[Chat] Kai - James to train in SF? + omphaputer

I was chatting with Kai on Facebook today. When I mentioned that San Francisco is going to do their city labyrinth tomorrow, he asked,

Quote:
do you know if they have another labyrinth training coming up? James said he might be interested in going to one if it fits his schedule

We checked upcoming, but nothing was posted...but you might want to get something going!

Other things we talked about:

TheO's motivation:

Quote:

Me:
I think the one thing that bothers me most about TheO's approach of sacrificing our world is that most of the planet's population isn't being consulted Razz. It may be a selfless decision for TheO, but it is not a choice at all for so many others.

Kai:
a fair point

I don't much like decisions being made for me either

but then again what about the universe which is created when we succeed? that universe doesn't succeed either (I've been debating this with James recently)

and that universe didn't have a choice either!

<snip>

James' point is that there's certainly an ethical/moral piece to things... personally I try and stay out of it.. I was better at programming than philosophy in college

Springboarding off that, I made the omphaputer the next topic:

Quote:

Me:
speaking of programming, I wonder if there will be any changes in the omphaputer now that we have found all 27 codex artifacts!

We do still have to figure out how to properly use the MAKE OMPH KNOT command, for one thing.

Kai:
I know, that Omphaputer thing is so strange, I'm sure we haven't gotten everything out of it yet

frankly that MAKE OMPH KNOT command kinda freaks me out

Me:

me too

I keep reminding myself it doesn't necessarily show the world blowing up...but yeah.

Kai:
I certainly don't feel like swirling into a white abyss

Joy:
heh, yeah...at least it's not a dark and scary abyss I guess Wink

Kai:
I suppose so

have we found any new commands since that one?

Joy:
hmm. Do you know about OMPH STRENGTH ? It just said "Pending" last I heard

and there is BAETYLUSDILOO/OMPHALABYRINTH

that is the one that gave us the formula for figuring out the omph strength

Kai:
well the OMPH strength probably won't start to go up until you do your labyrinth, right?

Me:
I would think so.

Kai:
hopefully it works!

Me:
I wonder how long it will take to register SF's run tomorrow?

Kai:
I don't know

should be interesting to see

Joy:
It may only respond when it gets the GPS data, or maybe it has to take some time to process that

Kai:
yeah, maybe

Joy:
My main curiosity is who set up the 'puter in the first place...it seems pretty high-tech for it to have been designed by those who wrote the Codex, and James claims TheO only found out about it this year, too.

And then...my computer crashed. I jumped back on and apologized, but I didn't keep pestering him, and he had to go soon afterwards anyway.

I wonder if he was hinting there are more commands to discover, or was the character just showing further interest in the omphaputer?

well I haven't seen it posted anywhere yet, but this afternoon spinnerin found a new omphaputer command:

TRAINING

The command seems to want a parameter, but I haven't found anything that works.

I am thinking that we will be able to see the training results from other worlds through the the omphaputer once the omph knots start kicking in. We don't have any other tool for multiversal communication, yet sophrosune and sophia are supposed to "Figure out the competition! How fast do we have to get?"

maybe TRAINING command comes into that mission.

Well this is something I'm confused about...

How is the omphaputer going to know that omphalabyrinths have been created? The assumption seems to be that something magical will happen with the GPS coordinates or something...

It somehow knew the length of the fingers of the amnesiacs. And knows when we've recovered an artifact.

Oh, and due to popular demand, or rather the extreme lack thereof, we've given up on the training exercises until further notice.

Ooo! Interesting, I'll have to make sure to tell Kai. The parameter thing is weird, though...if you just type TRAINING, it says "Training: Input Parameter", but if you try to give it a parameter, it says, "too many parameters, max 0 allowed".

As for the length of the fingers of the amnesiacs...my spec there is that the computer can communicate cross-world, and that those who sent the amnesiacs programmed their biostats into the computer.

It knows when we've recovered an artifact because we enter the "proof of recovery" code into it once we have done so...that is no magic.

Sorry to hear about the training runs being cancelled Sad. I forgot about the synch trial not turning out. I'll pass that news on to Kai as well.

Well, like dreamerblue points out, it knows when we've recovered an artifact because we enter the pruvo code.

And we (or the agonothetai) had to initially enter their biostats in order to activate that part.

So it seems to need things actually being *entered*. Hence my question about how/what we're supposed to enter for these omphalabyrinthoi

Oh no! What we need is more people. I mean, we've got the usual 6 or 7, plus Momonga's friend, but we really need 3 or 4 more people. Now how does one get people to come?...

I've got a few friends that have been wanting to help, but have never been able to. Our biggest problem is that we have so few people that we can't really do a run unless EVERYONE can come, and then only barely.

I think that's why the Codex says "we chose places where sport, playing, festivals and other special events often take place." You almost have to practice when a festival is taking place too, and draw in support from the crowd if you want to achieve a world beater time in the event.
