Ha ha, my heart skipped when I saw "NEW YORK CITY" ("ooh, artifact hunting tomorrow!")... only to realize the artifact is in SYRACUSE...
If there are no Syracuse players active to retrieve this, I can call up a friend of mine who lives there.
EDIT: OK, see, this is why I stopped trying to track the new pick-up sites on the omphaputer, I always mis-read the output...

No, no. It's definitely in NYC. Go get it! It looks like it's open until 4am.

I stopped by Ear Inn today and scoured the place. Um, I did not find the artifact. The table nearest the entrance did not have any menus around it. There was a bulletin board nailed to the wall by it so I checked under every posted piece. I checked the hanging menu boards (both behind the board itself and on the wall) by the restroom doors; no luck. The waitress kindly rummaged through the menus sitting in hanging boxes by the counter but no artifact.
The nearest "table" near the entrance is a bar so I looked around it but no menu. I even poked around the frames of the menu boards sitting on the windowsill. Suffice to say, the customers sitting at the bar were very amused and even helped out with the "scavenger hunt" as I explained it. (also checked unrelated places just in case, like a bench by the entry with magazine rack/book shelf).
Anyhoo, I'm happy to go back but just want to make sure no one else has picked it up. I'll also make a note on Ariadne's blog to see if anyone else can check out the place, see if I missed anything.

Was there anything there about a German composition? Maybe someone German was writing an essay, or the speakers were playing music by Bach that would have CD covers with the artifact in it?

Do not know if this is possible in english. But in Germany a meal is sometimes called a "composition".

Darn! A valiant effort anyway! Thanks for looking.

ugh, I bet that was frustrating!
The Ear Inn must be a popular spot for dead drops. As some of us know from Eldritch Errors , the Ear Inn has a 2nd floor gallery space. Perhaps that's worth checking? It seems less likely that a "menu" would be up there, but the clue doesn't say *which* 'door,' so it might someplace other than the entrance...

It was taken by Mickey the Sailor :
Quote:
The building that houses the Ear Inn was constructed in 1817, and when the pub on the ground floor opened some time later, it quickly became a favorite spot for seafarers. One known to stick around after closing is Mickey the Sailor, an apparition accused of goosing waitresses. He gets even more amorous with guests brave enough to stay overnight.
"Supposedly women who've lived upstairs above the bar say that the ghost has crawled into bed with them," says Watson. "He's a sailor. Sailors are going to do what they're going to do."
"It's not a tale," says one of the current owners, Martin Sheridan. "It's a fact. Although lately it's been people who notice a little too much of their drink missing. They look around and start accusing their friends."

Aw, darn! But thanks for checking it out. Let's hope Ariadne can give us a push in the right direction.

Good ideas, I did look for anything German-related but nothing stood out. The CD cover is a good thought that I'll follow up on. I'm going to try again tomorrow (I've enlisted a friend to help out), unless someone finds it in the meantime.

Cool, I didn't know about the gallery, thanks for the tidbit! Will ask if we can poke around there tomorrow.
