About trying to hack into mlo's k-7 voicemail: When you get to the "Please enter your security code" message and not enter anything, it only takes about 3 seconds before you get a "your security code is invalid" message. You get 5 'attempts' before it hangs up but the whole thing feels suspiciously like a recorded message that totally ignores anything you type in.

Does anyone think that Marcus is connected to the <aurelius>64 character in the irc2 chat?

Would the mention of 64's hair be significant as well as heat?

Never mind I guess. I just saw that the irc thread was locked and I guess presumed bogus.

have patience I just joined on 9OCT03 and am still climbing the learning curve on all of this. (I rarely go into forums and have never used IRC Embarassed )

Should of known that it was too good to be true.

Regarding all the stuff about Marcus maybe being quite clumsy around computers and needing help from relatives coming up with his password and all, it just hit me the man is head (?) of Research & Development of the world's largest software company, he can't be THAT clumsy, now can he?

I have the same feeling, the MLO password has been bugging me for days and I really want it out of the way... I'm thinking it would really give us a sizeable share of background information on the story. I have also thought for a while that that is the reason the login might just not be activated yet, but I do not really believe that, because of the added Beatles hint...

Ok, there has been a lengthy discussion on the MLO subject on IRC, which I'm trying to recap with this post, because I think there is some point to it.

Regarding MLO's password, there are two possible situations:

a) Before the "Beatles"-clue was added, we were not supposed to guess the password, which is why the clue was added later

b) We were supposed to guess the password from the start, and because it took us a while, the Beatles-clue was added later

In case of a), I wonder why the bio page was online and accessible in the first place. If we weren't supposed to log in, it would be a bit cruel to let us guess thousands of passwords when we didn't have complete info anyway, so I dismiss this possibility for the time being. Following that, it rules The Beatles out as being a clue, because we would have been able to guess the clue WITHOUT the Beatles being mentioned!

Then, in case of b), there are three new options:

1) The password is only related to Huxley/Brave New World

2) The password is related to Huxley/Brave New World + the DOB

3) The password is only related to MLO's date of birth

1 would be logical, because we got Phillip's password from his quote too, but it makes no sense, because the Beatles-clue doesn't point out anything in that direction. I tend to dismiss this possibility too.

That leaves us with 2) and 3).

Of these, I now feel strongly towards the latter, because the Beatles-clue kinda emphasizes the fact that the DOB is important, almost saying "forget about Huxley, look at the DOB for clues!".

Having said the above, I'm still not sure what we are overlooking, everything related to the DOB has been tried AFAIK... but this line of reasoning excludes a lot of possibilities and possibly narrows down the search... IF it's the correct line Rolling Eyes

agreed. Since he turned 64 on his last birthday then the Beatles reference prolly just points us right back at his birthday, rather than a possible Beatles-based password. IMHO

or it could simply be the numbers in some whacky order. I've tried everything I can think of, but I've been up for over 24 hours so I'm running on about 4MB RAM and 20 cups of coffee.

Just some random thoughts; hopefully, they will spark further discussion:

1939 was the year WWII started. I wonder if there is some connection betwee this fact and Brave New World and the Beatles being advocates of peace. Perhaps a philosopher (e.g., Neitzche) could complete the clue?

Or something that happened on april 22, 2003. A Google search doesn't really give me nice, clean headlines from that day...

It could indeed also be just the notation, or a part of his DOB... I also trtied stuff along the line of 'april03' and 'april22' etc.

The day before his 64th birthday Metacortechs posted that their search for a new CEO was ongoing.

I posted this in IRC but no one grabbed a hold of it, so I'll put it here too.

In 1939 Huxley released a book called: "After Many A Summer Dies The Swan"

"The story of an unscrupulous and self-indulgent Hollywood tycoon who launches a search for the man who has discovered immortality"

http://public.clunet.edu/engdept/ad/summer.html

Don't know if there is anything to it but there it is.
