Can we not disguise the way we look for this photo? Wear a pair of sun glass a hat or something like that? I don't know just some thoughts. I live in the DC area which is so large that its almost impossible for anyone to figure out where I actually live.

I hope we don't lose too many people becuz of this situation.

For those that are unable to participate we will miss you but I know your there supporting us.

Technically speaking, we can ask a complete stranger to pose for us and no one will be any wiser.

I don't mind doing this task, because it will be virtually impossible to track me down halfway across the globe with just a nick name. Plus I have tons of pictures of myself floating around the internet already. Rolling Eyes

Seriously, I link to my MySpace page. If someone wants pictures of me or to find out where I live, it's right there. If I was a nubile 14 year old girl I might take precautions, but I'm not worried.

Were what? Nubile 14 years old girls? Yes, they do exist. And I'm not one of them. If I have one under my care someday, I'll make sure she isn't posting her picture and location everywhere.

I don't think it has to say where it is.....it just has to be reckognizable. How long do we have to do this? And where do we send pic?

(I didn't get an email, because I checked don't send me any when I registered at the commune)

I think what Natas is getting at is that it's somewhat irresponsible of the PMs to come up with a task like this when there may very well be minors participating. I'm not sure if I agree 100%, but if it were my kid instead of me participating, I'd probably tell them not to do this. So maybe he's right.

This statement seems to infer that a 14 year old is responsible for her own precautions online. while...

This statement seems to imply that you support supervision of minors in reference to posting information online. Which side of the fence are you on??

Why does it have to be a fence? Personally, I think that you can supervise the teen and give him/her guidance, but he/she is still responsible for their actions. They still made the choice to put something on the internet somewhere, so it's still their responsibility.

Sorry if that sounds kinda... cold or something. No offense meant to anyone.

So, if a minor posts information that leads to her being put in a compromising situation by an unsavory individual.... that is the minor's fault because he/she should have been more responsible?

I don't think so.

Not really, but they should know what not to post. Especially at 14. They put so many messages out at school that are "don't post this" and "don't do that" that I wouldn't be surprised it some people do it just to rebel.

Let's not start another big flame war over this, guys. Or even just a small argument. Remember, this thread is for task updates-- if you really want to argue, move it to the Timewasters or start a new thread in META somewhere.

I will only say this, based on the conversation that has just occured I have scraped my plan to use my daughter's class in the picture. I can't believe i didn't even think of the potential problems.
