Nintendo Wii Vs. Everything! Games geared only towards Casual Gaming suck, especially at the prices of 40-50 Dollars, for that much I can go to a local shotgun range and fire a box off at clay Pigeons for an hour and that's FUN.

Then go do that then.

Re: Nintendo Wii Vs. Everything! god bless you for getting all the people arguing on the usgx thread a place to fight. god bless you!
also, to the guy (one the usgx thread) who was arguing that the wii is being compared to the ps2...wow, what a dumbass, the ps2 is the best selling system EVER! and quite frankly if you dont like the new casual nintendo, i guess you should have spent more money on the gamecube, seeing as how they "tried" to compete with microsoft and sony, but really got the short end of a very colorful and child oriented stick. and quite frankly i really don't see nintendo going back to their old ways untill the wii stops selling, which, at the current rate puts them at about....2150 so untill then...love it or leave it baby.

Why do that when I can just not do either thing and sit on the internet and do less expensive stuff.
I don't even plan on debating anything in this thread, I just wanted to make a place to point the troll in the USGX thread to.

i think it ends up, like most things, being in terms of personal taste. for instance, i would rather watch some obscure indepent films than ride a rollercoaster, where as my dad and sister would do the opposite.

PS2 As long as we're casting votes, I've gotta go with PS2.
Had the thing chipped earlier this year and even before that it's been the most useful, reliable, fun machine I've ever had.
And with the chip I'm now playing all the old SNES games from an emulator disc. Also, for anyone who plays Guitar Hero, you can mod your own games, in the case of GH I've got 3 or 4 full games of all songs chosen by me.
It's just so goddamn versatile.
Played Wii once or twice. Seems fun, even though I only played that Sports game that comes with it, but it still feels like more of an arcade novelty than a main console.

The Wii is a very fun system but there is not much variety in the games. Most are mini games or nintendo's premiere title (nothing wrong with that) but i would rather stick to my ps3 and play gta4.
my opinion though

I've long been a Sony PlayStation devotee.
I got an original gray PS from a friend as a hand me down when he got his PS2. I only wanted it after playing a few games on the PS with my nephews and my friends. I was quite impressed with the simplicity and quality of the games on it vs the old Atari I'd known as a kid and the subsequent Nintendo systems that I always saw as akward and cheesy. The Atari had the elegance of a simple yet effective joystick and a single mash-the-hell-out-of-it button. All controllers before it had been crappy, and most to follow would be too complex and unwieldy. The Nintendo offerings had been pretty weak, basically not unlike a crane controller and about as elegant and ergonomically satisfying. The quality of the graphics in the Nintendos wasn't too great a step forward either.
When the PlayStation came along, a real milestone was achieved.
The graphics and audio were a vast improvement. The functionality of the system was massively better - a true CD format was a wise move. The fact that they gave you audio CD playback WITH onscreen controls was a really smart bonus. The controller was a truly new, novel, and very functional design despite the added complexity. I wasn't aware of this when it was first released, I'd moved on to wanting to play with cars and guns. I'd long given up on gaming systems, and was just finally getting back into a real involvement with computers.
The Nintendo 64 was almost the right response to the PlayStation. The controller however failed to be a real competitor to the PlayStation's, I think mainly because it couldn't decide if it was a one or two handed design. Essentially, it failed at both. The graphics were a big step forward, but it wasn't enough to keep otherwise on par with the PlayStation. The fact the N64 also still used cartridges wasn't too great - you were still bound to it being a single use device.
So we later have the XBox and GameCube come along to compete with the evolution of the PlayStation 2. They are in many ways mimicking the PS2, but in the case of the XBox it's controller sucks ergonomically and the GameCube yet again fails to deliver extra functionality that users like (no DVD playback at all). The PS2 wins yet again, with the same controller that it had in the previous generation, and only a fairly simple evolution of design and features (better hardware in a completely incremental way, CD to DVD evolution).
Now comes the next round, with the XBox 360, PS3, and Wii. The XBox shrinks it's ridiculous size and gets controllers that are a lot more like the PS2's. Unless I'm mistaken, it also got DVD playback gratis - which had been a really 'duh' move for the original XBox. It's still a low spec limited PC in a fancy box, with a price twice what you'd pay for such a PC if you bought one used. The PS3 in an extremely stupid move tries to be too much like the XBox/XBox 360 and largely becomes yet another PC in a fancy box. At least they dumped the stupid 'boomerang' controller and stuck with the ergonomic winner they've had for a decade. As usual Sony plays the availability game to keep sales brisk, and combined with a too hefty price it becomes a loser to...
The Wii.
Nintendo finally wakes up and gets it right. They make a new controller that although not exactly a complete ergonomic marvel is very novel and encourages novel function in games. They make the design simple and elegant, so that adults don't feel like an idiot for owning one. The thing still doesn't play back DVDs yet, but hey - they gave you an SD card slot. They don't price the thing horribly out of user's reach.
I'm still happy with my PS2, and I personally have no reason to go get a Wii - but I can completely see why it's 'won' this round of the gaming console wars.

I have a 360 and even I have to pick the Wii over it. And I've used a PS3 thanks to one of my friends, and I still pick the Wii.
Now when it comes between my PS2 & the Wii, I can't choose the better yet, for me of course.

I sit in my room and play Suikoden(PSX) on my Custom Firmware PSP...psp is certainly the greatest of all, the versitility is what wins.

Once you hack it you will and there's not a shortage of games for it, there's plenty, Loco Roco, Patapon, Crisis Core, God of War, Daxter, etc.
