That's awesome. Joss fans are a force to be reckoned with.

yea

Yea Nos, I did not word that well. That was a response to the original comment that we should switch the chat to irc-chat-solutions because that is what hosts most Unfiction chats. I was making the point that there are existing communities that are more familiar with other servers.

We have a nice chat on freenode but if we as a community decide to move it over to our irc-chat-solutions we will. However right now it is more important to build up the base.

Dollhouse fans campaign to save show from cancellation, nine months before it even airs

Now that is low self-esteem, not even thinking it might have a chance for wide audience success...

I don't think it's that they think the show won't get an audience rather an attempt to show the DH already has an audience. Fox really did not give Firefly any support when it was on tv. they moved it around the schedule a lot and made it very hard to build an audience. they also played the episodes out of order which made the viewing experience very disappointing. If Fox gave Firefly the support the WB originally gave Buffy it probably would have been a hit.

I don't know why I wrote that.

It is because each Whedon show contains secret brainwashing messages that train us all to respond thusly.... or we're all used to getting screwed by FOX. one of the two

This gets my vote. I suddenly wanted to jump to the defense of Firefly too. It's a reflex methinks.

although this whole discussion is OT (in regard to the dollhouse ARG), i like to say something about this campaign.

i really don't like the idea, that people are already trying to "save" dollhouse from cancellation.

1) none of us have seen it. we don't know, if it's any good. i like to judge a show (and start action) after i've actually seen it.
2) this is a new management at Fox. headed by Kevin Reilly who came over from NBC, where he renewed The Office after incredibly low ratings in the first season. He is known to give shows a chance to grow. So far, Fox' support for Dollhouse has been incredible. Joss trusts in his support, altough he said, he didn't want to work with them anymore after Firefly. That's good enough for me.
3) What image does such a campaign deliver? basically such a campaign is saying "this show is ALREADY in trouble", which looking from the two points mentioned above, simply isn't true. the problem is: people are talking about this (wired.com, boingboing.com), they are talking about a failing show 8 months before it premiered, and what they are not talking about, is the show. the trailer. the interviews. this is the definition of bad marketing: highlighting not even real, but potential problems, and shifting the focus away from the positive things that are worth anticipating. the trailer, for instance. nobody out there will get interested in a show, just because they heard, that the guy who's doing it has fans that are already trying to "save" it, because they've been burned by the network. somebody out here might get interested in a show, where a group of people have their personalities replaced and memories erased to commit thrilling acts of what-ever-you-want.

While I don't think they're campaigning because they think the show is in trouble, I do agree with wiesengrund. When Firefly was canceled, the campaign was justified because the show was in trouble. Right now, the show hasn't even begun and they're already campaigning to save it, when it doesn't show any signs of needing to be saved. I think the campaigners hearts are in the right place, because Fox has royally screwed fans more than once, but as people have said, it's under new management. We can't assume that this new management is going to chug along like the old, ignorant management that screws fans of good TV.

Also, 'sup model.

Yeah, I think that Whedon fans are just used to getting the short end of the stick, so they are striking first this time. But I as well feel that it could be very counter-productive.

Therefore, what should be done is campaign to tell Fox not to screw up once more (I personally didn't like Firefly, but a lot of people seem to). Like you guys mentioned: good intentions, just not aiming at the right place.

Also, everything seems pretty dead...

I'm thinking we may be going into an extended holding pattern. Maybe this was launched too early? I mean, the show isn't slated to start until January, and if this isn't going to be some epic game it probably won't last that long. I mean, I certainly don't doubt that there are ARG developers capable of making an epic game like that, but they're rare. So I'm thinking this one was maybe launched earlier than intended and now the guys behind the scenes are trying to figure out what to do with it.

I still haven't received any response from my initial email to Sheridan, nor have I received any contact from any other characters.

What I am starting to think is that it wasn't so much launched early as accidentally or leaked. Would explain the 'gimmie' password to the email post, the fact that the site is down now, and such.

It could have also be set in motion before they had decided exactly when the show would air.
