Why wasn't Cloverfield also rated PG-13 for language?

Is it not enough or something?

when you can say "shit" on cable, then it's a little bit of a non-issue.

When you are looking at a mpaa(or whatever it is) rating, and the reason for giving the film those ratings, they appear in order of greatest severity to least severity. I guess that the language wasnt a concern for the reviewers. Those old enough to handle the huge monster can handle a few swears i guess...idk though.

A lot of it hinges on the F-word, To get an R Rating you have to say it quite a good number of times, words close to the F-word, like the N-word, etc, apply as well, but shit, bitch, you can say as much as you like, to a degree I assume.

Even in Referencing, I shouldn't have used either word.

I hate that word you used and don't remember seeing it anywhere else on this forum, so I decided to search to see if it was used anywhere else and it has. Congratulations, you are 1 of 3 people who feels the need to use it, even if being explanatory.

No, you dont understand...mpaa decided to not include language for the reasons its pg-13.

And yeah edit your post...its disrespectful and people dont appreciate that word especically. Edit your entire post infact...mods dont like swearing.

Heh, and yet you forgot to edit the quote. Mods don't like pointless, abusive, egregious, gratuitous swearing. - E

Only after 10 or 11pm, though, isn't it?

MPAA is weird. Though, with Cloverfield, I think that the rating focused mainly on the action rather than the language because the action WAS the movie, you know? If it had been filmed "normally" and the characters had been delivering lines in some sort of normal fashion instead of like "in the heat of the moment" it would probably have a different rating.

leave him alone, he wasn't using that word to be derogatory. he was simply stating the word to clarify a point. he wasn't calling anyone that name, he was simply stating it. i'm sure the n-word is probably in webster's by now, so if you're that easily offended, i guess you shouldn't read the dictionary, either.

any person with a degree of respect hates that word, but it's a word that does exist. and it's a reason for a movie to be more maturely rated. therefore, his use of it isn't offensive, it's simply to confirm a reason for a ratings scale. it's the context in which you USE a word like that. i can say that i have an asshole, and it's fine. or, i can call any one of you an asshole, and that's a different story. so let's put our lips down over our bared teeth, y'all.

what two words are the most offensive to mainstream america? the f-word, and the n-word.

oh wait! you forgot to say "cunt". girls think that's the worst. anyone offended by that?

mods don't like you cussing at eachother. or cussing combatively. i've cussed a hundred times on here. it all depends on context.

and cloverfield was only rated PG-13 for "violence, terror, and disturbing images".

language wasn't a factor. i count a couple "shits" and one "douchebag". kids under 13 say worse things than that on a daily basis. and i'm glad "crazy liberal mommies that make all the rules" finally realize that.

In a PG-13 movie you can say the word FUCK one time without having to go to an R rating. So it takes alot for them to have to bump up the rating over some language.

exactly. i seem to remember seeing milla jovovich's tits in the "fifth element", and that was PG-13. it's always context.

like in the movie Be Cool, John Travolta states that as far as the F word goes, you can say it one time and the movie can still be rated PG-13. n then he goes on to say "Fuck this, im done." lol, and the movie was still a pg-13 movie. I thought that was pretty damn clever. N yep, Mila's hooha's were in the fifth element, and it remained PG-13 aswell. Good call.

Sorry >>; I hate that word, but You shan't see me say it ever again, even in reference.

And just like you guys were mentioning, context in the movie happens too, if people were actually cussing At eachother, not in exclamation it might have gotten a language tag.
