Isn't the "mystery symbol" just G?

A few people have commented on a "strange" symbol on the star map, isn't it just "G" from the cryptex alphabet? Or is there yet another symbol under discussion? I mean the lower left point of the small triangle at the middle right of the map.

My rankings. Not bad after the whole fiasco at the start, plus I went to sleep after finishing 2, did 3 yesterday morning and finished yesterday evening.
94th
33rd
20th
6th
5th

Thanks again to chulo for all the hard work and Diddy and the rest in IRC. Here's hoping that somebody from here makes top 3. Oh, and my guess for the live event - an Indiana Jones meets Nickelodeon series of physical challenges and puzzles up the side of a scaled down Mayan pyramid. Just a guess. Wink

Wow, quite a few people must have finished chapter three, between you guys and myself. I finally finished the last challenge around 10:30pm PDT. For that final challenge, I was the 135th to finish. It took me quite awhile, because I wanted to do it without any spoilers. The worst one, trying to figure out how to use the stupid star map.

Kudos to Doritos for making this so challenging.

Use tha amulet on the star map. When you find the symbol/letter you want, click the metal ring on the amulet and a shutter will be activated, recording the symbol. As you add symbols/letters to the phrase the inside of the amulet ring will light up. Be sure to spell the words in the correct order.

It very well could be. It's hard to tell in it's "lit up" form. That symbol (G) is hard to copy every time it appears....it's slightly different in each screen. I am assuming it *is* the G for my work. The symbol in question is in the NE section of the map, towards the outer reaches. It connects to an L and an O via the dotted lines.

If I try to type it here, the forum will think I am making HTML tags, so I won't do that. I blew up the Star Map to compare. The "lit up" mystery symbol appears to be a "greater than" and a "less than" symbol overlapping, so the final shape is a "diamond" with arms or legs, and having the "greater than" symbol closed at the end.

One of the reason I mention the number of letters is that we have not yet dealt with one of the "keys" we have decoded. It could be relevant.

Very Happy

I posted this over at Promethius' site....perhaps it will be helpful here, although simply reading the PAGES upon pages of instruction in this forum should have helped already:

STAR MAP WALK THROUGH (pictures below):

1. Use the amulet found in your bag to light up the invisible red symbols found at each star in 6 constellations. These symbols were found at the very start of this quest, when they asked you to type in the name of the secret flavor. They are also found on several "cheat sheet" graphics* people have posted in this forum, one of them being just a page or two back from this post, that will translate these symbols. These symbols represent letters. One letter on each star.

2. The stars are grouped together in constellations....6 of them. You will notice the letters/stars are connected by dotted lines within each of these constellations. Using only letters that connect via these lines, you need to spell out a word--one word for each constellation. It should be noted that "doubling back" on a line to reuse a letter is acceptable, and in fact is done on two of the words, I think. For example, the lower right constellation gives you the word "hidden".....find the H.......follow the dots to the I......over to D.....down to another D......up to E.......over to N. It has been noted in several posts that the "starting" letter on each constellation has a bluish glow or ring around it, and the other letters in that group don't. On my laptop, however, this is not visible, so I cannot personally guarantee it. NOTE: There *will* be letters left over from each constellation. You do not use these.

3. You will note that when you "pass over" one of the symbols/stars, the ring around the lens of the amulet lights up red. When the symbols is centered directly in the lens and the ring lights up, you can take a "picture" of it (no real photo is involved, the amulet simply pretends to be a camera) by mouse clicking the red ring. You will need to take 32 consecutive "pictures" of the individual letters that comprise the six words....in the correct order. After each successful "snapshot", a small, yes VERY TINY red dot appears around the edge of the lens. Each dot represents a correct letter. If they disappear, you did it wrong. Obviously the correct order of the words spells out a sentence.

THE FINAL PUZZLE WALK THROUGH (pictures below):

1. Once you have completed the correct phrase for the Star Map, you will be taken to a door with two combination locks on it. The one on the right hand side is the shape of your amulet, so naturally you get it out of your satchel and place it over the lock, and maybe spin it a bit to get it to fit into the lock. The left hand door has a dial with 5 or so symbols that light up. You twist the center of the dial to get the different symbols to light up, and when they are lit you can change them by using the lever on the bottom of the dial.

2. Return to your satchel and you will notice there has been a map added to it. Pull up that map. You will see a plain version of the Star Map. Roll your cursor over the top left corner of the map...you will notice it curls over. Click and hold your mouse button and drag that corner to the lower right side to flip the map completely over.

3. The backside appears invisible, but once again by using the (never ending supply) amulet in your bag and placing it on the map, you can see dotted lines, pyramids, and a few other nondescript illustrations. The map that is invisible is actually the United States. So pretend you can see it, and roll your amulet around where you think you might find New York....you may see the dotted lines forming the "hook" shape of Cape Cod....that is Massachusetts, so move your amulet down just a bit to find NY**....the points of the amulet should light up in the direction you need to go to find it. You will see a pyramid marking it. Once you roll over NY, click your mouse on the red ring around the lens to capture a "picture" of it.

4. Once you find NY, your amulet gets all crazy with the lights and points south....go down to where you think Florida is and find the pyramid for Tampa. Once again you must take a "picture of it"....the amulet gets all happy with the lights again and points towards Las Vegas....as you roll over you will see arrows that weren't there before pointing the way. When you find the Las Vegas pyramid you will note an arch of 5 symbols.....write them down. There are several pyramids around the Las Vegas area, because the pyramids are denoting major cities....the Vegas one is obvious because of the arch of symbols and lots of arrows indicating you are on the right spot. Click your mouse on the red ring around the lens of your amulet to take the final picture.

5. Close the map, and it will return to the bag. Before you should be the two combination locks again. On the left lock, turn the center dial that has a triangle on it with a dot at the bottom. Together the triangle and dot form an arrow, the dot being the bottom of the arrow. Point the top of the triangle all the way to the left to the first symbol "light". Use the toggle switch at the bottom of the lock to change the symbols in that light. Find the first of the set of 5 symbols you wrote down from the Star Map in your satchel....stop. Turn the dial to the next light, find the next symbol...stop. Repeat this process until all 5 symbols are entered in the same order they appeared on the Star Map. Then go to the right hand door where your amulet is sitting inserted into that lock. It also has a triangle/dot dial, and you twist it until it matches the left door (I *think* both arrow have to be pointed straight up), and VOILA! You have completed the final puzzle.

*GRAPHICS: Due to response, I have edited this post to include the two graphic mentioned....they are at the bottom of this post.

**CLARIFICATION: The reason we know the three cities are Las Vegas, New York, and Tampa is because we deciphered the orange triangle code on the front of the three chip bags in the photo provided by the game. There is a graphic* for this solve about 5 or 6 pages back from this post.

If I have forgotten anything, somebody please correct me. I only did this once, and did not go back and replay it just to write this. I hope you find this info helpful. Good luck!

Sassy

If there's a drop in Memphis at the big triangle building, I'm game to go. I travel past there all the time on my way to go to my boat for work. (Unless, of course, I'm already on my trip, Then, I'm stuck on my boat for a month).

I finished at #194. I thought the star map was the hardest puzzle yet as far as challenge goes, but the sliders were the worst. If I hadn't broken down and looked for the third slider solution I'd still be there, cross-eyed and cackling.

And Chulo -- thank you for the hint. That was the perfect kickstart to let me finish without resorting to a spoiler. I was just so fixated on another possibility in the bottom left that I couldn't see past it.

Memphis ish Pyramid Arena ?

Well I guess I didn't do too badly after all 192 on the bridge. Still deciding whether to bisect the angles of cities or bisect the lines for the exact location. Any comments ??

Crap, those were some hard freakin' puzzles. I think I spent 4 hours on the last slider puzzle. If I made one mistake on puzzle 3, it was always after I had finished 10 or 12 rounds. I tried not to use the forum to get hints or solutions, but who in god's name figured out the words for puzzle 4??

At 5:10:30:30 left to go, here are my stats:
431,422,368,228,213
