Who is John Sales?

Hey, folks. Back after a late night last night when the updates went up. Doesn't seem to be too much new - new sites and all, but we haven't figured out too much, that I can tell.

Anyway, this has been bugging me, since Friday, so I'm going to ask it on as many sites as I can get to today.

Just who is John Sales? There's a quote from him on Beth's bio: "Assumptions allow the best in life to pass you by."

Thinking that this might help us figure out another password - USH Hosting, perhaps? her own password at little-boxes.net? - I went looking for where this quote had come from. I can't find it - it's quoted everywhere, so it's a real quote, I think, but, where does it come from? If we could get a book title or something, it might give us a clue.

So, if anyone knows, please post something. Thanks.

p.s. This is not the movie director - that's John Sayles. Unless everyone and his brother has been misspelling his name in reference to this one quote since 1999....

p.p.s. There is one guy who's apparently someone in the English garden community - Garden? Gairden??

Sales, and EMC2's quotes

I've been curious about this too... it seems like a pretty well know quote to come from an obscure garden author who's published recently.

Also, and I threw this out there on the collective detective site as well, notice that emc2 (and not gairden or ormond) has multiple quotes in her bio, if you keep reloading the page:

Quote:
"Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored."=-Aldous Huxley
"Only the spoon knows what is stirring in the pot."=-Sicilian Proverb
"Assumptions allow the best in life to pass you by."=-John Sales

does it mean something? i have no idea.

I suppose two of the three quotes could be red herrings - maybe only one (Huxley?) is relevant in terms of passwords, and the other two just sounded appropriately Matrix-like (the Spoon one, especially).
