no worries 'IMissCharlie' we all started once, i myself aren't that experienced (i did alot of lurking on perplex city, and posted randomly here and there).

another fantastic lost refrence is http://lost-and-gone-forever.blogspot.com/ its a guy named brians' personal blog, and he posts after watching very episode god only knows how many times. he sometimes notices things lostpedia dosen't catch and its an interesting read for any LOST newbs out there.

Thanks dontpanic42, I appreciate it. And thanks for the additional LOST info resource.

For others new to ARGs I found the tutorial provided by unfiction very helpful for the basics. It can be found http://www.unfiction.com/dev/tutorial

Finally, just a note about my own new obsession, I started watching lost around April 28th. I saw part of the pilot when if first aired, but didn't stick with it. During season 4, I regretted not watching, but I knew I needed to start at the beginning. So at the end of April I started watching online at ABC. I finished all 4 seasons in time to join the rest of North America to see the Season 4 finale live. Kind of sad that I don't have a life, I know. But it sure made for a fun 4 weeks. Oh, and yes, I did notice the OGR commercial immediately and was on the site within 10 minutes.

I'm new here as well ~gack~ another newbie ! I didn't get to play the first ARG but played find815. I hope I can keep up with this one. I figured I better post before it gets off on a roll.

Jokes aside, it never hurts to have fresh eager minds on these things. As long as they take the time to read what has already been discovered...

I did start at the beginning and read all the 18 pages of info you all have on what I hope to be the new ARG. I have too much time on my hands and am totally addicted to lost.

Hey what about the formulas written on the clear board by the lady towards the end? Can anyone flip these around and see if they have any correlation or relationship to the Velenzetti Equation or maybe even the formulas written on Faraday's Blackboard or notebook in "The Constant"? Or to any other formula used in the series for that matter?

I'm not sure if they look anything like the other equations on Lost, but if they're real they use pretty advanced math. I've had Calculus I, II, and III and differential equations and I don't recognize it as something I've done before. If it's real, it's a very specific application; the actual math being shown isn't too hard, but with that many variables there's not even enough equations up there to know what they all mean. It kind of looks like stock photo math gibberish, but some of it is in the right format (like the infinite integral). There's definitely a lot of math that's over my head, though, so it's hard to tell for sure. I'm not so good at the calculus necessary for time travel! Very Happy

EDIT: I looked around in my physics book, and the h with the bar through it is called the Reduced Planck Constant, which is used in quantum mechanics. K is something called a propagator, but I haven't taken quantum yet so I have no clue what that means. I couldn't find an equation of that form in my book, though I'll try to look around later to see if I missed something or if it's equivalent to another form. Those symbols look like they might come up in the Schrödinger or Dirac equations, which both form part of the foundation for quantum mechancics.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If they're Lost related, maybe they have something to do with the exotic matter from the last episode?

I'm still not convinced, though, that this has anything to do with the game; it doesn't seem like they would make us wade through quantum mechanics to get clues.

I have to concur that this looks like standard pretend maths, although I am impressed that they found a book to copy some of the symbols out of, so much pseudo-maths doesn't even get that far. You're quite right that h bar comes up in the Schrodinger equation and squared over 2m at that, but I want less square roots and more differential operators for quantum, and we're definitely missing the greek alphabet. And how many mathematicians are there that are that neat when working on a black/white/see-through board?

I await the day when degree level applied mathematics is crucial to solving a puzzle. Trouble is I'll have forgotten it all by the time that happens.

I've had a look back at a couple of scenes in "The Constant" and can't match this to anything of Faraday's. He has more diagrams but the equations don't seem to share anything. Sad

(Not new to Lost, not new to args but new to Lost args. And certainly not new at picking at random inconsequential details until something more obvious comes along. Nor at maths.)

Here's a toast to picking at random inconsequential details until something more obvious comes along! Cheers!

I verified this with my girlfriend, who has taken more physics classes than me. She agreed that it looked like pseudo-math to her, though they got some stuff right. I think we can go ahead and declare this as a stock math photo, but with a little respect for going beyond what most stock images do.

And yes, it would be nice to have some advanced math, but I took it a year ago and I've already forgotten a lot! Very Happy

spent an hour reading all the posts and skipping over a good chunk in the middle since ive never seen lost and plan on starting over the summer Razz

anyway I mingled in FIND815, and Cloverfield when they were around. Just finished the HBII ARG (as far as main meat goes - now they need to tie up the loose ends .. hopefully)

alright so this is the FIRST ARG I have been able to catch before it has really started and thank god for that because i am tired of jumping in half way through so i refuse to lol

anyway - when did the find815 arg end exactly? and who is to say that the random youtube video is for sure fan made or for sure in game i toss it into the MINGMOOG (maybe in game maybe out of game - new term haha!) category. anyway, lets sit tight and see i mean maybe they connect find 815 and this currently untitled ARG (TLE3?).

I look forward to working with you all on this but i also would love to see nothing but mature and thoughtful posting without the snappiness that usually happens especially coming out of the HBII arg which the official forums for which were very very friendly Smile

So LOST episodes to be borrowed and watched. Season 4 just ended right? so I have a lot to watch i guess lol but i have a month and a half before this ARG truly kicks off

Use the lostpedia for questions about TLE1 and Find 815 as well as deeper discussion when you are watching the episodes. This must have been some of that "big chunk in the middle" you skipped over as its been tossed out as THE resource for all questions on the show and previous expereiences numerous times. Also all the episodes are on ABC.com so don't have to waste time looking for them to borrow just start watching.

We have been given a date for the recruiting event in July which coincides with the Comic-Con- that does not necessarily mean that there won't be ARGish stuff coming out prior to that event to start filling in back story and introductory material that we'll need to follow this ARG. In fact many of us are hoping for this because more than a month is very long wait to kick off at a closed event with limited attendance. Many of us are hoping that once the finale has aired in all markets- after next Thursday- we might start seeing some lead up action.

I wouldn't wait to start getting caught up unless you don't mind spoilers as I think general concensus has been declared that this is a Lost ARG jumping off between seasons 4 and 5 so those of us up to date aren't going to walk on egg shells for johnny-come-latelys spoiler tagging all discussion of Lost or it would seriously impede game discussion and flow.

I've watched the first 3 seasons over the past 2 weeks. It's a lot of Lost, but the fact that it hasn't bored me (seeing so much of it) is a pretty good sign. Depending on work or school, I'm sure you could get caught up in time.

There is no doubt you can. I watched all 4 seasons in 4 weeks. thanks abc.com

haha good job. i watched the first season non-stop once and was ready to shoot myself three or four episodes from the end. its a very tiring experience, i wouldn't suggest it unless you were on a really long road trip (i wasn't but i learned from my mistake)
