[BLOG][ARIADNE]Omphalabyrinth Design I red through the articles and looked for the Picture in the Blogpost. All are pointing to the same. The town Knossos in Creta. The coin is an artefact, found in the ruins of Knossos, it shows the "Creta Labyrinth", or the "Labyrinth of Knossos".
Knossos was also the place, where the history of Ariadne and Theseus happened. The Coin showed in the Post has also a backside.

Don't we know this specific labyrinth-form?
Didn't Eli or Kai said we should do some Historical Research?

Re: [BLOG][ARIADNE]Omphalabyrinth Design By the way, in Kai's image the greek word AR KNOSION is leftside right. Here's an image of a similar coin:

Just found an article about Cretan ancient coins .
Quote:
The oldest coins of Crete, so far as they have been identified, cannot be assigned to an earlier period than circ. B.C. 500 (cf., however, A. Evans on Minoan weights and currency in Corolla Num., p. 336 f.), while the most important period of coinage is from circ. B.C. 400 to 300. The autonomous issues cease about B.C. 67 with the conquest of Crete by Q. Caecilius Metellus. Imperial coins were struck at some of the principal cities of the island, and there was also an issue of money for the Province of Crete generally.
The usual standard is the Aeginetic, the chief denominations being the stater or didrachm and drachm. After the age of Alexander the Attic standard gradually replaces the Aeginetic. It is probable that Alexandrine coins circulated in Crete, though only a few of the mint-symbols have been satisfactorily made out. About B.C. 200 many of the cities (see under Cnossus) struck imitations of the Athenian tetradrachm with their own names and symbols.

And also a book from Harvard University. (So says Google)

Looking at the coin image, there's an arrow pointing up. Could it be pointing to the North?
--EDIT--
i mean...does it somehow tell us how the labyrinths were orientated?

I don't think orientation is important

This, and other tips, will probably turn up in Ariadne's blog soon, but Kai let me know in an e-mail that tall buildings can interfere with the effectiveness of the trackstick. "Tracksticks don't do terribly well without a direct line of sight to satellites."
So that's something to consider in the designs.
I sent a labyrinth design to Mei Hui for NYC because she e-mailed and asked for it. My design is just silly as I've never been there. I drew a route that would end up at the MoMA, and based the design on nothing more than I would like to go there.
Someone with local knowledge please help with NYC! I think Kai and Mei want to try the city labyrinth during the June 7 weekend.

Yes, there will definitely be more info forthcoming. I sent Kai another message on Facebook basically saying, "Hey, remember me, I sent you my address in case Toronto turned up on the list, and now it has, so can you pls send me a trackstick? Or do you want to see us make a labyrinth map first?"
His response:

Hi [dreamerblue]!
That's great that you're on the list! I've sent Ariadne some instructions which she's going to post to her blog later today, and once you put together a map, I'll send out your trackstick!

Yep, I received a similar reply:
Quote:
Hey Canzonett,
I looked at your labyrinth and it looks pretty good, I'll have to check with Eli though, I'm not sure if it will work ending where it does because you never make it out of the labyrinth! I'll let you know!
Ariadne is going to post some instructions to her blog later today so keep a look out for those!
-Kai"
I do hope they will approve despite the twisted end inside my labyrinth, because otherwise the whole thing will grow even bigger than it already is - I'm running out of streets for the inner city ...
I also sent a proposal for a NYC labyrinth to both MeiHui and Kai (three proposals in fact ), but didn't get a reaction from them. As I have never been there, either, they are probably quite worthless, anyway. Where are the New Yorkers?

I e-mailed Eli Hunt asking about whether city labyrinths had to be run from the outside-in, inside-out, or both (outside to inside to outside, like a personal labyrinth). Here is his response:
Quote:
Dear [dreamerblue],
My understanding is that that knot can be tied in either direction,
although I prefer traveling to the center of the omphalos myself.
Sincerely yours,
Eli Hunt
So there you go, it's official .

One posible BA urban labyrinth is totally based in that coin. The labyrinth center is the "Obelisco":

Message from Kai, commenting on my lab designs:
Quote:
"Those all look great! Has Eli gotten back to you? He's the one who needs to give final approval before you all go out and do it.
It's going to be so cool to do it on bicycles! Don't forget to take pictures and video!"
Ergo: Final approval from Eli necessary.

Has anyone heard an approval from Eli yet? I am itching to organize a training-and-city-labyrinth day for Toronto, but I don't want to go ahead without an approved design...

No word from Eli yet, and I am waiting just as impatiently as you!
I had sent him both my first, very preliminary and rough sketches (a week ago!) and the final three designs our team has agreed upon.
Until now: silence.
June 16 seems to be the ideal compromise date for our Munich labyrinth - but we need to organize some things until then, and it's a bit hard to do so without an approved design. "Training-and-city-labyrinth" day sounds like a brilliant idea, but I fear we won't have the time nor the number of people necessary for both.
