly one world.
