HELP! I am unable to connect to mIRC...

It just comes up with this:

* Connecting to irc.chat-solutions.org (6667)
-
* Unable to connect to server (No Route to Host)
-
* Connect retry #1 69.28.250.199 (6667)
-
* Connect cancelled

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

Might I suggest that we use a secondary IRC network until this problem is corrected? AustNet and OtherSide are pretty stable nets.

(By the way, I have that problem too, interspersed with sections where it gets halfway through the "Hello, welcome to Chat-Solutions, etc." bit and gives me (10053) Software cause connection abort).

Well, from what I've been gathering, you wouldn't have a problem as long as no one wrote "startkeylogger" in a channel you were in.

Since the word "startkeylogger" is on the MOTD of chat-sol, it's triggering Norton into thinking you are hacked. I've read about a work around where you can just disable the spybot checker only on your Norton without disabling the whole firewall. Alternatively, you can go over to the chat-solutions website and post asking them to change the MOTD so that it no longer includes the offensive word. I'm not sure if telling mIRC to skip the MOTD on connect will solve the problem or not.

I had to reboot this morning and ended up with the same problem. Try disabling your firewall temporarily while you log-on. It worked for me.

Edited to add

Well it worked temporarily, I can't maintain the connection. My firewall keeps alerting me to a spybot keylogger intrusion from the chat-solutions server. Anybody have any ideas?

Edit
This message appears on the start page for chat-solutions when you log-on to the irc server:

Quote:
Feb 24 2006] WARNING! Apparently there is new exploit found with IRC users using Norton Antivirus software. A simple term "startkeylogger" can cause Norton to shut the connection to the IRC network. Anyone using Norton is strongly advised to update to fix this vulnerability, or better yet, dump it for a better AV product (http://www.nod32.com)

I added 69.28.250.135 and 69.28.250.199 to my trusted sites in my Norton's intrusion detection software, but I still get disconnected. The only way I can stay connected is to disable intrusion detection and blocker.

What I'd like to know is, have they always used a keylogger? I've used Norton's and mIRC for the last 3 years and until today never had a problem.

Yeah, I get the same error message. Norton has detected an intrusion attempt, blah blah blah, can't connect.

They have removed the word "startkeylogger" on the MOTD and that seems to have solved the problem. Smile

I am now having issues with logging into chat-solutions with mIRC, and even the java applet.

'Cos it's an Ident issue, and I am not sure how to fix it. I've added port 113 to my router's forwarding, I've turned off Windows Firewall, and nada. The attempts to connect time out, and then are refused, once Ident requests get no response.

Here's the story: I have not changed ISPs, but I have changed routers. I used to have Netgear, no problems with IRC. Now I have Linksys.

Anyone have any ideas? I have Ident enabled and everything, and it all worked before I changed routers.

Jetpack

ETA: I clicked around in the settings, and applied them a million times, but it wasn't until I did it the FIFTEENTH time that it worked. I am now IRC enabled. Woot.

What exactly is the problem? Is it just connecting to Chat-Sol or is it any other IRC network? Are you using a standalone program, java, or cgi?

There are a ton of different problems that can occur, each with their own solution. But it's fairly impossible to pin them down without knowing exactly what the issue is.
