Here's a weird one. If you look at the full raw email from info@ it includes this:

Code:
Return-Path: <info>
Received: from octagonglobalrecruitment.com ([72.47.249.66])
        by mx.google.com with ESMTP id c20si1393708rvf.1.2008.06.19.08.49.09;
        Thu, 19 Jun 2008 08:49:09 -0700 (PDT)
Received-SPF: pass (google.com: domain of infoSPLAToctagonglobalrecruiting.com designates 72.47.249.66 as permitted sender) client-ip=72.47.249.66;
Authentication-Results: mx.google.com; spf=pass (google.com: domain of infoSPLAToctagonglobalrecruiting.com designates 72.47.249.66 as permitted sender) smtp.mail=info@octagonglobalrecruiting.com

Notice that there's a octagonglobalrecruitment.com in there in addition to the octagonglobalrecruiting.com we already know.

What's weird about it (not that it means anything, it's just weird) is that octagonglobalrecruitment.com doesn't have the same domain registration information as the regular OGR domain.

Since it was registered 10 years ago, probably not.

New Website?

Have you guys seen this? I was just browsing and i found this...
http://www.dharmainitiative.com/- It was apparently last modified on the 11th of June 2008
I also managed to find this:
http://www.dharmainitiative.com/images/images.swf

I just did a quick google search on the Diapause Cycle and found that is was "A period during which growth or development is suspended and physiological activity is diminished, as in certain insects in response to adverse environmental conditions."

I'm really sorry if you already know this or it's irrelevant, I just thought it had potential and that you guys may want to know about it.

What was on the page when you found it? Now it says
Quote:
Final Preparations are being made.
Please note: this site has nothing to do with "World of Warcraft" and it is not affiliated with any other sites.

First (or second rule) of ARG.
Look at the registration:

Quote:
Registrant:
Domains by Proxy, Inc.
Created on: 05-Oct-05
Expires on: 05-Oct-08
Last Updated on: 04-Oct-07
Domain servers in listed order:
NS3.IXWEBHOSTING.COM
NS4.IXWEBHOSTING.COM

Then compare to the known ingame sites. Chances are good this might just be a fan site. Hard to tell sometimes.

Second rule: Look at the source code on the page Cool

Third rule, do a select all, which may reveal text that is the same color as the background.

At least I think this is a rule for ARG's, although I guess if you are viewing source code, you would find the same thing. So maybe rule 2.5.

Lost Show vs. Lost Experience vs. Canon vs. OctagonGlobalRecruiting

As to the previous discussion of "how do Dharma and Widmore fit together?" or "is the Lost experience canon?"-

Warning: Spoilers ahead. I have my own theory about an aspect of Lost that fits certain things together and, even if not totally correct, can give a good perspective to view these things from.

Once Ben is "transported" off the Island, he makes his way to a hotel where he asks what year it is. He has moved through both time and space. From that you can assume that the Island, when moved, can also do so.

According to Ben, moving the Island is both dangerous and unpredictable. Is this simply because there is no control over the "movement" of the Island or is it because we don't quite understand the dimensions that time and space may only be a few of? Yes, that's correct. I put forth that the Island moves not only left and right (simple location shifts) and up and down (sliding along a timeline) but also in and out (from one dimension into another).

If so, what we know from the Lost Experience, the Show, BadTwin, and whatever happens with Octagon, are all true but not necessarily when compared to each other. From "Looking Back" at Lostpedia-

Quote:
Damon Lindelof: I would say in terms of all the… background that we did, in terms of the Valenzetti equation and explaining the formation of the Hanso Foundation and doing the other films…we'd consider that stuff canon to the show. Where there'd have to be wiggle room is the Rachel Blake story where she's in the real world, in the outside world as we define it, the show Lost might be defined in an entirely different outside world so we can't vouch for the overall fit ability and veracity of everything that Rachel was doing.

If this is the case, not every piece of information must fit neatly togther.

Supporting information for this theory- (numbered for easier debate)

1.) "Where there'd have to be wiggle room is the Rachel Blake story where she's in the real world, in the outside world as we define it, the show Lost might be defined in an entirely different outside world so we can't vouch for the overall fit ability and veracity of everything that Rachel was doing."

2.) In the last episode, Miles asks Charlotte why she wants to leave after trying so hard to get back to the Island again. She later tells Daniel that she isn't leaving because she is still "looking for where she was born." Lostpedia suggests that even though Ben had previously stated that she was born in Essex, England, that this is evidence that she was born on the Island. I put forth that, in a different dimension, Charlotte came to the Island. During her stay it was moved, she got off the Island, realized that, although similiar, that this wasn't her home, and came back hoping to be there for the next "jump" so that she could continue "looking for where she was born".

3.) The damned four-toe statue- Is it likely that the statue is of an Alien? Or a king of ancient Atlantis? More plausible for Lost (and this theory) would be to simply say that it is of a person. A part of a larger group who came to the Island but just a person. Of course, this group could have come to the Island while it was in a dimension where people evolved slightly different and only have four-toes.

4.) In Season 4's "Cabin Fever", Richard comes to the hospital soon after Locke is born. Later, still showing interest, he visits a young Locke and despite a picture drawn by John which clearly represents the Black Smoke Monster (his ability and/or connection to the Island are therefore already a given), Richard tests John to evaluate what type of character he has. In my theory, Richard is actually looking for a particular John Locke and he believes that the one in this dimension is not the correct one.

5.) Eko and Claire- Both share a character and timeframe in their flashbacks.

a.) Richard Malkin, a psychic, has what appears to be a horrific reaction to the news that Claire plans to give Aaron up for adoption. Four months later, after unsuccessfully stalking her, he changes his tactics and tells her that he found a family which will take Aaron, buys her an airline ticket, gives her $6,000, and tells her that she must be on Flight 815. The show slants towards him knowing full well what he is doing by placing her on this plane. This is only days before flight 815.

b.) Eko visits Malkin to investigate the "resurrection" of his daughter. Malkin tells Eko that he is a fraud as a psychic. If true, it totally negates every reaction that Malkin had during the episode "Raised by Another". This also takes place only days before flight 815.

The simple solution is that Richard Malkin is lying to Eko. However, even though farfetched, in my theory, Eko and Claire are in two separate realities and the Richard Malkin in one is different than the Richard Malkin in the other. How is it possible that Eko and Claire are from different dimensions yet were in the same plane crash? First, we know that the Island can reach out and stop a gun from firing so in some way it is powerful, aware, and able to make decisions. Second, at the time of the crash, Desmond had failed to enter the numbers which is believed to have caused an electromagnetic pulse which caused flight 815 to crash. It is also believed that the Island could have been in the "moving" phase because of this. Assuming those to be true, when the pulse hit flight 815, is it possible that the Island pulled an Eko from one dimension, a Claire from another, a Charlie from yet another, and so on?

6.) Dharma's "Incident"- Dharma's goal was ultimately to "save the world". Anything they did then would be a part of that. Even insuring their own continuation. When Dharma first discovered the cavern where they built their timetraveling teleporter, they must have found the ancient device which "moves" the Island. How would they know what the properties of that part of the Island could do unless like any would, they used the device. This moved them to a another dimension which most likely had a "Dharma Initiative". Somehow they set up a computer on top of the electromagnetic pulse to keep the Island from "moving" again thus insuring that supply drops and reality continuity would continue. Entering the numbers then became a vital part of "saving the world".

Even though probably at least 90% incorrect, this line of thinking could explain how some things just don't fit together either through a lack of information, understanding, or even timeline as continuity between these different "realities" (the Lost Experience, Octagon, and even cases of the Show vs. itself) might not actually exist.

Another resource is the handy compendium of all websites which cropped up during previous LOST Experience games:
[INFO] List of Websites In-Game, OoG, and Meta -- buried in our Archives.

While it is true that domains do change hands, and it *might* be possible that a fansite domain was transferred over to the people running a new official game, it is much more likely that it is the same owner ramping up again for more confusion.

New Website?

Thanks for the tips, guys... I'll definitely check those things out next time.
At least we can almost certainly rule that site out, now.

I can't wait until this ARG is in full swing. It should be an interesting ride... I didn't take part in Lost Experience 1,unfortunately. I did participate in Find 815, though. I'm really looking forward to this Very Happy

There was a spoiler on spoilerslost.blogspot.com (don't click, if you don't want to be spoiled):
Quote:
7) New LOST interactive game start at Comic-Con, register to become a member of Dharma Initiative. Depending on how you do on the test you will be a Physicist, Chemist, or even a Workman.

So my best guess is, that there will be a stand, where you can fill out a formular or something like that.

And you can do the same thing on the website.

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't we try and shy away from discussing PM's OOG conversations here?

This is not a big deal at all, just putting it out there.
