And maybe related to the web app mentioned in Nate's blog thread.

It works fine for me. Btw, they've added this on the rss feed:

"San Diego Chamber of Commerce names Holomove to top 10 up-and-coming firms."

This is the website of San Diego Chamber of Commerce, jut fyi. Looks like OOG tho.

Actually, that's been in there since the beginning Smile

Yeah that's our actual Chamber of Commerce site. Just another link to the "real world" to provide realism.

Update 5/30/08

Holomove is having a press conference today. (5/30/2008) http://feeds.feedburner.com/HolomoveNews

Maybe this is where the new guy they hired, who has worked for the newspaper for 15 years, comes in to play. In the videos, Erik told him that it was his job to make Erik look good. If so then we shouldn't believe everything that is said in the press conference.

Update/Edit:

Holomove Announces Technological Breakthrough

According to Nathan, they cut the test video posted by RandomKnowledge to make it "look like everything is hunky-dory." Nate also said this:
Quote:
Things are decidedly not hunky, and especially not dory. George was the only one who tried to put a little truth into the matter, but Erik shut him down. It was all I could do to not yell out the truth. If they can tell such bold-faced lies, who know what else they're capable of?
Which proves my spec above that we shouldn't believe everything that is said in the press conference.

I did it first! Razz

Quote:
(Everyone sits down, shakes hands, etc. Notice that "paper guy" is in the front row, on the left)

(George, Erik and Eliza walk in, and sit left to right respectively)

Erik: Thank you all very much for coming. This is quite a lovely turnout. I can only assume it's a slow news day for so many of you who have graced us with your presence! Our good fortune. Well, you've got deadlines to meet, stories to file... this story to file. So let's get started. My name is Erik Andersen, I'm the primary stakeholder in Holomove Incorporated, I'm also the chairman of the board. To my right here is George Poulopatis. He's the Chief Executive Officer of the company. You'll find his CV in the media packages that were provided for you on your chairs. To my left here is Eliza Marks. She's the director of production. Now today's a very interesting day. Because almost 109 years ago, to this very day, the US patent commissioner uttered these very infamous words: "Everything that can be invented, has been invented." (everyone laughs) Well ladies and gentlemen I'm here to tell you today, that nothing could be farther from the truth. What changes, is the truth. Which is to say, scientific truth, the so-called laws, the notion of what's possible. What you're about to witness today is a working prototype of a technology that the world has not seen, or even expected. It's a unique synergy of what's been proven, tested, and of conventional technologies. (to the side) Video, please. George, perhaps you could narrate this for us.

(the video starts, "Courtesy of Holomove" is printed in the lower left. it shows parts of the Nobelium video)

George: Certainly. What you're about to see is a video which was shot three days ago. (video pans over Gough's equipment to the projector, we see the hand) This is our haptic holographic projector. (the hand floats over the orange) The image you see here, the hand, is a holographic reproduction of our technician's hand which has been placed in our laser scanner. (the shot moves to the birds-eye view, Gough is out of frame. then the shot moves to view the equipment from one end, as AJ moves toward the orange) Measured at 10,000 points per second across x, y and z axes, this quality of moving images is absolutely state-of-the-art. (long shot of the equipment, Gough is out of frame at all times. shot moves back to the close-up of the hand over the plate, which is now moving the orange around) But our projection system utilises lasers as well as high intensity sound waves to create kinetic energy, also in three dimensions. (the shot moves back to the end of the equipment, press people are in awe as the hand moves the orange) These sound waves generate reverse haptic forces which, when coupled with gravity and about a million lines of code, create a sense of touch. (long shot of the equipment again, then close-up as the hand lifts the orange clean from the base, Gough and AJ are laughing. note that the sound is sometimes muted on the video, so that Gough's voice cannot be heard on its own) Look carefully, a holographic production. Yes, that is correct, a projected image is manipulating a real object in realtime. This is a first, one for the books! (the hand turns over to hold the orange up, and the shot cuts off before the electric-buzzing-disaster)

(the video ends, everyone applauds)

Erik: So, ladies and gentlemen, how does it feel to have glimpsed the future? A 3-axis hologram with full motion, able to be manipulated and interacted with, realtime, real space. This is a major breakthrough in many areas: holography, reverse haptics, and sound projections at remarkable levels. All pioneered here, with Holomove technology. Now obviously, getting into the detail of the technology is beyond the pale, but I do welcome your questions. Please.

(the press all raise their hands and shout for attention)

Erik: Sir? (he gestures toward "paper guy")

PG: This is remarkable technology, Mr(?) Andersen. Um, could you talk about some of the commercial applications you envision?

Erik: Well, that's an excellent question. Uhm, the sky's the limit, really. For one, imagine a doctor being able to operate remotely, or perhaps even a miner having to excavate in an area that was previously deemed to dangerous to explore. It's even crossed our minds that the military might have a little interest in this technology.

PG: And a follow-up?

Erik: Of course.

PG: What's next for the company?

Erik: Well, at the risk of sounding a little modest, this truly is one of the biggest technological breakthroughs of the century, and I'll explain why. (the shot moves to another angle, we see 7 people sat down including paper guy and a guy holding a video camera) The hardware you see before you has been available for years, generally speaking, but it's our refinements, and the firmware and the software that's actually behind that technology, well that's what's made all the difference here. (shot moves back to the original shot) And it actually sets us apart from the competition. Which is to say, it would set us apart from the competition, if we had any. (everyone giggles) That's why I'd like to announce that we're gonna be going public in the next 30 days.

Random press guy: I-I have a question for Mr Poulopatis.

George: Yes?

RPG: Well, if the technology is so promising, I'm wondering why we didn't get to see an actual demonstration of it, in person, rather than this video. Wouldn't that be more credible?

George: Well, uhm, the machine is a prototype. The aligning of the optics, the haptic generator, it- it's very precise, it-it-it takes weeks, and to bring this machine over here to-

Erik (interrupting): Forget all that, actually. The military, as I just mentioned, has taken a very extreme interest in this technology, which precludes complete transparency, as I'm sure you can all understand. In any event, we hope to gain some concessions from our friends at the Pentagon, certainly before the public offering. (he giggles) thank you so much for being here today, ladies and gentlemen, I really do appreciate your time, but that is all the time we have for you today. Thank you! We'll be in touch!

(the press all start shouting for attention again as George, Erik and Eliza leave)

Well, obviously, I call BS. If you're gonna run a demo that revolutionary, do it in person, even if it's to only one person.

George is wound up, reading from a script, looking down all the time... Something's fishy.

And I'm still amazed at the production values of this, and things like the MSBC and NBC6 microphones in place, without having any clue who's running the show or what it's for? Remarkable...

Was the volume way WAY too soft for anyone else? I could barely hear half of it.

And the production values are inconsistent at best. I think that compared to the websites the videos are pretty unconvincing in terms of the acting and dialog. And its not that hard to print out MSNBC logos and tape them to a mic to make it look more realistic.

I wonder if we'll see anything of those "media packages" they talk about in the beginning? Probably just part of the script, but I'm curious as to what they would put inside those.

Also, Erik makes me all squicky inside. He just doesn't look like a guy I'd trust in real life.
