I have to say first off I think the viral stuff could have ended on 1-18 just fine and left it at that. We got a back story that fits (ignoring dates) with what happens in the movie. Sure, we didn't get a traditional "end" to Clover's story, but why do we need one? I think it's more fun that we can imagine all the different things that could happen if they choose to continue. It's not like the Sopranos, where we got left with NOTHING and no real hope of any resolution...but that's a different argument.

Since there is still some movement on the viral front with the whole Teddy thing, I'd like to see some sort of chronological tie in as to whether this is still pre-Cloverfield or not. If it's post Cloverfield, then let's get some more world reaction to what happened to NYC at the very least. I'd even be good with a "yeah, we killed the monster" although that's not the way I'd want it to end. The military doesn't have to win every time, darnit. Now, if we're still pre-Cloverfield, then they can do with it as they please. Just give us another nice stopping point like we had before.

dude, we not only didnt get an END, we didnt even really get a beginning. I gotta say that speaking as a die hard Cloverfield fan, i am not satisfied with what they are giving us to gnaw on. I want answers, and i want them freakin yesterday. Everything they are giving us is in deliberately tiny increments so that were drooling and chomping at the bit to find out more. Its all part of their grand scheme to eventually unveil some type of big ass secret in the end. F*CK a Sopranos ending. I dont wanna see Clovey, a Parasite, Ganu Yoshida, and teddy sitting down at a table in a diner smiling at each other, and then a fade to black, i want CLOSURE GOD DAMNIT!

that was the worst ending in television history. I didnt care if the whole family died, i just wanted to know what the hell happened. Same goes here. I dont want it to be left up to us, the viewers and fans. I want JJ to tell us what happened, and what were SUPPOSED to think about an ending to all of this shit. F*ck the "You make your own conclusion" bullshit. I want a Cloverfield 2, i want a REAL backstory, i want freakin answers. I seriously wannum. JJ can be such a C*CK sometimes..

heehee, i'm resisting another mom bashing SO hard on this one....

hell, i'm even resisting it from my own statement! Laughing

i'm with you, man. i want answers. not too soon, and not all at once. i want them to come trickling down (resisting mom joke) one by one, and all piece together. i'm growing weary of all of this "picture here, weird website there" kind'f shit. it's fun as hell to speculate, but it's about time we got some real, concrete info about SOMETHING.

If you don't know what happened, you werent following the series. The cousin of someone Tony had whacked was at the counter earlier in the scene, and had gotten up to use the restroom.* The sudden fade to black was an exact reference to a comment Tony made to someone else on what one sees when you get killed...

Tonys dead, the bombs killed him he got whacked... **

* because thats where mobsters always hide the gun
** Note this is all second hand, as I didnt watch the series or finale, but read reams on it afterwards Smile

Dude, i watched every single episode of the Sopranos from 1st season to last. And an interview with the producers of the series specifically said that its up to you to draw your own conclusion. He said that in no way was he implying that everyone, or even just tony, died, nor is he implying that they lived. It was an ending that was supposed to drop your jaw and say WHAT THE F*CK?! but thats it. No refrences to previous episodes, none of that crap. I'm a DIE_HARD Sopranos fan dude.

I can't stand The Sopranos. I just never really got into it. I am happy that the ending pissed off all the fans, though.

Honestly, I would LIKE to know what happens to Lily, Rob and Beth. But if we don't find out, that's fine as well.

Most prominent for me is what is going on with Alyse right now. Being Teddy's sister, I really thought she would be able to tie the entire story of the ARE together again... I want to know what happened to Teddy. I want to know what happened to Jamie after eating that Slusho. I want to know some of these answers, mostly because it derives conclusions about the universe this story is set in. We wanted to know what happened to humans who ate Sea Bed Nectar, and yet we never saw the full effect it had on Jamie; such things need to be tied up, I believe.

If there is a sequel coming, I wonder if they will keep the same anonymous quality regarding what the parasites and MGP.

I'll guess, and I hate to say this, we'll just have to wait and see.

If they do a sequel that actually gives answers I hope they start from beginning and work all the way up to the end. I was also thinking that the movie taken solely from the monster's perspective would be cool too.

Oh and who else had a dead silent movie theater when the movie ended the first time you saw it?

a movie from the monster's perspective would be 90% unexciting and maybe a few scenes would be great like hud getting eaten, the monster surfacing, the monster swatting their helicopter

when i saw the movie, there was 4 or 5 obnoxious 12 year olds yelling at the very beginning when it would appear that something was wrong with the film reel

LOL the image alone is priceless. Very Happy

I guess the way the Cloverfield story has been told doesn't upset me because as a sometimes writer it's easy for me to "get" the point of view.

In your typical action movie, monster movies included, the story is told from an omnipresent POV. In other words, you can jump from the military action to the scientists to the average joes on the street to tell various parts of the overall narrative. Cloverfield on the other hand was told with a single POV in the movie, that of the average joe (or Hud in this case). Once you commit to that form of storytelling, you have to sacrifice sharing information that the particular character wouldn't know.

So, what's that mean for us and the viral story? Once again, we have a restriction on the POV. This time, -WE- are the single point of view. The information we get is what we can glean from the various websites and such. Unless someone like Teddy or Whistle Blower leaks out information, or we're given the opportunity to "hack" puzzles for it, we just don't know. It's obvious by now we're not supposed to know...they're keeping those cards close to their chest for a possible sequel.

Finally, the primary story of Cloverfield isn't about the monster. It was about the people involved. The viral marketing gave us a run up to the attack we wouldn't have received before. In my mind that run up ended on 1-18 when the movie came out. If they want to continue the online story effectively, they're going to have to move past the events of the movie and show us some of those cards. Otherwise, to me, the ending came and went with NYC.

as far as the movie, i loved it...i'll watch it again and again as the mood hits me. I'm fine with the lack of real answers you would get out of a standard hollywood monster movie. with the online viral campaign, they coulda just stopped at the picture of dead whales on the 1-18-08 site and the audio teaser at the end of the movie to keep us baited and waiting for another viral to start up for the sequel, but they gave us more. more questions not just involving Teddy, but now his sister and a possible CIA agent, a sword symbol, some manga that may or may not tie in with anything, a strange number on a missing teddy poster and at least 10 different numbers on the various versions of the DVD. if this is over, it seems like a bad way to end things. is it possible to have an arg that never ends?
