I just noticed on the Registration page, there's a box that says:
"All high security communications will be encrypted either with our
Level One Encryption Key
or with a private key provided by your sales representative."

If you click the link, you can download what the site calls an "encryption file," but I have no idea what to do with it. Any ideas?

The German Wikipedia lists .enc as a possible format for UUencoding, and I've found some tools for decoding at bastet.com (who is Sekhmets sister in Egyptian mythology).

Don't have time to venture further now, but maybe someone else wants to give it a try.

I think the encryption file has something to do with the new program the PM is putting out:

Quote:
DLCrypt - Darklight is in the process of creating as new application designed for use by the alternate reality gamer. The application not only encapsulates the more traditional cyphers used in ARGs (Enigma, Vigenere, Caesarian Shift, etc...), but provides a brand new proprietary encryption system that is very similar to the commonly known PGP system of public and private keys, but with a much friendlier interface so that even the technologically inept can use it.

We are currently in discussions with numerous groups actively creating alternate reality games in the hopes that they will be part of our initial launch. Worst case, DLCrypt will be part of Darklight's next alternate reality game.

I transcribed the text of the letter for ease of reference:

Quote:
Dear Jean,

Happy You Day:

Sorry for the corporate letterhead, it's all I had. It's funny how you can never find a blank piece of paper when you need one.

I spent almost two hours wandering aimlessly around the bookstore, looking for the perfect gift that embodies how I feel about you. Frustrated, I bought this instead, so I hope you enjoy it. And I hope this gets to you in time, the post office isn't particularly reliable when you truly want it to be.

The past couple of months have been truly amazing, and I apologise that I have not been around as much as I should, or as much as I wanted to be. I trust you understand the importance of the work I'm involved with, and I wish it wasn't overwhelming me so but it is for the good of humanity what we're doing here.

I'm sorry I can't be there in person tomorrow, but I am there in spirit and you'll always be in my heart and in my thoughts. But good news: the higher ups out here have apparently noticed my depression and are chartering a flight out of Knoxville to San Francisco. I will be there Saturday morning or afternoon, so I'm hoping you're not busy and can meet me at the airport. Also, really good news: the company has some things for me to do in the area, so I'm going to be around a lot more for the next month or so. I'll call you with the flight info once I know the details. Hope my room's still available. ;)

Anyway, here's to you. I wish I can be there tomorrow to spend some quality time, hold you in my arms, and enjoy the day together as it should be. I promise I'll make it up to you this weekend. I might even have another gift up my sleeve.

All my love,
Patrick

The letter is dated Feb 13th, 2008, and it mentions something happening "tomorrow," i.e. Feb 14th 2008. That would be the second date on our OutOfTheBlue image...

Gone Fishing

I sent an email to Chris at Bluegenics fishing for information on Peter Monaghan. I identified myself as a friend of Jess.

We'll see what I get, if anything.

did we need to respond with an answer to get the next email with the map?

By the looks of the new site and this bit from the letter, we are going to be dealing with a Eugenics type theme here.

Eugenics.... BlueGenics Foily!

I am trying a different route to get access to the website. Here is the email I sent:

Quote:
To Whom it may Concern:

I am on the board of trustees for the Fish Foundation, a small not for profit research facility in Wisconsin. Due to funding restraints we are looking to outsource one of our Stem Cell Projects. Please contact me to discuss the viability of using your resources to do the initial lab work. Our scientists would then review the data and form the conclusions. Please contact me either here at my work address or at my personal email jbfish@(edited out).

I will let you know if anything comes of it.

Recieved word back from Chris.

Quote:
I am not at liberty to discuss any information regarding our former employees.

If you wish to contact his family, please do so through our Human Resources department.

Thank you.

Well, Patrick no longer works for Bluegenics. Anyone have an idea of how to contact Human Resources? I'm at work and can't pick through the website at the moment.

Edit:

Uh oh. I replied to that asking if there was a specific contact at Human Resources I could speak to. Chris' reply:

Quote:
If you knew him well enough, you wouldn't be asking that question.

Who is this?

Anyone have a good idea of what to respond with?

Semi-trivial info...
Jessica Valenti's address is Candlestick (now Monster) Park in San Francisco. Knock on the door all you want, the Giants have moved into a cellar downtown.

Encryption keys are normally used along with a program of some sort to generate encoded info. They can also be used as a digital signature. I don't know if any of that applies here. see PGP on wiki. Link
