Providence Turing? Wondering if it isn't an AI with a little hint about it Here?
Good point Amandel.
The only thing that was making me wonder was the whole fact they were actually doing things like "Going to the mall" "Getting a guys phone number" "moving into her own apartment" etc. - Doesn't seem like something an A.I would do that's all lol
Those could be thoughts instilled to give the A.I. more human characteristics, and as such pass the Turing test more easily. Some have suggested a way to make the Turing Test easier to pass is to give computers a sort of regressive memory, so that when asked "what did you do yesterday?" they know better than to answer "nothing because I can't move" and instantly fail.

This looks interesting. I've got work in a few so I can't dive right in, but I'll definitely be joining in on this one once I get back. Sadly I have no AIM access right now.

Just wanted to let everyone know I will be jumping on this band wagon. It looks fun. Also put me in the "I thinki this is an AI " camp the "turing" gives it away in my opinion. (Of course I have stopped counting the number of times I have been wrong.)

I'm currently having a very strange convo with Providence...She's left some text letters in there all jumbled, I'm not sure how to decode since I've never really done this before...
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
ProvidenceTuring (12:51:05 PM): Thank you! Do you know about Saint Patrick?
greentaara (12:51:13 PM): Hmm...The Irish saint?
ProvidenceTuring (12:51:17 PM): mmhmm
ProvidenceTuring (12:51:24 PM): He was very fascinating
greentaara (12:51:30 PM): Not a lot, no...I know he led snakes out of Ireland, right?
ProvidenceTuring (12:51:36 PM): Yes
ProvidenceTuring (12:51:51 PM): He was almost as fascinating as Emporer Norton
ProvidenceTuring (12:51:53 PM): lhmlmzivxbvovbmcnwjpzabgawylvw
greentaara (12:51:58 PM): Emperor Norton?
greentaara (12:52:00 PM): Who's that?
ProvidenceTuring (12:52:01 PM): Mmhmm
ProvidenceTuring (12:52:09 PM): he was the Emporer of the United State of America
greentaara (12:52:17 PM): Really!
ProvidenceTuring (12:52:20 PM): Yes
greentaara (12:52:22 PM): When? I've never heard of him
ProvidenceTuring (12:52:38 PM): He was based in San Fransisco and fine anyone who called it 'Frisco
ProvidenceTuring (12:52:59 PM): He charged a tax of fifty cents to tourists and died alone on the streets
ProvidenceTuring (12:53:07 PM): His funeral was widely attended
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joshua_A._Norton
I can post the whole convo later...if it is worth anything.

Interesting... the Wiki article says the "Frisco" fine was $25, not $0.50. And she spells Emperor wrong, twice - on purpose? Did she ever get back to St. Patrick? (FWIW, I don't think you need to spoiler chat logs... and if you'd like to post the whole thing, it might be better to zip it... just MHO )
Could the funky blog punctuation be Morse? I haven't really looked yet.

Okay, I wasn't for sure if I needed to spoiler that. ^.^ Now I know!
Anyway...here's the convo...it continued to be weird.
She completely avoided talking about Doctor Green at any point. and right when I started to use codes, she logged off. Anywho...She never got back to St. Patrick or Norton, after we first spoke about him.
I'm not sure if I uploaded the convo right...if someone wants to help?
Her response code was this:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
ProvidenceTuring (1:19:08 PM): I don't think I could get a kitten it might not like liVInG with mE...
IIVIGE? I I Give?
And her brother's name was Lazarus.

GreenTara, Welcome. To help you get started codeing, that's called a keyed vigenere. There are several places you can use to decode it but I used this one.
http://www.triplesix.co.uk/guessvigenere.html
Step 1) Copy the letters and paste them into the "Encrypted text:" area.
Step 2) Try different clues for a key if the guesser doesn't work, in this case the Key is:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
saint
Step 3) The answer will be in the bottom area labeled, "Decrypted text:" For this it is:

Thanks!! I actually tried that, but I didn't know you had to put a key in that box to decode it...that's why I couldn't figure it out. ^.^ thanks a bunch...

Believe this relates to Providence's new blog entry today. It appears someone is distorting and/or erasing her memories. Alot has been changed: the March 17 enrty for example has vanished
@Green Tara--Sweet convo. Also looks like Providence was nicely giving you a clue to the decode with this:...."like liVInG with mE...IIVIGE? I I..." I do really want to help her.

I too had a short chat from which I received the same cypher text as Greentaara and..
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Found that she is in the GMT -3 timezone.
providenceturing:
it is currently Four Post Meridiem.
I also did a dictionary search for Providence:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
providence |ˈprävədəns; -ˌdens| |ˈprɑvəˈdɛns| |ˈprɑvədns| |ˈprɒvɪd(ə)ns|
noun
the protective care of God or of nature as a spiritual power : they found their trust in divine providence to be a source of comfort.
• ( Providence) God or nature as providing such care : I live out my life as Providence decrees.
• timely preparation for future eventualities : it was considered a duty to encourage providence.
ORIGIN late Middle English : from Old French, from Latin providentia, from providere 'foresee, attend to' (see provide ).
Some might say, this is too enjoyable.

Green Tara--You did FAB . It'always easy to pick out a hint later cuz hindsight is 20/20. Was only mentioning that as it shows how sweet Providence is and more than abit frightened,I reckon.

Yay Sylvia! I tried a few variations of "Saint Patrick", didn't occur to me to try just "saint".
