"The making of cloverfield" video confirms the death of...
maybe, maybe not

please do your rightful duty and trout me if this has been posted before Very Happy

could this "The making of Cloverfield" video possibly confirm the death of rob, beth, and lily?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vT3LdYL3UY&feature=related

listen at 3:09 to 3:11 you hear a guy say
"there were six of them, and they're all dead"

lily, marlena, jason, hud, rob, and beth = 6 characters...

so maybe rob, beth, and lily died afterall?

i do have doubts, since lily posted a comment on the t.i.d.owave site not too long ago...

or maybe the guy was talking about something else other than the characters, like some light bulbs or some batteries... i dont know

This is an old video. We've all seen it before and they might have changed a lot.

As stated before, anyone can post comments on the TIDOWave site. This is no proof that Lily survived (although from events in the film I tend to believe she is). If you'd like, go post there as Hud, Rob, Jason, and Beth.

He could be referring to anything from members of a squad to lightbulbs.

It seems weird for him to refer to all six of the characters saying they're all dead like that as it sound like he's explaining something more specfic to me. The first thing I think of is the part where they group pass stretchers holding dead bodys with the abdomen busted out. Haven't seen it recently enough to remember how many there was, however, but he could have been talking about six of anything.

Sorry, this theory holds water about as well as a coffee filter.

1) The military wouldn't have a clue or a care about Rob's group. They're just another bunch of civilians in the way. Not to mention there were only 4 of them who came in. Jason's fish food and Beth is still doing her best needlepoint impression in her apartment.

2) The scene is in the department store where Marlena pops. At this point, Jason is dead, Beth is unknown, and the other four are alive and well. Again, why would they mention anything about 6.

Myth busted.

I LOVE the Mythbusters!!!

I wonder if they will have a 'Cloverfield' special? Testing various myths about the battery life of video cameras, whether a skyscraper can hold up another skyscraper, and whether a creature from the deep ocean could survive at sea-level, (not to mention surviving thousands of pounds of heavy ordnance). Wink

Video cameras can last that long and longer, it's possible for deep ocean creatures to live above sea level (thus why MGP was "Screaming in pain? :O), and yes, a skyscraper can hold another depending on how it falls. Or if its one huge one falling over to a 10 story building.

But yea, he could be talking about anybody, the marine, even some parasites.

Nevermind that he clearly says "set", not "dead." As in, makeup.
Congratulations. You've found out that all 6 cast members wore makeup.

Here is a fantastic article done by real scientists on extreme animal sizes in the movies (both large and small)

http://fathom.lib.uchicago.edu/2/21701757/

The gist is that merely scaling a monster up isn't enough. There have to be profound anatomical changes to allow the creature to exist, and those changes mean that you can't just have a 30 foot tall gorilla that still looks and acts like a regular gorilla would.

In addition, this article mentions some of the problems deep sea creatures have at the surface.

http://oceanexplorer.noaa.gov/explorations/04deepscope/background/benthictrap/benthictrap.html

Summary: Temperature and light are worse enemies than pressure if you're a cold dark bottom of the ocean dweller.

And the moral of this post...don't think about movie monsters too hard, or you'll lose that suspension of disbelief!

While we're on the topic of movie physics, and more importantly, while I have this flimsy pretext, they've just started selling the camera featured in Cloverfield. Here's the advert:

So all of those flashback scenes...Hudson Platt was sleeping with Beth!
Or was it Rob...

Aha, that's great.

I actually believed it up until the "Saliva-proof up to 100ft". Funny stuff.
