Confirmed break:

Quote:
Thanks Trustiva for translating the Snow White letter. I’m guessing it’s not from or to Snow White. In fact, as others have noted, it seems to be a similar style to the letter that kicked this whole thing off, and I’m guessing it’s between the same two correspondents. We can safely assume that ‘Peter Hayder’ isn’t one of them.

I’m taking a leap here to assume that the letter’s genuine, not a fake to put us ‘children’ off the scent. If I’m right, it sounds like we’ve got a bit of breathing space to work out who #172 is and let him know he’s in danger. More importantly, the next few weeks are probably going to be really quiet.

Because of that, so that people don’t have to check in here every couple of days to see what’s changed, I’ve set up a mailing list Violette'd Dreamers. Sign up and as soon as anything new happens I’ll send out a message and we can get our thinking teeth into it. Until then—well, let’s keep pondering these things in our hearts.

Usual disclaimers: will use the list only for events relating to Violette’s Dream, no advertising, no selling of personal details, etc. etc.

ooh I also got an email that they are running an article in pc gamer lol and wanted to use my pics =)

Timing

This seems to be a really poor time for them to take a break. The fact that there is now real money (gold) involved is sure to draw some press and player interest. I'll freely admit that is what caught my attention. Even if they want to take a break from the actual game they should be ramping up the PR instead of going dark.

Yeah, it's a pitty. But SoR seems to be a little active still. She asked on the IG board:

Quote:
The Fan told me that #172/Z (if it is Z... whoever Z is) hadn't been notified, she'd not been able to contact him. She posted the message trying to lead the mysterious forces of darkness off on a goosechase.

So #172's still out there, and may not know that he's a target.

How can we find him with only a photo to go on?

http://www.violettesdream.com/smf/index.php?topic=29.msg278#msg278

And my thoughts about that are now:

We still have the backside of the photo with jek10814063:00000001_z.jpg on it and HAYDER 15/07/08 JEK10814063.

So we have the name Hayder there? But could Hayder be Z? The guy in the car smiling doesn't look like Hayder...

And where can we look at the jpg-picture? What does the date 15/07/08 stand for? (Did anything of significance happen back then? The newspaper annoucements maybe?)

Edit: Okay, Hayder put the ads in the paper (on the "Spener account"). And the ads told Wheat who to kill. So Hayder communicated with Wheat? Then why is Hayder dead now?

Edit2: Would Z maybe be that man called Matthew White? Anthony Blatchford and James "Jock" Forsythe are talking about him in the sneakers.mp3. White was the guy that outed the "false" Surer employee in France 1998 and later disappeared. The false guy (that had to rescue something in East Europe) was killed in a fight with White. From the letter we have a name: "Set". Sothat Set guy was maybe the one that was killed. Oh, and from the activities sheet we know that something happened in Bayeux, France in 1998.

I mean The Fan is female, you (SoR) are too, Snow White seems to be female as well, and Dan should already have recognized himself by now in that picture. Maybe someone at Replay? Vic being hunted? Wink

There are still some lose ties for us to solve during the break.

Photo sites

I spent some time last night looking at the major photo sharing sites. My guess is that Hayder is the account name, jek10814063 is the album name, and 00000001_z.jpg was the photo name. In theory if we could find this albumn we could see the other photos in it.

The hard part is that each photo site has a different format for accessing the albums. My attempts so far have been fruitless...

When I've purchased images on Shutterfly before they let you key in whatever you want to have printed on the back, or it defaults to the file name. This seems similar but I only recall them having one line, not two.

Edit: Photobucket apparently has an album named hayder, but it is password protected. I tried a few things (wheat, 1944, jek10814063) before it said I had too many invalid attempts and should try again later.
Flickr has a few Hayders, but nothing that looks promising.
Webshots had a hayder, but no updates http://community.webshots.com/user/hayder/
Kodakgallery, Shutterfly, and Imageshack use cryptic variables to access their shared albums.

Edit2: Is the printing on the back MAYDER or HAYDER? looking back in the forum I see it as MAYDER, which makes less sense, but could be a clue.

They first thought it's MAYDER but then corrected themselves...

Oh, and Z could also be Tony Blatchford(sp?). Just because, you know...

Time

What is BST? British Standard Time??

The Twitter was posted at 8:33pm, but it is hard to say what time zone that was, or if they bothered to post their Twitter at the right moment.

If BST is British Standard Time, and I believe there is an 8 hour difference with San Francisco, then this was meant to be 11pm in SF.

According to the previous Twitter "they" should already have the Fan, so either the Fan got away, or is detained and somehow leaving a clue.

Looks like Velvet Assassin will have a demo at PAX this weekend, so hopefully we might see something more here soon. Maybe? Please?

Also, just stumbled across this VA related contest:

META - VA release date slips

As I had suspected, it looks like there is a reason for the delay of game:
Velvet Assassin eyes a 2009 release

Gonna be cold hunting for caches in winter, n'est-ce pas?

I saw a TV ad that was 40s themed, with a woman speaking into an old-fashioned microphone about sneaking into Nazi camps, and I got all excited until I realized it was for some other game. Confused

Forgot to post this when I received it. TexRipley was nice sent a scan of a PC Gamer article from November's UK edition. It recaps the cache finds and mentions several of us. They got a few minor details wrong, but still very cool. Here's hoping that this bodes well for the game to start up again.

Is "clearence" an alternate UK spelling of "clearance"? Shocked
