I'm also guessing that you're supposed to sign that little notebook before you return everything to the site. I still can't find a 20 letter word or phrase. I'm looking still.

EDIT: got the pictures , video , and audio uploaded finally.

good stuff nitefoll! nicely photo documented. The letter talks about satellites and not sure if i read it wrong, but it is saying they were launched in the forties? Sputnik was launched 4th of October, 1957.

Could 'endless paddocks of eternity' be the hint for the 20-letter word or phrase? The only thing that came to mind when I read that was Elysium, but that's hardly twenty letters long.

Edit: Nevermind, that's the description of the place associated with the shard.

Was great fun and big thanks again to Hazel and Jo who put in a special cameo (they leant us a tape player, (thank god would have been awful to get all the way there and not be able to listen to it) and gps unit!) =) Only managed to get the to in Bristol, ran out of time so couldnt make it to the one in gloucester.

Well, it does say on the shards and keys page: "From the original phrases," so the "endless paddocks of eternity" must contain the letter we're looking for. The list says "Original 9 Summerlands ... 18th letter," which I take to mean that the 18th letter of "endless paddocks of eternity" is the 9th letter of our 20-letter final solution. That would make it E.

I feel like we're playing a geocache version of Wheel of Fortune. Laughing

I know someone who lives in Sunnyvale (which is even closer than San Francisco), and his wife has a bunch of buddies in Palo Alto, because she grew up there. I'll update you just as soon as I hear any news from that quarter.

EDIT: And if no one can go for the Los Angeles one, I am going to see if maybe I can take the train down there. It would cost me about $250 in train fare, and then I'd have to find a place to stay, so it may take me into the middle of the summer to be able to get it. But if nobody else can do it, I'll see if I can.

Hi all! I'm getting the photos and videos off of my camera even as we speak. Was going to do it last night, but there was, as usual, an accident on the M25 and by the time I got home, I didn't do much beyond eat dinner, say "hello" to various furry creatures, and crawl into bed.

Russell_k is the best road trip companion ever. He brings cookies.

It was great seeing Agents Hazel and Jo as well! Hilariously, Agent Jo said (paraphrased), "So let me get this straight. You two have never met before today, and you got into a car together and drove down here."

Hee.

By the way, wiki and topic-editing people, could you please put a big note somewhere that says, "If retrieving a shard, bring a tape recorder." It was really really nice of Hazel to lend us hers.

You should have seen us with my phone GPS. It is accurate "within 40 meters." Need I say more?

I've added a topic under the general Wendy Skinery case IG forum called "Shards--necessary equipment"

Here is the text--I thought it was important to include the fact that you need a camera that can capture text. And explain that this is not your normal geocache.

If you are planning on finding a geocache with a shard in it, you will need to bring:

A tape recorder
A camera that can capture images so that text is legible

Remember that unlike normal geocaches, the contents need to remain in the box, and you write your name (or trail name) in the log book.
