Once again, things happen while I'm asleep, heh.

I have a strange question about the contents of the flash drive. Why were all the files encrypted, when the setup program for the encryption program and the key necessary to decrypt them were all on the same flash drive!? What was the point!?

Anyway, think I'm caught up here. Now to catch up in the "home thread"

Email from Jaana:

Quote:
Welcome to our new followers. You have found the key and have passed yet another trial.

We apologize for the theatrics in getting in to the site. In this day and age it is difficult to gauge individual ability, especially when we are unable to directly meet with prospective candidates, so we must resort to alternate methods to gauge aptitude.

Over time there will be more trials, and in the meantime we will begin researching some of you and picking out anyone who has signs of the gift. We are hoping that some of you can become true Lightbringers or, perhaps, something more. You may be divided up in to groups and given ratings simply for organizational purposes, but this is not an internal competition. Some of you simply have more skill and ability than others, and that is a result of fate and destiny more than anything else.

We are currently finalizing the internal mail system as well as having some personnel provide more content to the site (we are hesitant to provide information there for disclosure reasons). Things will be clearer soon enough.

I must remind you once again... There are forces at work in the world who do not understand, or agree, with what we are trying to accomplish. They will do anything to prevent us from achieving our goals. Do not stray from the light; do not let them cloud your judgment with dark thoughts. We are here to protect you and show you the way to enlightenment.

Once again, thank you and welcome.

- Jaana

Actually the key used to decrypt the 2 files I remember decrypting was the BG Level 4 key which was not on the flash drive. The key on the flash drive (CO1) hasn't been used yet.

Wow!
Talk about progress!

Toasty, you stole my idea-- as soon as I saw 'not Locke', I immediately thought 'Demosthenes.'

I kind of just skimmed over how this stuff was done, though, and registered. Hopefully it won't matter Razz

Four things..

First, SET 1 can be found full size here...
http://www.box.net/shared/i2jlsjy80s
but please don't hammer the site. If all you want to do is look at the pics, use the small ones on the wiki (Files>Flash Images) I'll get the second (big) set up ASAP, but it takes a while.

I've run all of the second set through the decoder and am currently doing the first set, so I'll let you know if I find anything. If someone wants to do other steg stuff, go ahead, but At this point I think it's just story background.

Third, I missed a smal item yesterday. There is a hardcopy picture in the book as a bookmark. It is a slightly different version of the two women lying in the grass. (halfway between img004 and img006 in set1) I'll scan it at some point, but I think this verifies that the blonde is Kate. The two recipes are: Sweet Potato Pie and Blueberry Pie. Smile

Last, I seriously don't have a clue where anyone found anything yesterday. Reading threads now, but, "A little help? Ball please?"

LK001.enf from your flash drive decoded (with BG Level 4 key) to an 11x30 grid of letters which was then used with the numbers from seek.enf (from BG site). The rest of the numbers to decode seek.enf were from the pictures in the Rosetta1&2 folders, that Zor and MrToasty put together. So we had a string of numbers from seek.enf 17 01 12 etc. Zorgano, brilliantly, combined that with the grid from LK001.enf (it wasn't originally seen as a grid just 30, 11 letter words). Anyways read Zorg's post to see how that got him to "shiningpath"

We don't have the keys to decrypt these files:
Conv002.enf
Recr002.enf

StartLoc.enf

Prch.enf
Txns001.enf

I grouped them like that because the first 2 and last 2 are decoded with the same key.

And I agree with Pancito, I think the pics are story, rather than game related. Also I think it is extremely unlikely that they are encrypted...Has anyone noticed how the encrypted photos all look like static before being decrypted?? And normal photos obviously turn into static when we attempt to decrypt them. The only possibility I can think of is that with the high resolution there could be something hidden in a corner somewhere but I doubt it.

Edit:

I must be missing something Pancito. How does that confirm it's Kate? And do you mean Kate or Katia? They are likely the same person but we don't know that for sure yet.

Yet another detail...

@AzureWolf>> Thank you very much. I suppose the images could be stegged, camo'd etc. but that isn't how this game is working. Everything is with the decryptor/keys.

Looking through stuff again, 'cause like Toasty I want to make sure I don't miss anything, I found a couple more small things. First, and irrelevant and meta, the large envelope was hand canceled in Miami (West Dade branch) even though the return zip is San Diego....

Next, the bookmark ribbon actually wraps around and also marks the recipes Crunchy Granola Ice Cream Squares and Snow Clouds. Have I mentioned that I love the fact that this is a dessert book? Very Happy

Last, and actually clueful, on the back of the Valentine there is a small drop of what looks like dried blood. In fact I'm sure it is, cause I sent it to the local forensics lab. I must say the PM is very dedicated.

Still looking...

I found that so very fitting. As for mine, the Dali book has at least a couple images that were used in LGL which made me smile. Very Happy

[RECAP]

pancito wrote:
Could someone PLEASE post a recap of what's been done today? I've been a little busy.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I assume everyone is at least up to date with the package that pancito received in the mail. Given that, yesterday's events began with the KL001.enf file included on the flash drive pancito was given. When decrypted, KL001.enf gave a text file of 30 lines of jumbled letters, each line 11 characters in length. Initial thoughts on the file involved looking at the letters as rotation, Vigenere, one-time pad, Enigma, etc. However, there was a much simpler solution.

Earlier in the week we received the decryption key for the Seek.enf file found originally on the BlueGenics site. Seek.enf decoded into an image which contained a line of text at the top and a line of numbers at the bottom. We were unable to decode the numbers until the Rosetta was pieced together, which also came aboard the flash drive. Key in hand, the set of numbers was revealed to be: 17 01 12 01 04 26 29 12 10 17 20. The peculiar connection to note here is that there are 11 sets of numbers, equal to the length of the set of jumbled characters from earlier.

In the IRC chat channel, the crew continued hacking away under the assumption that the decoded number sets were linked to the lines of text. Sure enough, after a bit of deliberation, Zorgano made the breakthrough observation of connecting each number to their respective column and taking the letter associated with the row indicated by the number in that column. The result was "shiningpath," the password for the Lightbringer website.

Upon logging into the site, the joyous first few of us scoured all the available links. There are three important pieces to take notice of:
  • In the top right-hand corner of the site is some Lightbringer text that reads, "Suppressing the Dark since 1008." The year 1008 corresponds to an earlier mention of the fight against the Dark having lasted for over a thousand years.
  • On the Control Panel section of the site, there is a place to register as a Lightbringer. You will receive a login ID and pass upon submitting your email. The login, also located on the Control Panel, will give you access to both the Control Panel and the Messaging system.
  • The Messaging panel is a makeshift mailbox that will likely be used for communication amongst fellow Lightbringers. Be certain to check this area in the coming days for any important invoices.
Aside from a Welcome message in the News section, that is all that we have found so far. There are presently no outstanding puzzles to solve. For now, we wait until the Lightbringers contact us.

In the meantime, there seems to be some confusion over which file is decrypted by which decryption file. Here is a list of all the encrypted files that we know of and their associated decryption keys:
  • Conv001.enf + BGLvl4.enc = Conversation between Gabriel and Helios.
  • Conv002.enf + ???(A) = ???
  • KL001.enf + BGLvl4.enc = Password puzzle for Lightbringer website.
  • LBKs.enf + CO2.enc + password("helios") = Level 0, Enhanced Level 1, and Imaging Level 0 Lightbringer decryption keys.
  • Prch.enf + ???(B) = ???
  • Recr002.enf + ???(A) = ???
  • Rosetta1.enf + BGLvl4.enc = Rosetta image puzzle pieces, part 1.
  • Rosetta2.enf + LB_Lvl1.enc = Rosetta image puzzle pieces, part 2.
  • Seek.enf + BGLvl4.enc = Password puzzle key for Lightbringer website.
  • StartLoc.enf + ???(C) = ???
  • Txns001.enf + ???(B) = ???
Message me if I missed a file and/or decryption key.

ETA: Ack, Azure already said just about everything in my post.
*leaps out of the way of an oncoming herd of trout*

SET2 is up. Again, use the small versions on the wiki unless you need to look at these.

Hey everyone, just got a new email Subject 'Calling out the Darkness'

Quote:
Sometimes the simplest of searches reveals the darkest of results.

i think we can prolly find a way to get into the umbrati site, but IMHO it will not have to do with any encryption and keys of BlueGenics or LB tech.
