I have tried my best on including everything on it but it is in no way exhaustive. I strongly recommend you read the whole thread or you may fall into a trap of trouting.

Wiki

Thanks, that Wiki is very helpful.

On the
http://maritimedigest.com/prideofoye.html

The following meta tags are odd, as Name should be "keywords"
meta name="" content="pride of oye, maritime digest, slave ship, Joost Roorback, human trafficking, royal navy, south china sea, Indonesia"

But more importantly there is also this line of code hidden in the source

aHR0cDovL3d3dy5nZW9jaXRpZXMuY29tL2lteWVuc3VydWJheWVuQHJvY2tldG1haWwuY29tLw==

Re: Wiki

The meta tag line didn't show up, but here are the keywords used. The odd part is just that the meta tag name field was left blank, when it should be "keywords":
pride of oye, maritime digest, slave ship, Joost Roorback, human trafficking, royal navy, south china sea, Indonesia

I noticed on my RSS feed that someone had questions about IG/OOG and mentioned that parts of my story sounded fishy. The topic's since been removed and I'm not sure who posted it - to wit:

Quote:

Trying to figure out who's real
And who's a 'non-player character' in this story. The trouble is, no-one sounds real. Clearly the people fearing for their lives and talking about working for Surer Risk aren't players, but who is? Even some parts of Addlepated's story don't sound righ...

Anyway, just wanted to assure people that I'm OOG and the reason my story probably sounded weird was because the actual gold wasn't in the cache itself, but there was a card in the cache with an OOG phone number to call and meet someone in Austin to get the gold. Since it's an in-game forum, I didn't want to break the game barrier by posting that. So if you're lurking here, confused poster, that's my story. Smile

I wish I could hang out on IRC, but we're at Disney World and they have blocked IRC access from the hotel for some reason. Rolling Eyes

A response from Replay Studios

This was just posted in the IG forums:

Hi. I'm VJ, from Replay Studios in Hamburg. As you may know we're working on a game about Violette Summer, and as part of that I've been doing a lot of research into Violette's history. I've tried repeatedly to contact the Fan as it's clear that we can help each other a lot, but I've had no reply at all.

As a result I have been working with Dan Corrigan to set up a new website, to act as a clearinghouse and group-hub for exploring the history, mythology and legacy of Violette Summer, who is trying to unearth it today, and who's trying hard to keep it buried. This will be an open-access website: anyone will be able to post, and all information will be shared equally.

Why? Well frankly none of us have any idea what the Fan's agenda is, nor why she's put a comparative n00b in charge of this site (no disrespect, Sleep of Reason), with orders to 'build a research community'. People, you're an information engine but you don't know where you're being driven. The Fan has taken all the help you've been giving, but it's been a one-way street. Who is this person? What's their angle? What side are they on? We have no idea. Neither do you. And that's the problem.

Dan and I have already half-uncovered an explosive story about the reasons behind a major company's recent interest in unearthing the secrets of Violette Summer's last cache. We need to tie up the loose ends and make sure of our information before we go public, but we'll post here as soon as we're ready to launch the new site.

In the meantime, be careful what you reveal about your research... and who you reveal it to.

Ughh ya beat me to it rebel

Hehehe beat me to the punch. So anyone tried to coordinate this with Dan? Or pm SOR? Or does it sound like the PM needs more time to continue the story?

by the way VJ is from streeturchins and can be contacted at vjSPLATrealstreeturchins.com

what was the importance of the streeturchins again?

To me it sounds as if the PMs are not satisfied with the outcome of the VD board. There is a lot of confusion going on and not many people are posting there (well yeah, we are here).

I'm wondering whether "This will be an open-access website: anyone will be able to post, and all information will be shared equally" will mean that this is an OOG forum.

In regards to the IG OOG stuff I spoke with the people who posted them and cleared it up with them. They have since now removed their post since it was OOG in an IG forum =)

Looks like I have a copy of the activities file with me after all, so I'll attach it. I'll be in and out over the next couple days, but I'll see if anyone is in IRC later.

A post on the replay blog:

Quote:
The dark is almost upon us... There will be light soon
I have good news and bad news. Well, two bits of good news. The Velvet Assassin material we showed off at E3 was really well received, people are getting very excited about the game. So that’s great.

And the items that belonged to Violette Summer, that were stolen from the studio back in May? We’ve got some of them back! Unfortunately under the terms of the agreement we have with the collector who supplied them to us we can’t tell you which ones they were, or which ones are still missing, or even what we have. But it’s been a real morale boost for the team, and has reconnected us with the spirit of Violette Summer. And I can confirm they will appear in the game, as high-quality renders based on 3D scans of the items.

The bad news is that with this, and a few other things I can’t go into I wont be able to post on this blog for a while.

I’m really sorry about this, but we are entering a rather chaotic phase of the development cycle, and my time is really required elsewhere...

**edit - Dans website seems to be broken this morning....... 13/08/08

Looks like they may be taking a break, and plan to notify us when they start up again... sad, as I was just getting started

Hmpf. Same here. The Replay people taking a break and now Dan means a real ARG break I guess. Now that I wanted to pick it up again.
