[UPDATE] Ariadne's Blog | World Activity

Ariadne's blog
now has a World Activity section.
You can see recent youtube videos, twitters, flickr pages, and yahoo events, and how they are located on the world map.

(speaking of twitters - there was a twitter saying that Ranger D arrived at the park to meet up with Norika today - no update since then)

What is that thing doing? I feel like a dork, but it makes as much sense to me as Eli Hunt's "weird spinny globe thing."

Its supposed to show activity related to FTLR and around the world.. so if someone posts a training event, it'll be on there with a link to it... youtube video of training? it'll be there... twitter using #lostring hashtag.. it'll be there... that kind of stuff....you can click on the icon on the map mashup or on the right hand side to see the details...

I couldn't make it look where I wanted to look or zoom when I wanted and the little events kept popping up to tell me what happened months ago. Browser issue? I was looking with Firefox.

How does it get information?

Try clicking the "Pause" button in the upper right corner. Then you can browse through the most recent events on the right side at your leisure.

Thing is.. the twitter updates are weird.. I thought it was only grabbing #lostring stuff at first, but there are a few other tweets on there from me recently for other discussions we were having... So I'm not sure where it's grabbing them from.. maybe through one of the characters who's following us/me?

Yeah... I'm with you Weezel - I'm concerned that my non-game tweets are going to get broadcast on there too. Certainly everything I've twittered since the World Activity section went up has appeared, whether it's mentioned lostring or not...

Noticed that Ariadne's Tweets are coming from either New Mexico, or the Mexican border. (Location marked as "Secret.") Wonder if it's a Meta thing, or if she's really there?

She has her location marked as "Secret" in twitter... The application doesn't know where that is, so they put all her twitters at the intersection of Secret Rd, Secret Dr. and Secret W. in Sierra Blanca, TX .

Zoom in, and you can see the roads.

Ariadne is following 64 "friends", and 74 "friends" are following her.
The application appears to take a random sampling of her friends, and then shows their twitters. Sometimes I see Monica, sometimes I see Noriko. Sometimes I see Larissa.
It looks like it also grabs a random time frame. For instance I see several twitters from the 8th and several twitters from the 6th for Noriko, even though she twittered on the 6th, 7th, and 8th.

Yep, the world activity map leads me to wish you a relaxing weekend after a stressful week. . . .

Thanks Jasper, all in all it's been a great weekend. A bit of perspective can help just about anything.

But back to this World Activity Map - does anyone else find the twitter broadcasting unnerving?

Yes. It's a bit unnerving. (and a bit random) You can probably change a setting at twitter to prevent everyday tweets from showing up there, but I don't know that for sure.

I guess they changed it, because there was to many non-FTLR things from twitter. It seems, that now only IG character posts are shown.
