I'm French and i'll try to help
So tell if you have urgent needs

Ok, i freshly registered in the lostring community and i'm French. So i'm currently looking at things to be done that will help Lucie (which seems to be quite alone)

As it may take time for me to catch everythings going on, feel free to point me toward any urgent subject that need to be done first.

I'm currently registered under the name Khaos in the community and i like when everything is in one place so please contact me through the lostring community.

(As you can see, i'm not that bad in english too, if you need some cross-translation...)

Khaos,

In addition to translating the codex into French, we are really stuck on the Brest artifact. If you know anyone in Brest, we desperately need someone to drop by the Jabadao Bar in Brest at 5 Rue Massillon.

[cross posted to the Brest thread in Lucie's forum. I see that Khaos has already introduced himself to Lucie's forum, and Lucie has already thanked him in advance for any assistance. GO Khaos! Yay Team!]

Great and welcome on board Smile

Besides the translation of the Codex, the translation of Lucie's blog entries could be helpful, especially the video translations.

Here is a wiki link with all things, that could need some translation:
http://olympics.wikibruce.com/Category:Translation_Needed_French

If you are not used to wiki editing. Just insert the text. Someone else will do the formating if necessary.

Ok, i've done some codex translations on Lucie's forum yesterday so i'm going to put them on the wiki today (and take a look at all the wiki translations needed)

It seems that on some part my french translation and the english one quite disagrees

Are you translating directly from the Esperanto to French? our are you translating from another language (eng.?) to french.. I'd be interested to see where the differences are...

I'm translating directly from esperanto to french and then, when available, i look at the english translation to see where we disagree and who may be right.

For exemple, the word "kunrilato" is generaly translated in english by "coordination" when it feels like it more often means "link" (I switch for one word to the other in my french translation depending on the meaning of the sentence)

My main disagreement was of course about the last part of the Brest chapter ("the first two weeks") but it's now corrected.

Another exemple is the last part of the first page of chapter 21 ("visions") which doesn't mean much in english anyway. My translation would go something like : "They wandered, seemingly for ages, until their last differences disappear and Neopangaea was a single world once again." or "They wandered, seemingly for ages, until so few survivors remained that their differences disappear and Neopangaea was a single world once again."

I try mostly to translate the meaning correctly even if the esperanto words are not exactly translated.

I'm currently thinking about the last page recovered from Brest and the "Ariadne's floor" part.

"tiel se sur la granda planko de Ariadno mem." has been translated in english by "as if upon the large floor of Ariadne herself"

But "tiel" is not an esperanto word about where, it's about how. So my translation goes more like "As Ariadne did on her large floor". Which means that we may not be talking about a floor called Ariadne's floor (which may be the labyrinth of the minotaur) but about a floor Ariadne actually walk upon (a minoan palace, the dia island or the lemnos one, ... she never put a feet in the labyrinth)

It's interesting to see how the language translation works like that. I could certainly see some of the English translation and others being revisited based upon the Esperanto. I know that the other Esperanto translators also had to make some interpretive choices based on sentence structure and intent.
