Hmm...
Lost Ring, Lost Continent... Atlantis! Very Happy
Wikipedia wrote:
The massive Thera eruption, dated either to the 17th or the 16th century BC, caused a massive tsunami that experts hypothesise devastated the Minoan civilization on the nearby island of Crete, further leading some to believe that this may have been the catastrophe that inspired the story.

Wait a sec...
... more on number of continents/world areas

OK, it just occurred to me that even though a continent cannot be "lost" per se, in the Olympic games, I think it's possible a region/continent CAN go un-represented, hence, possible "lost" in a way...

See the list below...

After I took the TheO oath, James gave me a folder with nine really old maps that had cities marked where there are heavy concentrations of TheO. I think the assumption here is that these are the Labyrinth Cities. Here are the twenty-four locations from those maps:

Bankok, China
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Manila, Philippines
Reykjavik, Iceland
Goteborg (Gothenburg), Sweden
Sydney, Australia
Melbourne, Australia
Wellington, New Zealand
New Delhi, India
Madrid, Spain
Paris, France
London, England
Munich, Switzerland
Vienna, Austria
Berlin, Germany
Beijing, China
Cape Town, South Africa
Vancouver, Canada
Toronto, Canada
San Francisco, CA
Los Angeles, CA
Dallas, TX
New York, NY
Boston, MA

I've sent this to Ariadne and Eli suggesting to them we keep where we got this info from on the down low.

Then take a look at this comment by unagi:

And no cities in South America?

Which makes me think... maybe in 1913, South America, as a region and/or continent, maybe was NOT represented... perhaps making it seem "lost" in a way...?

Any other thoughts to this crazy rambling?

The Atlantis theory somehow makes sense to me, especially considering good old Francis Bacon ...

... unless the map that Eli is drawing in the fifth trailer (ca. 0:44) is supposed to tell us something ...

North America
South America
Europe
Asia
Australia/South East Asia

Acoording to this website (in portuguese), Brazil joined the Olympic Games only in 1920 - Antwerp.

--EDIT--
By the way, we've been to all World Cups ever!
Couldn't resist, sorry... Laughing

Nonononono. Europe and Asia have always been counted as two different continents - not for geological/geographical, but for historical and cultural reasons.

And this is not about a "lost" continent (how should a continent get lost?), but about a lost metal ring, the symbolic meaning of which probably differs from that of the other five.

A little more research
... even if from Wikipedia..

Alright, so I know this is definitely NOT the most reliable information, but here is good ol' Wiki says:

The Olympic movement uses many symbols, most of them representing Coubertin's ideas and ideals. The Olympic Rings are the most widely used symbol. These five intertwined rings represent the unity of the five inhabited continents (with the Americas regarded as one continent). The five colored rings on a white field form the Olympic Flag. The colors, white, red, blue, green, yellow, and black, were chosen such that each nation has at least one of these colors in its national flag. The flag was adopted in 1914, but the first Games at which it was flown were Antwerp, 1920. It is hoisted at each celebration of the Games.

The Olympic Motto is "Citius, Altius, Fortius", a Latin phrase meaning "Swifter, Higher, Stronger". Coubertin's ideals are probably best illustrated by the Olympic Creed:

"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."

So this confirms the Americas were considered one continent, and that obviously Antarctica didn't count... Or at least that's what Wiki says Razz

I really do like that Olympic Creed though... I have a feeling that this might come up later in FTLR maybe...

Oh, and thanks for clarifying that Jorge... and it was my mistake too, since if I paid attention the first games to have these Rings was the one in 1920... 1913/1914 was when the design was made Razz

Don't we have a codex chapter somewhere that talk about drawing circle around continent and that's they should not be interwined... i just can't find it right now.

It could maybe be some design instructions for the "lost rings" art ?

Yes, that one. But it's only talking about 5 rings so that may not be that.

OK, you're possibly talking about Chapter 22:
http://olympics.wikibruce.com/Codex-11Ap1
Here you see a word "intertwine".

The chp. 25 codex page is probably talking about this sculpture. Trout me if necessary Very Happy Commissioned by the 6 as a way to leave behind the final instructions on how the tattooed athletes can get home.

I am picturing the 5 sculpture rings fitting together to make one ring the way those metallic bike-tire-looking rings do in the beginning of all the trailers. When they are all together it makes a 6th ring?

The trailer spinning rings quite probably show how the "lost rings" art should look like

One can even see that it's made of 6 rings. (pic below)

I like the idea that we had it in front of our eyes just from the very beginning. Just like the whole "hidden in plain sight" thing. Smile

Too bad those rings don't have any inscription we can read in the trailer Sad.

Regarding the speculations of the ring-continent relationship:

The video shows what Eli thinks (or had thought or will thought):
5 rings:
- N-America
- S-America
- Europe
- Asia
- Australia

"Missing"
- Africa

He writes "Can we find them in time?"
