One incorrect city on shard 8
Also on alerting geocachers

Russell_k, it looks like the city for shard 8 is not San Francisco--it's actually far south of that, west of Palo Alto and if natas is correct, NW of San Jose.

I love the list.

And in answer to the question about alerting the geocaching community at large, I'm talking to the letterboxers first, because I have a way of contacting only those who live in California, and because the letterboxing community is a great deal smaller, I have some insight on who are some of the trustworthy people to go on this hunt for me. Letterboxers TEND to be a little more conservative lot, though that is just in general--I've unfortunately known some really inconsiderate letterboxers, alas. I will only be giving info to someone I know I can trust.

Aye, I would agree to let the IG peeps get a go first. If we still cannot locate people for the more far flung places then we can open it up.

Good idea, a friend of mine almost came to blows with a "fellow" geocacher who arrived 10 mins late to a cache and threatened to beat him up if he didn't hand over the bug he'd found.

I compare it to waiting for a parking spot, then some A-hole dives into the spot you've been waiting for. GEO-RAGE Evil or Very Mad

it might be worth posting on the www.geocaching.com forums too, you are sure to get some recruits there.

Good idea, though I would say, let the in-game folks get a chance first, those geo-cachers are a voracious lot, and may swoop in and nick the shard.

I didn't say it, but... it wouldn't last 5 minutes!

Could you provide a short synopsis on what the mscape "tree" portion of the game entailed and any pics or whatever and post it on the wiki, I would, but I don't mscape.... Yet.

Depending on how desperate you are to experience the MScape games I read in the MScape forums that you can run the Microsoft Mobile Emulator to experience an emulated mobile device. Then, using the MScape maker, you can simulate a GPS fix letting you play the game?!

Unfortunately, it is pulling the curtain back a bit as the MScape builder exposes the inner guts of the game.

Haven't completely researched this so may be more trouble than it's worth or may not work at all, but it's an option for those without a GPS or PDA.

Good Luck

So, I gather if we take the answer from the Tree portion of the mscape files, and apply it to the legend from http://www.theskyremains.com/FShardsandKeysF.html , we come up with one letter of our answer:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
H

I can't post in the other forum either, as it seems to not want me to be logged in.

At any rate, could someone post over there and ask people to say where they're at? I'm afraid that someone might still be working on puzzle 3, say, but they live in Bristol, and would be much closer to one of the shards. I'd rather they had a chance to get the one locally, and Russell_k and I could, say, go to Cheltenham, which is about the same distance away.

I don't want to steal anyone else's fun. But if we're really the closest, then we should probably see if we can get a couple that are close to one another.

So, how about it? Any of you close?

I'm never close to anything... Hoping one of the unrevealed ones might come my way.

Could you update the wiki, shard 9 is:

SHARD 9| 55.969033 -3.190683‎

+55° 58' 8.52", -3° 11' 26.46"

Just north of Edinburgh.

Actually, I posted in one of the threads, that I took a look at where people are from the memberlist there in the forums. Almost everyone has indicated the city they are in--just a couple of exceptions. Shall I capture that an put it here? I don't think I should include the names, probably, since the information is secure over there but not over here, but I can at least list which locations are covered.
