I'm not sure of the process here on unfiction as I am only an occasional visitor, but would it be appropriate for the mods to go ahead and set up a forum for this next phase of the LOST ARG/ARE/thingy since there is obviously a lot of interest here?

It would be nice already to have a few separate discussion threads such as Dharma Initiative background, What is Canon?, Octagon Global Recruiting website, etc.

Since we don't even know that whatever they are planning will actually require such a structure, this seems a little premature.

Agreed. Besides, the question of Canon has been asked and answered already.

Whoa... Engineers is on the list of job opportunities twice... Seems like a big oversight... or a clue that they couldn't think of any more E words...

EDIT: These are all the capital letters on the job list:

MPPZPMBREBDHCWCSNJEBAEMEVIVFCTAITMINIAMDRCAEHD

Maybe a little more to work with?

Was that test already with Sawyer since the crash, along the other items he scavenged, or did he get it from the Swan? It's the only possible evidence of involvement between Widmore and Dharma. If Sawyer took it from someone's luggage after the crash, then there's no evidence at all of Widmore being involved with DHARMA (although we do know that Widmore has been involved with Hanso Foundation during Mittelwerk's takedown).

When Ben and Widmore talk in The Shape of Things to Come, don't they both seem to agree that Ben took the island from Widmore, in so many words? If I'm remembering that conversation correctly, doesn't that imply that since Ben took the island from DHARMA in the Purge, Widmore is associated with DHARMA? That is, how else could Ben have taken the island from Widmore?

Hey there, unfiction! I'm a longtime LOST fan, and have harbored a casual interest in ARG's ever since ilovebees hit national media attention. I am really excited to be part of a new ARG from the very beginning, and I hope to be of help.

So, what have we got so far?

A (most likely) fake blog site.
Some possible code hidden in the flash player source.
A string of letters in the commercial.

So far, I think the letters look the most promising. Why deliberately hide "The Dharma Initiative" and then let it degenerate into gibberish? Has anyone tried a letter-substitution cipher? I can get on that, if you guys think it bears pursuing. In the meantime, what else do we have to go on?

has anyone thought of entering anything else into the field where Octagon asked for the email address? like the numbers, or maybe the letter combination, or something else? It's worth a shot

There was an interesting comment over on YouTube under a slowed down version of the Octagon Global Recruting video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlECZdoTQbc

It's actually easier to see on the original video, when the octagon is rotating near the end of the video, the inside surface changes from bright gold to a darker shade, and within the darker shade, each of the three sides appear to have a symbol of some kind (letter, number, ?)

I agree we need some more code-breakers looking at this. I've tried a few things without success.

Cool find!
I suppose, inside of this ring there is a logo of DHARMA with Bagua

The exact lines of dialogue:

WIDMORE: That island's mine, Benjamin. It always was. It will be again.
BEN: (Turning) But you'll never find it.

(Source: http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/The_Shape_of_Things_to_Come_transcript)

To me, it's more on the lines of arrogance, ambition and self-confidence from Widmore than any real "possession" of the island on the past.

One thing I've been thinking is, the orignal TLE started with an email submission box, but then when the password breakingstrain was typed in we ended up with persephone, maybe we're waiting on a password for the octagon email box?

The inside of the rings is the pattern from the outside ring of the DHARMA initiative logos. Remove the image in the middle (the swan, etc.) and turn the logo inside itself a little bit and you've got the octagon for OGR.

Actually, I think that's what Kosmopol was saying above about the bagua.

JackFrost, thanks for bringing up the actual dialog. It does make the situation more ambiguous.

By the way, where can I find transcripts? or did you just watch a recording?

As with pretty uch every single Lost question asked in this thread, just go check Lostpedia.

http://lostpedia.com/wiki/Transcripts

I think maybe I should just put Lostpedia in my sig, because it's always the answer.
