DyeHards for Charity
Yeah, I'm goin' BLUE!

I've been wanting to participate in this charity for awhile, but being in the Reserves has put a kind of damper on it. Now that I'm retired and no longer have to play every weekend, I can now feel free to....

DYE MY HAIR BLUE FOR CHARITY!

The event is called the Stone Dye-hards for Charity and is sponsored by the fine brewmasters of Stone Brewery here in San Diego. It runs from August 10-16th, the dying to occur on the 10th and kept blue for the duration. Yes, I get to go to WORK in LA JOLLA with BLUE FREAKIN' HAIR!

However, the only way this is going to happen is if I can accumulate at least $250 in pledges before August 9th ... whereupon I will dye and post pics of it!

Some answers to questions I'm sure you're thinking of:

Charities? 3 local charities (Palomar Pomerado Health Foundation, The Palomar Family YMCA, and The Boys & Girls Club of San Marcos), but also a nationwide organization called "Looks Like Me" which provides real hair wigs for children who have lost their own due to medical conditions or procedures. For more details see: http://www.stonebrew.com/dyehards/charities.php

Where do I donate? GLAD YOU ASKED! Please visit: http://www.stonedyehards.org/pledges and enter "1052" in the Dye-hard ID box. Please note that donations are in $5 increments - so if you wanted to donate $20, then enter "4" in the Add To Cart box.

If there are any further questions, please contact me at banshee1013SPLATgmail.com and I'll be glad to answer!

Thanks again!
Celina

I went over to the site to make a donation but was put off a bit by having to provide a ton of personal info to register first... why are fields like phonenumber required and why can I only choose between HTML or plain text newsletter and not "no newsletter"?!

Can't say that this is the most effective and accessible way of getting people to donate... from a usability point of view I'd say you'd want something quick and hassle-free.

Is there a quicker way to donate, maybe directly via Paypal or something? If not, I'll go back and fill out the form tomorrow when I'm back home on (hopefully) regular internet instead of mobile (because who wouldn't want to make you dye your hair Razz)

I would, if the use of checks hadn't been abolished here over 10 years ago Razz

(also, I guess that way it may not count in the official tally to reach $500?)

First question - why all the hoops (phone # etc) to jump through to use a credit card? I'm assuming this is so they can make sure "you're you" and to validate the credit card - but that's only an assumption. I guess I'm fairly used to having to enter all that info whenever I buy something online (at least once for every site I buy something from) so I didn't think about it.

Second question - newsletter. That *is* rather annoying, but the "work-around" would be to just let it go and the first one you get, unsubscribe.

Third question - People who would like to pledge an amount but not go through the hassle of signing up on the site. I'm getting more info regarding this - there *is* a pledge form (remember, I don't have to have the money in hand and to Stone Brewery until Sept. 2nd for it to count in the final total) that can be filled out with the amount of your pledge, and I can take checks or PayPal and use that to pay for the pledge. What I'm *not* sure about, and have asked, is how (or if) *those* pledges are tallied into the $250 required to get the Blue 'Do for free instead of paying out of pocket. I should have that answer Monday (if they haven't emailed me back, I'll be calling).

Thanks so much for inquiring, and never you worry - the Blue 'Do is coming Thursday afternoon no matter *how* much I've raised to date - it would just be nice to get it for free Very Happy

Well this may be because it was 4:30 in the morning in Ego and Bagsbee's room when you were telling me about this, but I'm in. I'll donate as soon as you get that more info tomorrow.

OK so talked to the salon and all they require for the free Blue 'Do is the pledge sheet showing I've raised $250... so what I'll do is add everyone who's already donated online to the pledge sheet, and anyone who *wants* to donate can PM me with name, email, and amount of pledge, and I'll add you to the list Smile

Thanks to EVERYONE who has supported me in this, and everyone who has considered. Smile

ETA - It certainly helps to read :p When someone donates online, I get an email saying who and how much - and right on that email it says "Mark down on your pledge sheet!". So, Solved!

Also, please note that these are just "pledges" - I don't actually need to turn the money in until Sept. 2nd Smile

Blue 'Do happens tomorrow!

Hey everyone... just a reminder that I'm heading to the salon tomorrow for the Bluing of the 'do! If you would like to make a pledge, please do so before noon tomorrow so I can make sure I have it on the pledge sheet before I go to the salon.

As stated before, no money is needed now, just a pledge - money is due on Sept 2nd and I can accept checks and PayPal, just PM me for details or questions.

Thanks again for your consideration!

Thanks to everyone who pledged - the Blue 'Do happened yesterday and at no cost to me (other than the almost 4 hours in the salon Very Happy)! Pics can be seen here:

Remember, if you would still like to donate, I'm accepting pledges up until Aug 30 (so I have time to collect them all before the Sept 2nd due date), so PM me for more info, or go to http://www.stonedyehards.org/pledges and enter Dyehard #1052!

Thanks again for all the support!
