ALSO! at 44:56 there seems to be some kind of liquid flying off the parasites chops. Can you say infectious saliva?

Actually they are right about the bit around 32:06 when Hud and Rob are in the electronics store. Hud shows shots of the news reports and you can see MGP using those little arms. They don't seem to have normal digits like his 'hands' do. He does indeed 'taste' something that could be a chunk of a building, but it's a big chunk of whatever it is. In the later part of that sequence you can see the parasites falling off. I suggest you watch that @ 1/4 or 1/8 speed - those things ball up when they go into freefall, and bounce fairly well. They recover amazingly quickly too.

I'm not so sure that's a Christmas tree, but it does appear to be some sort of decorated tree or shrub. There is another potted shrub you see that is unadorned opposite that early in the sequence, before he pans right. Could just be department store decor.

don't know what time, but right after the helicopter crashesand the camera "malfunctions", there is a VERY fast image of classic King Kong, its on YouTube, and I saw it myself. (I did NOT discover it)
