 [SKY][SPEC] Dreamcatcher
How do we use the dreamcatcher?

To quote myself from the Location of the Shards thread:

Quote:
I have a feeling that the 16 point web is going to help us get through to the 6th dimension. One thing I wonder is whether there is anything significant about the number 16?

EDIT: I hope this isn't a trout, but I just realized that there are SIX corners/SIX sides on the web.

EDIT 2: I can't believe it. I keep calling that the 16-point web a dream catcher because it looks like one, and I just realized, it actually IS a dream catcher. It has feathers on it, just like a real dream catcher. So I wonder if we're dealing with Native American legends ultimately. Or if the way you enter into the 6th dimension is somehow through dreams. I've started another spec post about the dreamcatcher in the CF with Potential forum.

Okay, so if our web from the "indexscrap" page really is, as I believe, a dreamcatcher, then how are we supposed to use it? Here are a couple of things that I can point out off of the top of my head.

  1. It is a hexagon, meaning six sides and corners. If we compare the dreamcatcher to the family tree diagram, which also contains hexagons, does that mean that there are 6 people who form this web?

  2. In Native American tradition, a dreamcatcher is hung over the bed to capture nightmares--good dreams make it through the middle, while the bad dreams get caught in the web. (Sometimes a crystal is placed in the middle, and I think the idea is that this will only let good dreams through.

  3. Each point has six lines connecting it to other points.

  4. In each circle of points, there are four sets of four points connected o each other. Note that the first and fourth point in each set is NOT connected to the other groups of four in the circle.

I'm working on a file to give us just the points and lines, so that it is easier to work with. I will include the names of the shards for each point on the outside of the circle for clarity. I will also highlight which lines we know are connected from the two-letter strips which were found on the lid of the shard boxes.

Dreamcatcher diagram
Four different versions

There are two documents. The first one (Shards.pdf) shows the diagram with the numbers, titles and descriptions aligned with the feathers (as the numbers are in the original file), and the other has the numbers, titles and descriptions aligned with the points.

The second document, ShardswLines is the same as the first document, but with the lines connecting the shards which we're pretty sure are supposed to connect judging from the plastic tape with letters on the box lids in yellow, and the one we're not sure of in green. (That is the one where I thought that two of the names ran together.)

If anyone wants the original file, it is in Adobe InDesign and I can get it to you. If you would like me to convert it to an Illustrator file, I can do that. Also, if you just want to have one set of things taken out (like all of the pictures, or all of the feathers), I can easily do that as it just means turning off some layers in the file.

I don't think that that we're supposed to use the shard associations to join things with lines; I think that the shards referenced on the box lids are a clue as to how to translate the letters we get from the clue.

However, obviously, I could be wrong, and lines connecting is a good theory.
