[THERMANTIA] Email response

I figured I'd start a new thread for the mysterious Thermantia. I got a response from her today, so people who have been waiting for a puzzle to solve, I think there's one in her email!

Quote:
Hello Tiffany,

Like you, I have been following the recovery of the Lost Ring Codex very closely.

In fact, a friend of mine visited the location of the London artifact. Regretfully the artfact had already been recovered. However, an interesting note was left behind.

Perhaps if you are interested in learning more about Theo and its purposes, you would enjoy the historical information at this website, which I have recently stumbled upon. It is more learned than it would appear at first glance.

http://historyofantiquity.googlepages.com/home

Sincerely yours,

Thermantia

I'm swamped by end-of-the-semester schoolwork, so I won't be able to check out the site too closely. Check it out though! Her email is thermantia1920SPLATgmail.com by the way, and her contact name is 'Thermantia Rington' apparently.

Another interesting thing to note is that she says 'Theo and its purposes.' So Theo is likely the name of an organization or secret society!

I viewed the source of the googlepage link. Inside, you can see the seemingly random single- and double-spacing between words. I copied the text into the bacon encoder/decoder made by weezel. That gave me:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
YOU ARE RIGHT TO DISTRUST THE SIX THEY MUST NOT COMPLETE THEIR TASK CONTACT US AT MEMBERSOFTHEOATGMAIL

(spaces added by me to not break the forums)

I will send this information to Ariadne. It would make sense for momonga and mrjudkins to do so as well.

(ETA: now it's working without the title being in there. odd...)

I've sent a simple message to them. No coding, no wierdness, little text. Just to see what they have to say.

Quote:
A friend of mine told me that you were interested in the Lost Ring.

I've had my doubts about the six. I recently learned of your existance, and I'm interested to hear what you have to say.

Pleased to meet you all, I'm sure,
Dav

I love how she used the olympic text to hide the message.

I think we should probably close our discussion in the other Ariadne thread, since it looks like we've gotten some contact here.

I'm so glad that tool worked out like it should!

Am I the only person (besides the Theo group) that has some suspicions regarding the mission of the six? How do we know that the Codex-writers are the good and Theo are the bad?
Nevertheless I think sending the information to Ariadne is not a bad idea. Even if Theo would be the good part, Ariadne and her six could change side (as long as there amnesia was real and not part of a conspiracy).

Here is my e-mail from Thermie

Here's what she wrote me. I've barely read through it myself, though the tone of the first paragraph makes me laugh.

Hello Jasper.

The story of the origins of your name is interesting. If I were to choose an artist to name myself after, it would be Leonardo Da Vinci. I admire his insight into how the multiverse works, in a time when few ompahloi existed. For example:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/22/Da_Vinci_Vitruve_Luc_Viatour.jpg

Of course, if you are a true student of the Codex, as I have been for years, even before the 2008 games began, then I am surely boring you. For you have no doubt already discerned the connections between Vitruvian man in his lost ring and the theory of athletic synchronization.

Perhaps more to the point. I have been following the 2008 recovery of the Lost Ring Codex very carefully. In fact, a very good friend of mine visited the location of the London artifact. You might call her an ally. Regretfully the artfact had already been recovered. However, my ally informed me that an interesting note was left behind.

Speaking of interesting notes, perhaps you would enjoy the historical information at this website, which I have recently stumbled upon. It is more learned than it would appear at first glance.

Sincerely yours,

Thermantia

Hrm, so "Theo" is a 'her' in this email?? Interesting.

Also, this email contains the same 'artfact' typo as momonga's -- cut and paste or kloo?

That use of the word "ally" made me think of Eli Hunt because he used it:
Quote:
If you were skeptical of the allies' missions to synchronize the multiverse, how would you attack it? What hard questions would you ask? What assumptions could be faulted in our desire to find the lost ring and restore the multiverse olympiad?

The way Theranita uses the word makes me think this good friend of hers is someone we see as one of our allies.

Wouldn't that be Ariadne? Close enough to try for the London artifact and aware of what kind of note and code to expect there?

Looks like confirmation that this is a serious lead! On the Thumos and Chariton missions pages:

Quote:
Know thy enemy - and get inside Theo's mind
Chariton and Thumos, your strengths combined can give us the human insight and courage we need to play with, or against, Theo.

According to The Art of War, by Sun Tzu: "If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not your enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle."

Many of us consider ourselves enemies of Theo -- despite that fact that we don't understand him (them? it?) very well. Our job is to understand the enemy so as to defeat the enemy. Meanwhile perhaps some other sect of us considers ourselves potential allies. Their job is to understand the enemy so as to cooperate with the enemy.

Both roads may be worth taking, at least for part of our journey.

We have few clues to Theo's intentions. However, a friend of MeiHui's named Thermantia has recently reached out to some of us with what seems to be an important clue.

Perhaps if you are interested in learning more about Theo and its purposes, you would enjoy the historical information at this website, which I have recently stumbled upon. It is more learned than it would appear at first glance.

http://historyofantiquity.googlepages.com/home

Is Thermantia a sympathizer with Theo's cause? A friend of Theo? Or even a member of Theo? Perhaps Chariton can help us understand more about Thermantia, while Thumos continues to make its own investigation of Theo...

I wonder what's this found note is about. First I thought the website was from this note, but it seems that thenote and the website are two different "interesting" things.
Perhaps someone who got an reply from Thermantia should write back and try to get more information about this note.
