Ok. going out on a limb with 15....
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Marcus Aurelius. He was considered to be the last of the 5 good emperors, he got to a point where he didn't want to use violence, I dunno, the fact that I feel the globe represents the Roman Empire...?

well it's way more than I've got, but I'm not sure. Does he tie in with any of the clue? The other answers all relate to the book, what we need to find, or the historical story, which is all around King John's time so about a thousand years later.
The grammar of the phrase bothers me, which is why I think it could be an anagram, but with that many letters...
...or it's just a clue with bad king = king john but I can't make sense of the rest.
EDIT: New post on Rachel's blog. Not sure of any relevance.

Darn it I knew I was missing something obvious with 9. But 8 was hard to crack, hard! Still haven't got 4.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I am pretty sure the globe doesn't represent the Roman Empire - first because you can see the shape of all Africa and second because you can see the outline of South America's east coast. That would make Marcus Aurelius a red herring.

Yeah, having looked at everything again, I think I was a bit wrong!
However, looking at the way 15 is phrased, it reminds me of the way
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Nostradamus predictions are phrased.
I'm not too sure about an anagram, but then, I'm very often not sure about stuff!

Another hint for #4
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
the key word isn't a word it's a phrase

I'm looking into this eventhough there is the fee. I love Divinci Code-like puzzles that keep me thinking for days. It keeps me on my toes during the summer.
Could someone give me an example of one of the hard codes from the actual book. I just want to know the skill level as I'm a little rusty.
Question about a mistake:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
EDIT: I just found a mistake in code one on the lined_paper. It should read t u v instead of t v u.
Who do I contact for mistakes in puzzles?
Nevermind found another, it's just the way the puzzle is.

I'm not sure I should give an actual example out, but in terms of the types of puzzles in the book there's a fair range, from some simple sub, some puzzles around or in pictures, and a recurrng code that appears a lot (although I haven't done anything to try and crack it yet).
I've solved a few puzzles in the book, but I think overall they're a little harder than in the lined paper. On the other hand I haven't had a proper look at them yet, so they may be OK.

Getting there Got all the study except 7 and 15.
Solving 4 was certainly helped by having access to the Journal.
But the shields are a stumper...

I've been distracted by Bolsid, but still got nowhere with those ones either...

Game is Free now Since there was a fee for the game, I didn't continue with it. Just received an e-mail though, and it seems that it is now going to be free:
"After three weeks and 4,000 unique visitors from 64 countries we have heard and listened to the resounding cry that the game is too expensive.
Rather than calling it a day we are going to make the game free for everyone by creating a new e-version of the journal to be launched very, very soon.
You will now be able to download the journal and have access to the answers form. A limited print edition of the journal will still be available to buy online but there are only a few of these left. As the game is free we are going to have to reduce the reward to £1,000.
Obviously this is a major change for all the people involved but we are determined to bring future stories about the Professor to the world and this is the best way we have found to do that.
We're hope you'll now try and crack the mystery in its new format. Or let us know if you wish to un-register
We'll let you know when the new format is available.
The team at TPJ"

In a way its a shame The journal was certainly well produced and its nice to have a hard copy. I never fully understood their business model to begin with.
Now, returning to the puzzles, the Journal itself has got some corkers in it.
There are a whole series of symbols on different pages at the back. The only thing I have noticed about them is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
That they look like sections of the symbols that are to be found in the letter from the Professor that accompanies the Journal
I have also noticed that the puzzle on page 181
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Warning - the next spoiler doesnt tell you the answer but makes it pretty clear what kind of puzzle it is
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Probably has an error in it - not in the ciphertext but in the keyword used to decrypt
Other than that I am battling away - only 45% solved though

Great to find some others working on this. I found a phrase in the journal
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
ASITW
which fits the Meph1stophel1an Obstruct1on but cannot make it work as a key. Was surprised that the journal would be required to solve a free puzzle springb? I can offer a clue for number 7 in exchange.

You don't need anything in the book to solve #4. It just took me a little lateral thinking, pretty much all the clues you need are in this thread, you just need to put them together right...
.. here's another one:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Three's the magic number
Wouldn't mind a clue for #7 though...

After a number of attempts I found the two identical three letter words are not the answer!

well that gives me three letters...I guess this is down to just trial and error then? or was there some logic to it?
