that is interesting

I saw that somewhere else too (I thought it was on here, but apparently not). I am interested to know how who every found this came to using the "NSVHPJXMFIQWGCEYRZDBAOKLTU" cypher. Admittedly, I am pretty ignorant when it comes to cyphers but that seems extremely random.

Near as I can tell it originated here:

http://www.losttv-forum.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2184546

But like you, I'm confused as to why they would just "assume" this is the cipher alphabet to be used.

There are some pretty rich anagram possibilities following the use of that cypher. I haven't found one yet that makes a huge amount of sense, but I'll mention if I do.

Yep, that's where I saw it on the losttv-forum. In general, I try to never assume, so the comment "If we assume the cipher alphabet is NVQHPJRMFLSWICEYKZDBAUTOXG" made me question the foundation of the idea.

I hope its right though because it would be progress of some sort.

Oh god... lets take bets on how many people will post something along the lines of "This is my first ARG, I heard about TLE, but was too late to join in, I'm super excited and love LOST!!!"?

I'm gonna go ahead and say at least 5..

is that 5 per page because that's about average for the last 13 pages... LOL

Also for a simple alphabetic substitution cypher there are several possibilities- you can shift the letters one space as suggested here by Imisscharlie- such as a=z and b=a or you can reverse the letters a=z b=y c=x, etc...

Keep playing with posibilities since we have nothing that points at a probable key to the cypher... maybe one of them will pan out with more than random words that might be of interest but prove of little or no use...

Doc halidai on Lostpedia posted this:
The remaining letters - EABEJNCHDBEBMPZPPM - spell out "outofandstothereeh" using a monoalphabetic cipher (NSVHPJXMFIQWGCEYRZDBAOKLTU => abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz)

and an anonymous poster on insidetheexperience anagramed that to: 'To Four Toed Heathens'

(EDIT:well it was credited thusly on insidetheexperience where I saw it so its making the rounds as several other folks have posted on it just now... I likewise don't know where they came up with that arrangement or what kind of key they are working off of- it'd be interesting to track down who orginiated that key and find out thought)

Does that mean anything? Does "Zodiac"? Is it just a head scratcher?... Interesting, great trains of thought... maybe it will lead us deeper into the rabbit hole.. if nothing else it will get us all warmed up for a new ARG... back pats all around!

While I'm not denying anything, lets not jump to conclusions. Although the string of letters defiantly look fishy, usually cyphers require a code word of some type or some clue as to how many letters to shift. Considering the large range of letters available, there are bound to be possible anagrams in almost every substitution and cypher that we try. All I'm saying is that there has got to be some sense as to how to go about this, rather than taking shots in the dark... especially if you've got the accuracy of Sawyer...

I believe there was a scene in Lost where survivors found the remains of a giant statue. It only had four toes

I'm glad to see some decoding attempts. Random looking solutions may uncover a key later, so anything is fair game at this point, although doing a random letter substitution and then anagramming is a stretch without a key.

Just to fuel the decoding fire, here are two observations:

1. These both have the same number of letters:
Code:
ExploreThePossibilities
OctagonGlobalRecruiting

2. These both have the same number of different lettters:
Code:
ExploreThePossibilities

EABEJNCHDBEBMPZPPM

This is kind of a long shot, but is there any way the numbers are that code word? Maybe adding in the corresponding letters gives enough to make another anagram or something. There would be problems with 42, though; like I said, it's probably not right.

I don't mean to discourage attempts to play the game, but I do agree with dposse and Jason Xz here. With only one source of information, that Web site, it seems pretty unlikely that there's a next step to be taken just yet. I think we still need more information.

Erm, yes, that would be why someone glommed on to that particular anagram.

Yeah yeah, I know, but I don't want to wait... Sad

Here's something. It's most likely fanfic of some sort. It's a relatively high-quality youtube video, pretty much unwatched thus far, that comes up when you google "EABEJNCHDBEBMPZPPM".

http://pl.youtube.com/watch?v=o5Z0muWxtmM

My polish is kind of rusty, so I'm not too clear on any of the details, like when it was posted. I'd investigate myself, but I really need to get some work done.

God save my job once this game actually begins, huh?
