I've found it to be more stable, with a few extra features than Twitter.
Picture posting and location features are the most obvious. Me likey.

BrianEnigma's another of "us" using it so far, too.

 		So uh, it's some WAP MySpace sort of thing, a little Twitter-ish, that is supposed to enable to you interact with people physically near you...

Or you can just say "Hello" to the person standing beside you.

There are quite a few folks around here who are on Twitter, which Brightkite interfaces with. Twitter's been so flaky lately that it's almost more annoying to try to use it than it is to quit it.
