Considering how much we've seen about Jaime Lascano (Jaime Harlan) and Teddy Hanson, the apparent ties to Tagruato and Slusho's kaitei no mitsu, and the apparent military reaction to the monster by classifying much of what happened with it in NYC, I think there's a fair chance we could see more of the story from the eyes of Jaime and Teddy, and perhaps their friends. It's never really established who Charlie knows beyond apparently Rob and Hud, but he certainly seems like the sort of crazy guy Jaime might hang out with. Keep in mind that Marlena and Jaime lived together, and that Marlena was apparently not planning to stay at the party for long. I get the sense that there was another social subset there, and that perhaps Marlena only 'landed' with Rob, Hud, Jason, and Lily because Lily found her staggering in the street. The last we really see glimpses of the other partygoers is right before they run into the store and MGP makes his first pass down the street. From that point Charlie, Jen, Jaime, and possibly others like Clark (Mystery Asian Guy) had a different experience and were exposed to other information.

Imagine if that other group was trying to find Marlena, and managed to discover what happened to her at the triage. Consider if they managed to somehow cross paths with Teddy, possibly having eluded Tagruato as a stowaway on the tanker, and he knows more. Also think about them making it out of the city and encountering Lily, only to find out what happened to Marlena - and having pieces of the puzzle Lily doesn't.

Somehow I suspect - and in a way hope - that a sequel isn't too expository. A little mystery would keep it fun, and if this is to become a franchise it'll basically be needed.

A note about the military secrecy: Not everything the military makes classified is because it's some premeditated operation of their own. As an outgrowth of an overbearing protectiveness of the citizenry, many in military command like to keep secret things they feel might create fear and panic in the population. They also like to keep secret things they do not yet understand, in deference to potential exploitation of it for any means - even their own. That's the idea behind the early Alien franchise - the best way to deal with the Alien in the military industrial complex ("the company") is to capture it and subdue it - all at once stopping it's unchecked destruction and enabling them to capture it as a tool. MGP's parasites and associated 'infection' seemed to be of greatest concern to the military. Combine all of this with the desire of any military force to appear invincible and in total control and you've got an easy motivation to suppress many truths about the situation. You just have to wonder which of these came into strongest play with the military and why. All we do know is that the situation is still meant to be classified.

Which is why the DARPA symbol pops up and they captured one of the parasites. Our government is trying to capture the ultimate weapon. If it can withstand fire, nukes, all those explosions, then hey, Clover would be the ultimate weapon against oh... North Korea!

Euchre, even though your post is pure speculation, it really gets me pumped up for the sequel. Given all the anticipation and mystery of Tagruato and Teddy Hannsen, he could very well become the hero of the story, and to see everything - his story, along with Jamie's - in the sequel, would be a good option for Matt Reeves to make.

Question is: How would it be done? Matt Reeves wants to keep it original, but without overdoing the same technique as in the first. Unless they really want the sequel to be filmed without the handycam.

Abrams and Reeves repeatedly said they'll do a sequel only if they find an idea that inspires them, so it doesn't look like they planned this as a saga.

If they're lying though, they'll probably ramp up the knowledge we get slowly, since audiences will expect it to be bigger and better with each installment.

Even if they didn't plan it as a saga, there is always that chance that they intended on keeping the viral stuff going just in case - and they may change their minds to have that lead up to another movie.

Our own Godzilla
sorry for using the g-word

In JJ's interview he explains his intentions of filling the void of a US "Godzilla". Godzilla is known for its longstanding saga. I think having multiple movies was his primary intension. This wasn't a bang and run situation. He obviously, as all film makers, was planning on a multiple movie concept. Lets be honest, when pitching a movie idea to Paramount, what sounds better? One innovative movie, or one innovative movie that leads into 3 more? They see $$$$$. I believe Cloverfield was his test. A concept unlike any other of its genre. If it works, he can begin expanding on his original idea. I think he planned, before producing the first, how to tie in the next. As I explained in the original post. I think he introduced the characters in the first movie, with definite intentions of using them in the future. They were given names, although they pretty much went unused.

People in the same situation, in the same place, can be affected differently. Although the characters are in the same city, at the same party, trying to survive the same attack, their stories are probably completely different.

Proably going to have to change it up, I saw noone with a video camera, maybe phones and digital camres that can take up to 30 second videos, only Hud had a video camera that could last that long, so if we see another guy at the same party we'd all be like WTF Where'd he come from!

I don't think they are going to do another obscure POV this time around. Its time to make a normal monster movie, with an exceptional story line. The hand held gave them the ability to do things a grand view wouldn't allow, but now its time to do what they couldn't do with a hand held. I'm sure they will be working with a much larger budget, and the groundwork is all laid out at this point.

Lets get up close and personal with Clova.

You know what I don't get... Invisible Woman, meh, Cloverfield, wow! What author in their right mind would settle for anything less than creating 12 to 13 Cloverfield movies!

As long as cloverfield keeps on going bat**it crazy, and it doesn't jump the shark, they could have a "James Bond" like type franchise on their hands.

I totally agree with Euchre on the reasons for military classification of things. Remember the line in Men In Black. "A person is smart, but people are stupid and panicky". Governments, specially the US, feel that their citizens cant handle the truth about certain things and feel the need to keep some things under wraps to prevent panicing and hoarding of basic neccesities and such. which unfortunately most people probably would. Tho i feel that some of us would be more in a state of awe than flying off the handle in panic
