Is anyone familiar with ASQA and/or "QuantBase"?

Now THAT is particular... hmm. New site, looks like. Now that site is what I call filled out.

Has articles dating back to 2007 but it was only registered in Jan 2008.

QuantBase, as far as I know, is a made up system for this.

The site appears to have gone down in the last 30 minutes or so. Did we crash it? Oops!

They seem to have cropped up recently...

Check out the comments section on this blog entry (January 27, 2008)

The hosting server is having issues, but you can find things in Google cache, such as two .pdf files. Some of the pages* also have login boxes.

Their "Jobs" pages links to other websites with the "ASQA 2008 Quant Award" seal of approval logo.
http://www.quantfinancejobs.com/

Additionally, the asqa.org website links to another site which feels related:
http://www.globalmf.org/

(edit to add) *Those pages requiring a login are entitled:
"Echelon Conference 2008 - Financial Engineering @ ASQA"
and
"Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Lending: Micro-Credit & Micro-Finance Disintermediation in 2008"

I got a login at ASQA, so I can get those PW-protected pages when the site works (only intermittently).

Finally got logged in, and...

Bah.

Just to clarify - while the quantfinancejobs.com site has a ASQA logo on it, and ASQA seems in-game, quantfinancejobs.com itself is NOT in-game, it seems - that site has a history of being real going back to 2005.

Regarding the "IIT_Inventing the Future" site.

Be careful what you do, there. It seems to be a spidered copy of the real IIT.edu site and a lot of the links go to the RL site.

So, unless the entire faculty and student body is in on the game...

ETA: Well, I guess it could be a RL site for the school and not a copy.

Right, I didn't mean to say those were ingame sites. The IIT site is real, had a real seminar last year, and then ASQA came along and posted a comment in their blog. This establishes that ASQA has been active at least since January [meta]and probably wanted to seed a trailhead out in the real world.[/meta]

Same with QuantFinanceJobs, it's a real site, but ASQA has paid to put its own logo in their advertising corner. I haven't researched how long ago that might have been inserted into the site. I did try looking at the other 3 links ASQA has under their Jobs page, but I didn't see any more occurances of the ASQA seal logo.

The ASQA site has been around for longer than a few months, it used to be .edu site but was migrated to .org

Please note that the "public" migration to .org does NOT mean you need to re-register. Accounts have been created for you already (accounts which are already tied to your data sets, which, we assure you, are *safe and sound*). Please login to the old .edu frontend and check your user alerts for your new login credentials to ASQA.org.

I mean, that's what the site says, but it isn't true. ASQA.org is linked from only two sites - highly, highly unlikely for something that is, you know, real. The "migration" is simply a reason for its odd WHOIS origin in game.

Wait, I think I missed something here in my not being able to access the internet yesterday. How did we find this asqa.org?

Random Googling Smile

Also...
In Game, Quantbase appears to be a construct of ASQA.
But, it is also a real product by Siemens Medical Syatems.

Well, if ASQA is IG I guess we can put off any rumor that Microsoft is behind this... site's written in PHP.

Did somebody move a whole bunch of posts from the original holomove thread into their own topics? Or am I just going crazy, because I thought the posts disappeared and spent like 20 minutes looking for them...
