Perhaps someone could set up a welcoming Guide For Newcomers on a blog. People could be sent there and asked to read a brief summary and Rules Of The Road before registering at the in-game forum. Thoughts?

This game can turn bad right quick. That is another reason why I don't approve of these recruitment methods.

I couldn't agree more.

as someone who lived through the "D&D is Satanic" mess of the 80's, I think think involving a bunch of people who know nothing about ARG's in a game about kidnapping and murdering a girl as part of an experiment is a little scary.

Quoted for truth and GREAT JUSTICE!

As to the thought of creating a blog: The average joe can't be bothered to read the instructions on his new TV set. What makes you think they'd read a blog about a confusing style of "game that we have to act like it's real". I think it's a bad idea.

I don't get why we would contact business and try to "save" the person. It's not real...

Same reason we're even bothering to "keep her alive".

That's the game, to keep her alive. Going outside of the game isn't the same.

And if this were not a game, it would make sense to track down the city and post fliers, tell the police, warn people, etc. But we know this is a game, so calling up businesses in real life and asking about a character doesn't make much sense. I think the only thing you may find out is OOG stuff, if people in the town know about the game being made.

Hopefully once it gets started we will have a better idea of what to work on, and then the IG/OOG lines will be clearer.

The game has already started, in a sense. So people are treating it in a purely TINAG manner, though I would hope not crossing the fine line between TINAG and going too far into OOG.

EDIT: Plus, the Doctor presented it as an option. I don't think it's a really viable option, and I'll be honest I feel that the people that have been working on saving her are wasting their time and effort, but it was an option presented by an character. Ergo it's at least one avenue of investigation.

Honestly what did the PM expect to happen. Putting those pictures out there and then thinking we wouldnt do everything we could think of to figure out everything there is to know about them. Espectially when the only other thing to do at this time is beg people to join the game and then ask them to beg more people to join.

As far as it being a waste of time and effort to work on saving her, well maybe. The thing is there isnt anything else to spend the time and effort on. Its not like we have anything else going on in this game at the moment. Those pictures were just sitting there begging people to work on them.

As far as going too far OOG yeah that could happen easily. Just ask Nighthawk what happens when you get a bunch of ARGers together and don't give them something to do. Wink

Of course until we get an official TINAG Police Department that we could turn the Doc into and have him virtually arrested and beaten, I dont think there is much else we can do to save her.

I think it's awesome that people were able to figure out the location, and that is a fun part of ARGs, solving stuff like that. I definitely am not trying to discourage that. It makes the game more fun and also kinda makes you feel like a detective when you figure it out. I just think it's crossing the line to bug people in that city about it who probably don't understand ARGs. Maybe there will be a drop or meeting in that city in the future, or if it wasn't already planned the Doc better get on the ball and set one up now that it has been solved.

Can someone tell me how we have confirmation that she's in Simcoe? Or at least point me to the page on Hall of Judges where it was determined? I don't want to wade through all of the B.S. over there....

I called Eli's Gun and Archery at 75 Norfolk St, Simcoe, Ont. He confirmed that their door has a stacked A and T in reference to the old name Eli's Guns and Tackle (EGAT)

I agree. I think canvasing a real city to find a fictitious character is a little ridiculous. It's not going to get us anywhere and it's only going to confuse the people in the city.

We don't know what the rules of this game are. Suppose we send someone over to Simcoe and they find her trailer-hitched Honda and "warn" her. Maybe he goes to a backup victim. Maybe he caught on and "kidnapped" her a few days early. We just don't know but I am positive Doc never thought we'd get Simcoe and I love the idea of screwing with his (virtual) plans.

Maybe we get points for what we do e.g. each recruit +1 point. Contributing to finding the girl in Simcoe +5 ponts. etc. and at the end the top 10 pointgetters get a $25 gift certificate to Outback Steakhouse. Point is: WE JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT WE'RE EXPECTED TO DO YET.

All I know is that short of calling the RCMP (and I did think about it for a second), I am playing this as close to ingame as possible and in real-life I would not have stood by thinking it's hopeless. I would have tried to find the location.

The point is that this isn't real life. This is a game. Therefore, any attempts to find her should be kept within the game world. If you send someone out there to find her, they won't. Because she doesn't exist! If they do find her, they'll find an actress who will probably be a little freaked out! I've acted in an ARG and if someone showed up on my doorstep from the game, you can bet I'd be disturbed.

I think the whole point of allowing/encouraging us to locate her and attempt to warn her as an option is because it is impossible... It allows the game to greatly characterize how much control the Doc has in that we cannot stop him, and thus enhances the overall immersion into the game.
