[MISSION]Mythopoeia/Sophrosune: Make a Register

Could one of us, or Kai perhaps, make an online register? I can't imagine it would be too complicated. Although I don't understand how it can be kept in an omphaloi... could the labyrinth register be related to the omphaputer somehow? I'm sure it's not coincidence that Trailer IV and Chapters 19 and 20 were released at the same time.

I've already started working on something like this, but I need a lot of help... send me a PM (anyone!) if you're interested in collaborating. Smile I posted a video message to Kai asking if they could lend a hand, but so far, no reply.

So yeah, figured since every other mission has a topic this one ought to as well. I totally agree that the register would be easiest online, but then again there's also the phrase in chapter 19 that talks about how every city has a register, and that it's kept in the omphalos of that city. Of course, the most logical thing to do would be to say that the Omphaputer is it, but that doesn't work either, as that isn't an omphalos as much as it is an oracle. If you catch my drift.

So maybe once we get our register up we should have subdomains for each major city/area? Where would we host it anyway, on omphalos.net? (heh, that'd be kind of cool)

I dunno, I'm just shooting ideas at the wall at far to late at night. Feel free to discuss, so we can get this up as soon as possible. Unfortunately my web skills are lacking, so I'm doing my best with contributing. And organization is nice, since I'll be doing this on Saturday whether or not we have a register up by then.

I'll be glad to help Smile
Is it something like yahoo upcoming that registers a Labyrinth event, but in the Omphaputer?

Would something like the events system at http://www.learnlangs.com/ringo work? I originally planned it for coordinating public labyrinth runs, so people could easily indicate whether they participate and what tasks they could do. Note that the website is still beta.

^I like the different language support feature Wink
Here's my understanding of the mission so far:

Quote:
You must sign the personal labyrinth register.

Organize a Labyrinth event in your own area.

Quote:
You must show to the many worlds your intentions to finish the rite beforehand, by signing the labyrinth register.

Spread the word.

Quote:

In the register, you must write your name, your location, your chosen place for the labyrinth, and the date that you intend to finish the rite. You must write this information at least one a day beforehand.

The labyrinth register must be kept in the omphaloi. Typically, each main city has its own register.

There's a code for the Omphaputer for registering a Labyrinth event.

This is just speculations on what we must do, what do you think?

I think that it is important to note that this mission is about *personal* labyrinths. Thus, this isn't about organizing an "event" really because the labyrinth is only for one person!! I think the point of signing the labyrinth register is to make it 'official' for the purposes of synchronization across worlds...

A personal labyrinth? I'm not entirely sure how that would work. There wouldn't be any assistance from the walls and a blindfolded run in circles just seems like a waste of time if you don't quite know what you're doing. I need to finish reading the codex so far. Maybe this has to do with the personal meditation outlined in the Hong Kong artifact? I think our first step should be to figure out what EXACTLY the labyrinth we are registering for entails.

According to the Codex, the labyrinth walker isn't blindfolded -- this isn't the Olympic event -- and the walls are "real" and not made up of other people.

Okay, so it sounds like either we build the labyrinth or it will be shown to us and we'll have to sign in prior to completing it? I'll have to bring this up for discussion when the SF agonothetai meet this Sunday.

This is true. I intend on trying it out on Saturday (it being my birthday and all), so I'll give feedback on Sunday as well.

Maybe we could place registries in libraries? Most libraries are open to community building events, plus it's free publicity for them and most cities that I know of have a public library system. Either that or we need to find someplace that is a travel marker or navigational aid, like the ancient omphaloi and make that our omphalos location. Maybe if we have any artists out there that can sculpt some kind of container for our registry, we can work out a system from there.

Personally, what it makes me think of is one of those guest books that I've seen left at weddings and various historic places, where you sign to say "I was here" in a way, and to let the person running the wedding/historic site know who's been there, how often people come, where they come from, etc. The difference here is that this register is to say not "I was in this place" but "I will be in such-and-such a place"...to let your parallel selves know where and when to be in order to make the event a synchronized one, allowing for the unifying of your memories across the parallel worlds.

I'm not really sure how signing this register lets your parallel selves know, though...wouldn't they have to be doing a personal labyrinth with you at the same time for them to get the memory of you signing the register? Doesn't that form somewhat of a vicious cycle, a catch-22 as it were? Hmm, maybe when the codex page says, "You must show to the many worlds your intentions to finish the rite beforehand, by signing the labyrinth register," it doesn't mean you are showing your many selves, but somehow informing the many worlds...in some way and for some reason that I don't understand.

Which is a bit of a catch 22, but if we can log out personal labyrinths on the omphaputer, there has to be some command line for that. Any ideas?

See, logging our planned personal labyrinths on the omphaputer does make sense if we are assuming the omphaputer can communicate across the worlds...so if you were checking it once a day (say), you could see if one of your parallel selves had a personal labyrinth run coming up, and plan to coordinate with that self by also doing a personal labyrinth at that time and place (heck, maybe you could even log a comment saying, "Oh, ok, alternate me, I'll be there! Let's do it!" Wouldn't that be weird...).

BUT making the omphaputer the registry doesn't make sense from the standpoint that each major city is supposed to have one of these registries...as a physical object, I'm thinking. The omphaputer isn't in every major city (except virtually, as it is accessed by the Interweb, but then it is also in every minor city where people surf to that IP).

True, true. So we're back to creating a log book and... hiding it somewhere? That seems reasonable, but a bit tricky. Maybe this is another thing we need to "hide in plain sight."

I think it's the code also, I've been messing with some combination of codes and words(MAKE CREATE REGISTER BUILD OMPH etc), and been trying them in the Omphaputer after the MAKE OMPH KNOT command, to me, it looks like it's "syncing" with the other parallel worlds.

eta: how many parallel worlds are there in the lostring world?, aside from this one and the other one where Eli is helping Ariadne..?
