Probably. But it is interesting to note that Dharma has experimented on sharks and underwater lifeforms.

I always thought Clover and the smoke monster sounded similar, but that's probably just a coincidence.

Drew Goddard said they 'may be' related so who knows. "Lost" and "Cloverfield" share a lot of similarities; the 108 thing, the fascination with the number 6, Japanese culture, etc.

Plus both revolve around a group of people lost on an island and trying to get off. (Manhattan being the island) Laughing
The 108 thing should be proof enough

It should be. But JJ likes to use a lot of recurring themes to put his own little fingerprint on his projects. Still, the connections between "LOST" and "Cloverfield" are really strong.

long time lurker first time poster
mostly because i have been waiting for this thread to come up
the only thing i have seen on here talking about a connection is a very brief thing about the pearl station which is the one the logo is for

(spec)which also happens to be the part of dharma that deals with experiments and more so ObSeRving as in observe maybe what NYC would do if they released this giant monster....
as someone has already said we can expect to know nothing for a while to come but having watched all of lost so far until april 24 i would find it very hard to believe that jj or damon or matt would just throw something there like this all lost is about is the DETAILS and this is one of the cases...

sorry for the long post have more theories on it but we'll see what this gets

Good post.

The one thing that seems funny to me is how quick Drew was to dismiss Tagruato and TIDOWave, yet he said that there's a possibility of "Cloverfield" and "LOST" being related to one another in some form.

That made me really curious too. I mean, the viral marketing was very interesting for Cloverfield, yet no answers were every TRULY provided; just quick references and screenshots with hints that Tagruato or Slusho! or any of that exists in the Cloverfield universe.

However, I am really excited to see what connection may be in store for LOST and Cloverfield. It is my all time FAVORITE show, and I have several theories about itself. If the Cloverfield universe is one in the same, ooohhhh.,....the connections the connections! I mean, Mr. Paik could be a financial donor to Tagruato, or a main character in the movie could be connected to a Lost character's past... Rock On IT WOULD BE AMAZING!

the only real problem is that with lost and cloverfield we know that they are not going to give us the info we need till they want to and we can just spec till then but i will do that till my hearts content

(spec) when looking at the special features dvd of season 2 they break it down into 3 parts
1. Observation ie pearl aka cloverfield the movie
2.Conditioning "...this will give insight into psychological experiments already going on." now this is for lost but cloverfield 2
3.Conclusion "...you be given futher info and lead to a greater understanding of overall objectives" same as above cloverfield 3

very much spec but this is what this thread is for and i think it would be killer if they used this kinda format for the movies if there is a connection wink wink

If any of the characters in Cloverfield would be connected to a character in Lost, for me it would be Michael at first, cause he lived in New York until the crash and returned to NY after leaving the Island. Also, Charles Widmore could have connections to Tagruato or Hanso.

All this of course, if they are connected.

Hmm. Interesting point about Michael, and I would definitely have to agree. But if this is the case, then knowing when the flashforwards tentatively take place help significantly in determining if the Cloverfield and LOST universes are connected. And on Widmore, with his grimy little greedy hands, I would have no doubt that he would be connected with tagruato!

(spec) I do wonder, however, when Cloverfield was first drafted. I mean, in various intervies Damon and Carlton have said that they from season one knew how Lost would end, how it would be tied together; if thats the case, and if Cloverfield is connected, then wouldn't they have had to known this and therefore planned to incorporate it into their planning? SO if Cloverfield was already being drafted and thought about pre 2004, I might buy it. Otherwise, I am begining to grow weary as to how the two would meet...even though I really want them to! Very Happy

Well, all of the flash forwards take place from 2005 - 2007 to the best of our knowledge. (2005 is right around the corner in the show, and we know from the newspaper Jack was carrying that he hits his downward spiral in 2007) There's been lots of talk about "Cloverfield" taking place in 2009, so they have ample time to tie the two together without contradicting anything they've already done.

We know Ben gets off the island (sorry about the spoiler for those of you who haven't caught up) and there's one theory that he fabricates his past in order to live freely among society. Another theory I've read is that, to the best of the government's knowledge, the Dharma Initiative is still intact and they haven't caught wind about Ben disposing of them, since communication to the island has been blocked.

With all those corpses lying freely allover the island, and since The Others inhabited Dharma's houses on the island, it wouldn't be hard for Ben to steal one of the Dharma member's identities. Since Dharma was funded by the government, and seeing as how Ben looks as if he has a pretty sophisticated job off the island, maybe Ben is carrying his experiments into society. And maybe Clover was one such experiment.

But that's just my hypotheses. The two might not be related whatsoever, but there is a huge opening, considering the time gap, as well as Ben's escape from the island, for Bad Robot to tie the two together rather convincingly.

I can understand the connection that could be made...I just wonder whether or not the producers and creators of the show decided while setting up the outline that Cloverfield would tie in. If not, I just can't seem to wrap my mind around the idea that they would randomly mid-season 3 or 4 decide to connect the two.

If a connection exists, which there very well may be, then they would have had to plan it a LOOOOOOONG time ago. thats just my .02/ Confused

Well, the flash forwards weren't planned from the beginning either, which Carlton Cuse has admitted, so who knows. There are certain ideas, when working on any creative project, that just come to mind as you go along, no matter how dilligantly you've planned everything in advance. I still get the feeling that CloverfieldFiles.com will lend more to the connection if there in fact is one.

Yes Lost is an amazing show.

Yes, Michael would be the most likely of the characters to be connected.

Yes this is a fun conversation to have.

No, they are not connected...and heres why:

JJ Abrhams is a genious. We all know that, its not even up for debate. Matt Revees made his name in this movie, yes thats not argueable. The Movie is a movie. Lost is a prominent television series on cable tv. JJ Abrhams will never allow for this crossover. This would be suicide. The series is over in about a year, about 13 months. That is 12 months to create a movie tying lost and cloverfield all together, and not to mention JJ has other priorities, not to mention a major film, Stra Treck, that he is focusing all of his time on. He would be in charge of creating the tie in.

24 more episodes to go, and that is it. 24 to tie everything together that has occured on the show, the "future"(ill keep it light for those catching up), and now a lost tie in with cloverfield.

Something i see happening very very easily is a single episode in which say HUD appears a flashback, and makes a connection with michael. This is very possible, but this would not be a tie in, it would be a shout out, just as the dharma logo is, a shout out. Many of the cloverfield fans are lost fans, and thats just a little shout out for us.

If for nothing else, think about this in an economic sence. Lost ties in to cloverfield 1(assuming there is a sequel). This happens within a 1.2 year period. The movie is rushed, not 1st POV. Sloppy CGI. Movie flops as most sequels are doomed to do. Lost has to take a MAJOR twist, introduce new characters in 24 episodes, make tie ins, hope people dont get lost, force them to see cloverfield if they want to understand, ratings drop, but not signifcantly.

All in all, a tie in would not produce the max income for this movie as keeping them separate would.

And Edit to add: Its good to see 12 users logged on again, welcome to the new guys and welcome back to everyone else! Smile

I think it actually ends in 2010.

I still somehow see a connection. Not to the series story directly but to the Lost universe. But whether there is or not a connection is up to the writers.

LOST won't end until 2010, because of the contract that was hashed out with ABC. This being said, there will be six seasons, and (excluding this season due to the writers strike), each of the seasons left will air 16 episodes. So counting the 5 left in this season, that is 38 more episodes that will air. I understand where you are coming from (especially the "JJ is a genius part... Very Happy ) but your logic makes no sense. I think that MT_1013 has a point about the flash forwards...I mean, it could happen I suppose, and I would love for it to happen. And with two and a half more seasons...I think it could. I mean, economically it wouldn't be smart if it was rushed and hurried. BUT if they do make a connection, I have full faith that it would be well thought out. I mean, we have enormous amounts of time between seasons now due to the shorter format (like 8-9 months!) so there truly is the time. I just question whether the effort is there...

*Damn, someone beat me to it. lol

Hey, thanks for the welcome!

Goddard is a prominent member of the "LOST" crew, and he's hinted that the two might be connected, as well as denounced the TIDOWave/Tagruato storyline. If the logo had just appeared randomly, I'd definitely see it as just a shout out. But one of the creative forces behind both franchises has completely put down two of the major websites for the film while hinting at the possibility of "LOST" and "Cloverfield" being connected. That to me makes this conversation worth having, and the connection entirely possible.

But I can definitely, definitely understand what you're saying. If anything, more hints of a connection will be given, but never fully developed, as a way of giving fans one possibility for what life off the island might be like. I can't fathom the writers giving us a peaceful, tidy resolution to the series and would leave fans speculating as to what happens in the future of the Oceanic 6 and the Losties that are still stranded on the island. Maybe the events of "Cloverfield" is one of those possibilities. It's a little hard to explain. Work was killing me today, I'm still trying to make sense of things, haha.

Fun conversation though.
