Received same response from HR as the folks who, like me, forgot to specify a position to apply for!

Responded expressing my desire to apply for the Sr. Software QA Engineer position and requested job description details.

I thought I was the only one that had trouble crafting the initial email in these things.
I also got the generic reply to my 1st email. But Anne should have 3 emails from me. I'll just wait for her to work her way down the stack.

i originally sent 2 as well, within minutes of each other, realized i forgot to add the position to the first one..

So i was re-reading the complete trailhead letter on CNET, and was pondering a few things...

1. How does one go from Weapons Physics (?!!) to a start up hologram company?

2. What the hell is an FTE, and why did Gough need 14 of them...?

FTE = Full Time Employee. As for wanting 14 of them, uhh... budget cuts?

14 FTEs = 560 man hours in a work week. Can be divided up among 14 full time (40 hr work weeks) or multiple combinations of full time and part time employees.

Does anyone else find it suspicious that he almost exclusively studied in the computer science field and yet did research in lasers? I worked in the lasers industry for a number of years and I know for a fact that its not really software intensive. I just find it odd that someone with a CS degree would be given a research position that would most likely be awarded to an individual with a physics/optics/ee background. And then to land a gig as a developer for a company even remotely tied to lasers seems a little too convenient to me...

Hi there.

The Executive Chef position requires at least nine years of experience. Erik Andersen admires the work of Alice Waters, Carlo Petrini and other leaders of the Slow Food movement. (This might be the only thing at Holomove that isn't in high gear). Your CV would have to include this kind of experience. You should also be aware that the position frequently requires long hours (both late night and on the weekends).

Just curious...have you send us your resume? I've misplaced a previous email, I
apologize. I haven't seen the top of my desk in weeks.

In the meantime, if you'd like to see what life on the inside is
like, one of our new hires has started a blog (complete with video).

Here's the URL:

http://codewtrn8.blogspot.com/

Again, nice work on the puzzle. You're in good company.

Regards,

Annie Goldstein
Senior Recruiter.

PS. BTW, could you tell me how you solved the puzzle, in a sentence or two? Once upon a time, Google used a puzzle for recruiting, and found that people were sharing answers.

This, in part, is why we have so many recruitment puzzles.

Can't be too careful. All due respect to Google, but we'd never have used just one puzzle. We try and be a little more thoughtful around here.

First of all I'm busted. I didn't personally solve the puzzle... I haven't ever lied when applying for a job, but perhaps now would be a good time to start.

Second... we've got some more names (I can't remember if we had them all before... sorry I'm kinda sick and operating through a cloud of meds).

Third I need to get cracking on my fake Curriculum Vitae. Should I take a chance and say I've worked with one of the leaders in Slow Food (btw what the heck is slow food? I should probably know since I've had over 9 years experience with it Shocked )?

Please help... just a lying, cheating, solution stealing, drugged noob here! Laughing

-Belle

As far as how you solved the riddle. Say that the size fonts embedded in the source code was used as a refrence to find the letters after it, leading to the hidden message. That was how I found it =]

Not sure what you should do about the resume. Best of luck though!

Thanks Darren! I'll make sure to sound insulted that she'd even imply I would use Google to solve their riddle.

Google did hook me up with a nice example of CV Format though! Check it out if you need help on your fake resume Very Happy

Hehe....undercover "spy" in Holomove....

Imagine how awkward that would be if this turned out NOT to be a game, and he was hired for a REAL job Laughing

Honestly, I just read all the posts to catch up on this ARG, and I think the 'Emergen-C' might have just been a way to say 'emergency' and then the company logo on the back, so when we found the site we could connect the two. Sort of saying 'emergency at the holomove company'. I mean, they couldnt just tack the company logo onto the memos or crane without looking tacky, i think. I think the 'Emergen-C' is just there to put the company logo on, as well as let people know its an emergency.
This ARG has a very 'Angels and Demons' (the Da Vinci Code prequel) feel to it, for me, and I dont know why that is :-/ anyone else get feeling here?

Hi Celina,

Thanks for the offer. I guess networking is what this thing is for. Good disclaimer, I was starting to wonder. I actually just started a relationship, and between that and work, I don't think I should be networking with anyone. It all seems innocent enough, but I don't want to do anything to even imply infidelity. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I really like her.

I've moved around too much to grab onto a "home" team. But umm, go Padres!

Nate.

Hmm... so then him and Eliza are an "item". This may be useful to keep in mind...

Well I wasn't planning on emailing back, "Oh nevermind... I just solved the riddle and emailed it to you to see what would happen." hehe

By the way... we've got an interesting blend of fact and fiction going here. I looked into Slow Food, Alice Waters, and Carlo Petrini and they seem to be part of a real life anti fast food movement.

Now I'm thinking this may be an edutainment arg...

Learning is fun!

Oh and I usually prefer to others to refer to me with the pronoun "she".

Or, they realize its a fake and give her a call... most awkward call EVER!

"Well, you see... I thought your company was fake... and part of this 'alternate reality game' I'm playing..."

Anyways, here's mine, short but sweet...
