I've spent some times surfin' the Fangoria boards to no avail.

Hey everyone,

This is James Zahn here...also a red seal recipient. As with Vic, I do not have Fangoria-ties (plus they're not really in the financial position to go viral right now but thats another story).

The things that strike me the most about this is that:
1. I am not a journalist, nor a blogger really.
2. I am a creative by trade, but on my own projects.
3. Mine came to my home address - a relatively new one at that.

Unfortunately I'd never heard or Mr. Hutchins prior to this, or most any of the other recipients - though I do have friends at Dread Central.

I've been keeping a list of known recipients going on by myspace page and official site...and before anyone starts pointing fingers in this direction - these things have nothing to do with anything I'm working on.

Also, here's a screenshot of one of the suspect ads running over at horror.com

James, thanks for providing that ad image. I have to say that I *do* find it interesting that the only item that you've ever "Dugg" that is NOT related to "Death Walks the Streets" is this this black envelope business. Cool

I'm in a similar situation to James Zahn (in fact I've found some really cool creative works online today searching for clues - including Mr. Zahn's work).

I can make the same statements that he made:

1: I was not familiar with J.C. Hutchins' work before today.
2: I'm not much of a blogger - I used to have a podcast but dropped it by the time iTunes started carrying 'em.
3: I'm a creative type by trade - but also an indie - this links to nothing I'm involved with.
4: Mine came to my home address - not the P.O. Box that I use for business.
5: I do subscribe to Fangoria (and they send the mag to my home addy) but I couldn't find anything about this on their forums.
6: I don't think I've ever signed up for a Digg account - if I have I've forgotten about it and don't usually use the site - I ran across their link this morning searching for info on the letter.

I am very curious - whatever it is advertising - it certainly snagged my attention.

Thanks!

Finally, I strongly believe this is a viral marketing (or ARG?) campaign for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor

Possibly as I'm reading The Oxford Murders and envisioning these home address mailings, I'd suggest that all the Red Seal recipients bolt their doors and windows before they tuck in tonight........Wink

Here's what I have so far from the red symbols.

Each symbol is three letters, every occurrence of a letter seems to be an exact copy, although sometimes mirrored and/or rotated.

The letter groups as far as I can tell are:

NOT ONE SEN SEC SCO OMC OMR ERM ERV EEV ENV ENA ANN ANT NOT

The Ms could be Ws. The letters are repeated in groups of three so the first three symbols contain N. The second through fourth contain E.

If you continue the pattern (and wrap around the circle for the last two groups) you get:

NESCOMREVENATO (or NESCOWREVENATO with W instead of M)

I see several words:

NES COM REVENATO
NESCO MR E VENATO
NESCO MR EVE NATO

This could be an anagram.

On FireFox, this address shows up with the TB logo when visited.

We have ourselves a lead.

I'm trying to track all of this on http://www.immersionunlimited.com/index.php?topic=2900.0

So refer to that post for an index of information.

also, the site has a counter... as of right now it looks like it's going to take about 6.5 hours to reach zero.

Nice find on deciphering the letters. You need to register, and stay around a while.

Anyone have a clue what the login might be?

It tells me, 'YOU ARE 0002'

Apparently its an active hit counter because I just got "you are 0004" and then 0006 when I tried again.
