Items from Slice
A list of things Slice has led us to.

Mythological Objects by Christolina Minaret:
http://mythologicalobjects.googlepages.com/home
(mseckington)

Mary Jane's diary entry:
Quote:
January 14th
Too too special to say.

January 27th
Long the long time.

June 12th
O Jacomo, O Jacomo.

June 19th
Moon-song.

August 1st
Flying…

November 25th
Hours…

Toby Litt's website with hare-chase leading to more clues:

Toby Litt's My Space, with a scary child drawing:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=88724042

Names and dates from MJ's diary:

Lewis Carroll 27th Jan 1832- 14th Jan 1898 (IngyW)
Nick Drake 19th June 1948 - 25th Nov 1974 (veebee)
MR James 1st Aug 1862 - 12 June 1936 (veebee)

A lot of references to Nick Drake's songs. See his songs here:
http://www.nickdrake.com/albums.html

Slice's missing LJ entry:
Quote:
Turns out that dream fairylands also contain nightmares.

As soon as I got back I found this note in the kitchen. Ma and Pa have gone down there! I wish I had time to say more, but I've got to go back and find them. It's so easy to get lost there, places shift around and change, and you lose track of time.

I haven't called the police. What are they going to say to a wacko american girl with some crazy story about a rabbit hole? And I don't think Jacomo would be a happy bunny if a team of detection dogs came down his burrow.

What really happened to Mary Jane? First mom said it was a car crash, with a strange animal, then she starts telling people it was a plane crash.

It's stupid, I've wished enough times that my parents would disappear forever, and now all I want is them back here, yelling at me about insignificant, normal life problems.

And the photograph of the note her parents left for her :

Character names.

Toby Litt said he was disappointed that:

Quote:
no-one looked closely into the names of all the characters.

So, thoughts then?
Mary Jane: Comic book character, :coughs: Weed :coughs:, A Folk Rock band, Colorado Ski resort, shoe shop, sweeties,

Joey: Baby kangaroo, TV show, (Ramone) singer,

Betty: (Ugly) TV show, comic strip, Betty boop,

Great Summing up Veebee! I'd totally forgotten about MJ's boyfriend & the other LJ people.

There's some mystery about MJ & parents, we don't even know how they died, if they did.

So looking at that family seems like a good angle to start. But if Mary Jane is a Nick Drake song, was that what TL was referencing?

(speaking of which, do you think he'll spy on us here as well as the main thread? Very Happy)

I haven't managed to find all of the characters in ND songs, so I am inclined to think there is another connection we are missing.
I agree the missing family is intriguing...
As for TL spying on this thread, possibly not if we are the only two posting to it! Laughing

And according to TL, we are still wrong with the third person. D@mn!

So the first thing to do seems to be to work out who else has the significant dates. I even wondered if TLcould be connected...before I remembered that he's still alive. Smile

You've been very busy - did you get any other work done today? Wink

Work? Nah!

I too, in a moment of madness, started to look for TL's birthdate, then realised that it couldn't work because he is still alive. I have looked at the dates for all of the original authors, but none match up. I silll say it was Anne Frank, but TL got annoyed that we got it & changed his mind/story! LOL.
The only other person, which I had looked at and even identified as a possible "brother" for Dee, is Kelly. But there is no confirmed date for his death, only speculation amongst other evidence that he could have been alive for at least another 2 years or so affter his supposed death. I can't rule out TL being the "guest" who brought up Kelly's name again after I had already dismissed it.
Could be a Kloo?
Looks like you and me are alone on this thread, suppose we better make it count!

 Box of Fruit

Yeah! We'll solve the mystery of Slice, link it all in with T&I and reveal all on the 'parent' thread while everyone else is stuck! Very Happy

I'm off to bed, I plan on repeating a box of fruit to myself over and over and see what I dream up!

EDIT:No dreams (of fruit anyway) Trying google etc. Wonder if there's a song title, or short story or something I think it may be important because of the way TL wrote it
Quote:
Doesn't anyone have a Box of Fruit?
with the capital B.

I have read about so many fruit and vegetable boxes and Fruit loops!!Bang Head

Trying to think about the characters names too...my head is starting to hurt

And I have been all over the place trying to find the third person, this might actually kill me! R.I.P.
EDIT:

Just going over stuff again
When this struck me:

Slice said
Quote:
The bricks are really weak, pink, crumbly and old. English. I'll wait until my parents are out househunting tomorrow morning, then attack it with the hammer I have just found in the utility room.

Why mention the hammer? It doesn't add anything to the story...

And it is a bit odd that a fictional Hare from the Other World is a real Hare in the real world.
And it was coming into the real world through the bedroom wall, then going back to the Other World through the garden wall. There was moonlight on the wall, and that is something we know a little bit about.

Why?

Does that give us a way out of the Other World that doesn't involve the mirror?

this is interesting:
Quote:
The Celtic warrior Oisin hunted a hare and wounded it in the leg, forcing it to seek refuge in a clump of bushes. When Oisin followed it he found a door leading into the ground and he eventually emerged into a huge hall where he found a beautiful young woman sitting on a throne bleeding from a wound in her leg. The transmigration of the soul is clearly seen in Celtic lore such as this.

I still wanna know how Slice fits into all this, which it clearly does. I will chant the mantra
"who will Slice become" as I go to sleep!
Confused

Ha! I was right!

I thought the third birth-death person you had was Anne Frank.

It is M.R.James, so not sure why you crossed that out on your summing up.

He hadn't seen the new name when I last blog'd him. Phew, glad that's over. Now what the Evil or Very Mad do they have to do with each other, or was it just a little aside?
Hmmmm

Jacomo - He who Supplants.

Friar Jacomo in "The Jew of Malta" by Christopher Marlowe. He is referred to as a caterpillar because he is dressed in woolly black robes that resemble a caterpillar.

Jacomo is also the name of a Paris Perfume house.

That's all I got so far....

EDIT: Claribella - Clear / bright / famous. In music, a soft, sweet stop or a set of open woodpipes in an organ (!)

Lisa/Betty = Elizabeth = God's Promise. Hebrew
Lynn: ruddy complected (red faced) lake, river, waterfall
Ray: Kingly, protecting hands.
Mary: Star of the sea / wished for child / bitterness / rebellion
Jane: The Lord is Gracious.
Joey=Joseph: Jehova increases
Jeremy: The Lord Exalts

Don't think this helps, but you never know....!

EDIT: So, is this thread dying already? Crying or Very sad
