Moving to San Francisco - and beyond assuming immigration are happy :) I've recently accepted a job in San Francisco and my fiancee and I will be moving over at some point later this year, in 2009 the job then moves on to Boston.
By the time we arrive we will have sold/given away all our possessions, be exhausted and scared (I hate planes and spend most attempting to grip the seat with my buttocks and keeping it in the air with my furrowed brow) and in need of a cup of tea (do you guys have PG Tips, Twinings or Yorkshire? *adds tea to list of things to pack*).
More than that we'll be in need of fun. What can you recommend that's fun to do in SF or Boston (for later on) for someone who likes ARGy things and silliness and someone who likes the other someone to leave the computer occasionally and join the RG (and silliness too)?

Nooo! The UK will be less of a place without you
Anyway, I have no clue about SF or Boston, apart from SF0 , which I assume you already knew about. Good luck in the new job!

although i'm not English i do have a great love of English tea - specifically yorkshire gold - so i have found my way to all the shops who sell it here on the west coast. i spend quite a bit of time in san francisco and one place to find great tea there is called lovejoys. here's a link for future ref. www.lovejoystearoom.com
and if you make it down to los angeles we have a great place called the tudor house. the ladies who own this place are hilarious and they have a great selection of teas (and shortbread too). they also have a tea room across the street from the shop. http://www.thetudorhouse.com/
you will love san francisco! it is a wonderful city. best of luck with your move!

OMG Scouse Attack aka The British are Coming Not only do we get PG Tips here, we have a wonderful tea house where you can get the most amazing orange pekoe you've ever tasted, along with any other varietal you can imagine.
I'll take you there if you promise to quote Lister's lines from Red Dwarf to me.

My local grocery store carries Twinings, so that's easy, and Tetley "British Blend" in round tea bags (but I would need a native to tell me if it is authentic or just something they fool the yanks with). Welcome to Northern California,
mate

Hey, not sure if it's still there, but there was a pretty epic task in SFZero that got you a big stash of points...and the task was to "Move to San Fransico"
So you got that going for you.
Have fun, good luck, and all that!

Once you get here, if you're in need of a bit of home flavors you can check out these places:
http://britshoppe.com/
http://www.yousaytomato.biz/
I haven't been to the former, but I have been to the latter, and always find good stuff there (though I'm not British so I'm easy).
As far as things to do, once you get here and get settled, I would recommend just asking co-workers for recommendations. You'll also inevitably end up meeting folks in bars and restaurants and they'll have plenty of suggestions as well.
I think you'll also find that this is a surprisingly compact city. Once I got a feeling for the lay of the land, I would regularly pick a part of the city I wanted to check out and go (admittedly, there are some parts of the city you really won't want to go to).

Thanks fellas
As ever, you're excellent. Lexy, the UK will be a less hairy place without me , but thank you for the sentiment!
Labfly, Catherwood, Gupfee, hooray! Tea everywhere. The round bags are authentic, but have you also come across the exciting innovation that is the Pyramid Bag?
Sir Quady, I've been investigating SF0. It has to be done!
Boozemonkey, that might sort my other half's marmite cravings.
And sadly, I'm only half scouse, and will be a disappointing Lister. My accent is more like Kryten with a hint of Hagrid when inebriated. So I could do a passable "I should not have said that".

I reccomend seeing the Jelly Belly factory if you have extra time... Kidish, but when I went, everyone liked it. We had people from the age of 9/10 to adults that were in their 40's/50's. It may take a while, though, so maybe on a weekend, or an off day. There used to be a great laser tag place, but my cousin said they closed... Besides that, I don't really know. Last time I went was family reunion kinda thing forever ago. But hope that this helps a bit

Jelly Belly is in Fairfield (I-80 east towards Sacramento) just past Hwy 12 exit to Napa.
Speaking of Napa - you are going to be close to some of the best wine & champagne in the US! I miss my biannual trips out there.

And may I just take this opportunity to steer you away from Ghirardelli chocolate? Instead, go across the bay to Berkeley and the Scharffen Berger factory. Take the tour, get educated on what real chocolate is all about, and you'll never go back to that commercial place in the square again. (Call me, I'll meet you in their restaurant for sunday brunch)

Serious? I was asleep in the car... so Nvm on the JB thing but basic sight seeing stuff is always fun if it's your first time.

Yes. Avoid the trap that is Ghirardelli. Scharffen Berger is the best.
Also, be sure to peek in at the Palace of Fine Arts/Exploratorium. A wonderful place that stands up to repeated visits.
