[SKY][META][SPEC] All speculations about how Sky is run
When do you think the game will end? and other speculation

We've started speculating in the main thread about how long the game is running, so I figured we needed this thread--there's more than one post on it.

OK then, my speculation:

I have reason to believe that the shards that we don't know anything about yet are contingencies.

The TSR PMs have no guarantee that we would even be able to secure all of the shards. Some player could pick it up and never be heard from, they could be at geographically inaccesible locations, etc...

It doesn't make logistical and design sense the game would hinge entirely on a "dead drop" that none of the players will ever be able to physically retrieve.

So let's assume that, although we got three, we have no way of getting the other six or seven. So what do they do? Not only put the ones we don't know about in locations where we CAN access them, but include information in them that we would have acquired having found the other shards.

Furthermore, some really wild speculation: I believe we may have enough information in the three drops already, but we simply don't know it. I think that letter, which as far as I can tell is the same in each shard, contains more information than we can tell.

Hewlett Packard Labs Research.

Do you enjoy solving puzzles? Are you happy to help with games
research? In that case you might be interested in a new game by
Licorice Film called "The Sky Remains" (www.theskyremains.com) which
will launch soon. The Sky Remains will combine interactive Alternate
Reality Gaming elements with mscapes (www.mscapers.com) and the thrill of geocaching and treasure hunting.

We are looking for people who are interested in playing "The Sky
Remains" and are willing to be part of a research study to track the
experience of using the community web site and playing games over a
period of a month
. Participants will receive a £50.00 voucher for
their involvement for which they will be required to keep a short log
of their experiences and be interviewed by the researchers.
Participants will also be loaned an iPAQ for a month so that they can
play the mscape games.

If you are interested in helping out and taking part in the research
study then please email skyremainsresearchSPLATgmail.com. We are
interested in people of all age ranges (over 14) preferably living in
the UK.

Well my two cents. This game I believe will probably be over shortly after we find the phrase. The main purpose of this game as i see it was to introduce a central website for geocaching and note keeping that people could use in the future if they wished as a tool. I believe therefore that until we find a few more shards they probably wont release the last few shards coordinates.

If it was me, being a keen geocacher myself (and bearing in mind that I was one of the people who suggested they incorporate geocaching into their next game in the Geist survey) I'd have clues to the remaining shards hidden within existing ones as a multi-cache.

One shard gets you to the initial set of clues, which includes details on how to find another shard close by - and so on. Though I'm thinking they've probably gone for the "delay to play" route as you suggested.

I don't see a cause for alarm... I don't think that "S" is IG.

Really? You think it's another player? I thought maybe it was a kind of replacement for Poliakov.

And I was wondering if it were the woman who kidnapped Wendy, signing on so she could monitor any traffic on the boards.

And then there's the agent who was on the way to get Wendy, the one Pat & Dave were trying to beat to the house. We don't know what happened to him/her, do we? I say we try to engage this S and get some info from them.

I wish we had Poliakov's audio archived. What did she say in that last (or next to last) message, about her position not being secure anymore? Did she say someone else would be helping out for a while??

I actually managed to snag two of the last transmissions from her, but the one where she said she wasn't safe was before those, alas. I didn't realize until late in the game (literally) that the Poliakov transmissions weren't going to be in the archive, or I would have snagged all of them.

The two that I have aren't that helpful. I have one that talks about how she's sending someone who is not a rookie field agent, and the one about how we may be investigating the 6th dimension for the rest of our lives.

I can put them up on the wiki tomorrow, if you like. I just wish I'd managed to snag the USEFUL audio.

That would be great! What did you use to grab the audio?

I have a program called Audio Hijack Pro. It will record just about anything. I paid for the Pro version ($30), best money I ever spent on a program. I make a lot of music mixes for myself, and it ticks me off that I'm limited on how many I can make if I get a song off of the web. I mean, I paid money for the song, so I should be able to make as many backups as I like of it, just as if I paid for the song on a CD. And I've broken more than one CD, and had to make another to replace it.

Audio Hijack will record sound from anywhere on computer. Gotta love that. And I love that it caters to Macintoshes, as so many programs don't. And yes, I'm pretty sure it's also available for PCs.

I'll try to get the audio onto the wiki this weekend, and will edit this message when I've done that.
