I've been looking at that as well. The first thing I thought of when I saw the 4D was Hex, but no dice. L337 is just a bunch of I's and O's. I'm pretty much tapped out on ideas for the times.

EDIT: I just noticed that there is a gap with only one post within a 2 hour time period. What does this mean??? I have no idea!!! Shocked

i think (or in other words guess) that the 4d is just a reference to time travel like shy had brought up...the minute our boy joins the chat the clock starts rolling backwards....now it may have been just to get the clock to 15 til....then again the homey might be in a time bubble cause of the clock

me personally I cant wrap my head around how we research tomorrow with scratch to go on......

Tomorrow and Winter are both such common terms that even WITH Spindle, that Addle found, it's pretty much a shot in the dark to find some sort of connection that is IG. Using the connection to Hungarian history that Jacks found with Anonymvs hasn't been any help for me either. Considering that the author of that is Magister P, and the author of our email is Magister38, AND the subject line is "Coincidence is a rare occasion" I think it's safe to assume that they are connected... but HOW???

Gesta Hungarorum (Latin for The Deeds of the Hungarians), is a record of early Hungarian history written by the otherwise unknown author Magister P, who is often cited simply as Anonymous. He describes himself only as a "faithful servant of King Bela"; there are more than one King Bela who could be meant. Gesta Hungarorum is preserved in a manuscript from around 1200. It is a mixture of oral tradition, older sources and inventions of the author.

I've managed to dig up a few pics though not sure if they add onto the info above: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11381732@N08/2121501657/in/set-72157603498196117/

Brainstorm

Forgive me for the useless post, I just thought it might help to throw out theory and idea, and see if it sparks something with the rest of you.

Tomorrow is an employee of Winter.
Winter and Tomorrow are both measures of time.
Anonymvs' posts on chat defy time.
Anonymvs OWNS the Doomsday Clock.
Anonymvs is an old man according to both, Tomorrow and himself. (How old?)
Anonymvs says it's "fifteen minutes to Midnight". (The actual Doomsday clock has NEVER been set at 15 minutes to Midnight.)
Anonymvs is also Magister38
Magister P has a statue in Hungary dedicated to him with the title "Anonymvs".
Did I miss anything??? (Oh, if you give a mouse a cookie, he'll RULE THE WORLD!!! Those of you with kids will probably get that one! Laughing )

I found this, the term "midnight" refers to time of distruction.....

Quote:
The Doomsday Clock conveys how close humanity is to catastrophic destruction--the figurative midnight--and monitors the means humankind could use to obliterate itself. First and foremost, these include nuclear weapons, but they also encompass climate-changing technologies and new developments in the life sciences that could inflict irrevocable harm.

Might still be Hex, but jumbled a bit.

If you convert the timestamps Shy posted to a 24-hour clock, the Hex version of that looks slightly more sensible:

Quote:
)S 0E 0E 1H 2E 2R 33 3A 4T 4U 4W 4Y 5 5 4I 04 M E 6 E 0M Ö ù 5'

Oh, and another idea: The timestamps might not be in the format [hours:minutes:seconds]. Considering the 99 and 97 in the timestamps, the format could be [minutes:seconds:milliseconds]. Although, that still doesn't explain the 4D...

ETA: Another idea! The conversation may have to be rearranged based on the timestamps. I'll try doing that now to see if it makes any sense...

ETA2: Okay, the conversation, when ordered chronologically, reads as follows:

Quote:
Winter signed off at 3:34:55 AM.
Winter is offline and will receive your IMs when signing back in.
Anonymvs signed on at 3:35:07 AM.
Anonymvs signed off at 3:35:27 AM.
Anonymvs (0:14:97 PM): No it isn't. It is Fifteen Minutes to Midnight.
Tomorrow (0:14:99 PM): OK this isn't funny anymore viagra man
ATTENTION (0:15:00 PM): Transfer complete: Targets.bmp.
Anonymvs (0:30:4D PM): Yes. I'll be taking this.
Tomorrow (1:00:00 PM): Ha Ha. Can I go now?
Anonymvs (1:11:45 PM): I own it. I need you to stop the ticking.
Tomorrow (1:13:36 PM): Yes. >.> Signing off now.
Anonymvs (1:13:45 PM): You are familiar with the Doomsday Clock?
Tomorrow (2:13:13 PM): What? Until your Viagra kicks in? Sorry Anonymus but I'm not interested.
Anonymvs (3:13:4D PM): I need you Tomorrow. You know how many minutes are left.
Winter (3:29:53 PM): Late, are we?
Tomorrow (3:30:34 PM): Um…hi?
Tomorrow (3:30:45 PM): Sorry I was developing the photos.
Winter (3:30:45 PM): Excuses are for the idiotic. Send them through.
Tomorrow (3:31:48 PM): Are you sure you don't want to send S over here for them? It's kind of risky sending it through the internet. My friend said they leave a signature or a log of some sort.
Winter (3:32:45 PM): Your friend isn't the only one who knows how to use a computer.
Winter (3:32:52 PM): I'll thank you to shut up now.
ATTENTION (3:33:33 PM): Transfer complete: Targets.bmp.
Tomorrow (3:33:41 PM): Sorry.
Anonymvs (3:34:49 PM): Hello Tomorrow.
Winter (3:34:54 PM): For someone questioning my sensibilities, you sure know how to name a file.
Tomorrow (3:34:57 PM): Thanks…I guess. I figured I might as well name it something easy to find.
Tomorrow (3:34:59 PM): And you're gone all ready…prick.
Tomorrow (3:35:02 PM): …I hope he doesn't see that when he logs in.

I don't know that you need to bother with hexadecimal, as previously noted the timestamps get goofy after Anonymvs logs in. You'll also notice that once the Targets.bmp file is obtained, the timestamps act as a timer counting down from 15 minutes, although the seconds are now in hundreths. The only deviation from that is in the server's notice of logoff, which is basically a post as noted by the chat server. Keep in mind that the other timestamps are generated by the chat client - hence why there'd be a difference. This implies that Anonymvs has manipulated Tomorrow's client. That might also explain how the file was obtained, unless Tomorrow was foolish enough to have left it in a DCC shared folder.

Good work, Omega. The other thing to note is that 3:33:33 is a hinge sorta. Everything after reads top to bottom. Everything before reads bottom to top (countdown mode).

Just 'cause I didn't see it anywhere in the thread, so far...
The "Owner" of the clock is a University of Chicago based foundation called, "Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists".
The clock has never actually been set to 11:45, though there are a lot of pop culture references to that time on the clock.

ETA: I keep wondering what those hours:minutes:seconds would look like as hex RGB values in say, a 7x4 grid. Guess I'll play around with that.

hmm, i'm wondering if the mouse/cookie thing is relevant... "Give the mouse a cookie and he'll turn the clock.." maybe we have to move things about?

Edit: The chat server used appears to be AIM, the coloring is right.

I just started following this and I'm not thinking very clearly right now so forgive me if this is way off...

BUT

If you give a mouse a cookie... he's going ask for a glass of milk... I assume you read that book as a kid...

it seems to merely be referring to the idea that if one country has atomic weapon technology then more countries will want atomic technology so they can defend themselves prompting the first country to want more atomic weapons and so on until our constant need for one more thing leads to our own annihilation.

Also reminds me of the book "This Is the Way the World Ends".

I get a small hint of "The Mouse That Roared" in there too.

I find it funny that the chat dialog would seem to be from AIM, because AIM would be a pretty sadly insecure way to share a file - as evidenced by how easily Anonymvs snags it I suppose. However, does AIM use the server's message to show the time a user has logged off? I think AIM uses all time references from the local system.

Well, maybe we can assume Anonymvs messed with the times for some reason.....and ya, it gives server time, which is why the time stamps are semi-alright for that.

Edit: I was never involved in this mouse cookie conspiracy you all speak of! unless it involved a moose and peanut butter...

Just a thought: assuming this is in the hour:minute:second format, doesn't 0:00 refer to midnight and should be AM instead on a 24hr clock?
So maybe it's in minute:second:millisecond?
Or perhaps there are things we need to switch?
ororor... something else?

And perhaps tick tick tock a clue as to how things should be moved?
