How many of you are trekking to San Diego for this?
Just wondering....

I am a casual Lost-er, having watched all the episodes but not really partaking in the outside activities. Until I saw the last commercial, and just couldn't resist signing up. Now I have an invitation to go to San Diego on July 24th. I am actually only a 4 hour drive away. Is anyone from this forum considering attending the actual event? Anyone think it will be worth $100 in gasoline to do it? I am not so sure....

Here's a note of gossip....my aunt runs group sales at one of the major SD hotels, and there is talk about the film crew booked then....can't help but wonder if they are going to film the recruitment and use it as part of the storyline. I told her to find out if they were ABC affiliated.

There is not a rule or anything in the terms of service that restrict this, as best as I can remember. In fact, it tends to come up so infrequently that there's not a solid social convention for it. I've seen direct talk about stuff, information hidden behind spoiler tags, and use of a separate thread for OOG talk (when a game has graduated to its own subforum.) In general, PM's don't typically talk about their games until they're over (because that breaks the curtain), so it's not a common issue.

I do have to say that it would have been nice to have that comment behind a spoiler tag instead of just in an inline quote.

Since the game hasn't even officially started yet, and whoever made that statement originally didn't have the common sense to NOT say it, and we already saw a list of job postings which seem to be of the "let's go build a facility on an island" type, and we know that there is to be an aptitude test, is the actual repeating of that statement here really saying anything that we couldn't/wouldn't/shouldn't have already figured out?

I'm going- the commercial was actually my tipping point. It probably cost them quite a bit to run that ad at that time (even though it was ABC's ad- they could have gotten a lot of ad money from Ford or L'Oreal or whoever) and they KNEW that we would all be salivating. I don't think it's going to be a small deal.

If you have a place to stay and all you are thinking about is gas, I'd say go for it! There will be plenty of other stuff to do and see, I'm sure! Wink

Site Terms of Service state that the PM himself cannot speak of a game that is actively in progress, especially in his own thread. There is no restriction from the players talking all they want about comments made by the PM outside of these forums, OOG or otherwise.

Seems OK
This ARG has gotta be decent if its being funded by a large company like ABC

Im kinda new to ARGing and i started with the Hellboy ARG, but i have never used Unfiction before. Does anyone know if there is a "Official" Thread for the "Octagon Global Recruiting/ Dharma Initiative/ Lost" ARG?

if not then i guess i will just post my findings here. Maybe this ARG will be pretty good.

It semms a lil'bit amateur-ish though.
*Crosses Fingers*
hoping for the best!!! Smile

Its my understanding that once an actual ARG is confirmed and/or starts, we get moved out of the "news and rumors" section. We would then get a spot under Chaotic Fiction.

When they judge this as starting, I don't know. Perhaps comic-con, or maybe if we get emails before then.

ive never heard of that but, maybe that will come of later use. paranoia and over analyzation are the bread and butter of an ARGers skill.

So is research. Did you actually go to the site you found or just decide to post it?

Google analytics is a well known (to webmasters) statistics solution from google, it monitors traffic to the site essentially.

if you mean the google site, then yes i went to it. though I've never seen it before today. so better off posting something that ends up being nothing then not posting at all and missing a clue.

@ Luckycharm

I don't know how you came to the conclusion that this ARG looks ametuer-ish. The commercial is well done and the site is just a "jobs page" and shouldn't be much more complicated than that.

As far as watching sites and researching, the game hasn't even started and won't until we get to take our aptitude tests and Octagon gets back to us about the results. It won't be until then (sometime after July 27th) that unfiction will be considering giving this it's own forum.

Until then, a request, please consider reducing the size of your avatar as it really deforms the layout of the entire thread.

nothing special about the third except the octagon global recruiting commercial slowed down X2. Tough it does point out a pentagon floating in space. (probably nothing)

Ok, whoa. Have you ever seen the television show or played any of the previous games? Maybe it's just me, and that could very well be, but I thought those clips were way old news. I thought the whole Joshua crap was a non issue now that the boat blew up....making it a part of the previous internet interaction, and not a part of the new "recruiting" session.

Or have I been paying too much attention to DELETED and QUEST?

You're right, Sassy, it's all old news, and the words in the clip are actually "Jacob loves you." So, what with all the folks posting without reading what's here first, this thread is getting really bloated--thus decreasing the chances of anyone reading it before posting.

Ugly cycle, right? Is there a way to lock this thread down and open a new one when the game finally starts? I think it would help cut down on posts like Lucky Charms'.
