Loved seeing the panel on doc's site. Giving production related (and some joke) gifts to the people in the audience who asked questions - brilliant and funny.

And the revoking of the sponsorship at the end. Laughing Rolling Eyes

recap of Comic-Con 08!

Okay, i think we are in need of a recap of the events at Comic-Con, so here it goes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=osXPybrjYeM Part 1
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avuVIzjTSDY Part 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0NT7G1hXDvo Part 3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLcFIg8YAsI Part 4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EchDKE1uOBA Part 5

People took a test at the DHARMA booth. There was a video at the booth that was transmitted by Bluetooth. This was almost a complete failure due to technical diffculites. We got a glimpse of it, though, and it's basically a "hacked" version of the video showed on the outside of the DHARMA booth.

At the LOST panel, Hans Van Eeghen announced the results: everyone failed dismally except for a few. These few were taken back to the booth where they were shown a secret video. Dan Bronsen, a geeky teenager with a small video camera, recorded it and interupted Damon and Carlton to show it to everyone. Here's a transcript:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Hello. My name is Dr. Marvin Candle and i....you know what? Forget it. No point in games anymore, right? If you're watching this now, you already know that my name is, my real name is Pierre Cheng and i...(baby cries off screen and the Doctor looks over. He gets up from the couch and yells: "Jennifer! Just take him outside, please! I've got one chance at this." He sits back down.) [static] ...professor of (something) astro-physics from Ann Arbor, Michigan. I was brought [static] years ago to conduct experiments to study the Kerr metric solution to the Einstein field equation and... [static] If i can hold this pinhole open long enough, you should be recieving my message roughly thirty years [static] If you're... [static] The American president is a man named George W. Bush and you share digital infomation instantaneously on something called "internet". And, unfortunatly, my colleagues and i are all dead [static] and if, of a violent purge, one that we are apparently powerless to escape. (he looks down sadly at his right arm, which looks normal, and grasps it with his other normal hand). [static] This infomation comes to me from a source that has proven himself to be credable.

Other man (possibly Daniel Faraday): None of that matters. It doesn't matter. Just get to it, please! [static]

Dr. Cheng: Because, if this transmission is successful, it's proof the work i've been doing here is valid. This place, it has extraordinary properties. I'm begging you, no matter what's happened, it's imperative that the DHARMA Initiative be reconstituted. You have to continue to research [static] and you have to do it now. Time is not just of the essence, it is the essence. Perhaps you'll be able to find a way to save us, to change the past and to [static] (something) You can't let it....

Other man: This is useless! Alright? It's just useless. They'll never gonna see this. How do i turn this off?

Dr. Cheng: No, no! W-w-what are you doing?

Other man: How do you turn it off?

Dr. Cheng: No! What are you doing? [static]

We've heard of the Kerr metric before. It was in Daniel Faraday's journal in "The Constant".

And that was pretty much it. I think that Comic-Con was stage one of this ARG, and it is now over. Stage Two, the website(s), begins this monday. Be there.

It's quite possible that it is Faraday. However, Dr. Cheng never gave the other man's name. I agree that it sounded alot like Faraday. If it is Faraday, then Faraday used his machine to travel back 30 years in the past.

Think about this. When Desmond left the barrier of the island, he had some issues with time. When the island was "moved" perhaps that would jostle everyone through time. Faraday could still be on the island correct? What if he was put back to that time?

Just a theory.

Great recap deposse! Just a few things to add. If you want higher quality videos (the same videos just at a higher bit-rate)
http://www.docarzt.com/lost-clips/video-of-the-panel.php
Scroll down past the youtube videos and there are some from Veoh.

Also there is another video that was part of the panel presentation that is clipped from the previous videos (I think they wanted to get that one up quicker). The placement of the clip is around 5:10 into part 5 of the videos. Spoiler fronting because the link wording is a bit spoiler-ish
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.docarzt.com/lost-clips/the-new-dharma-esque-video.php

Again both an LQ youtube and an HQ Veoh versions.

And concerning the transcript
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'm pretty sure it's "theoretical astro-physics"

And the 'hacked' OGR bluetooth video is available here
http://lostoctagonglobalrecruiting.blogspot.com/2008/07/exclusive-dharma-ogr-video-via.html
The quality is poor and the sound is the ambient noise of the con floor. But hey what do you expect out of a video that is of a video on a cell phone Wink

____

I'll give my impressions of the video a bit later once everyone's had a chance to watch it.

It's interesting to note that Dr. cheng used the word "pinhole". The Kerr metric is used to describe the rotation of black holes and how everything, including light, must rotate when near a black hole. When the Kerr metric is applied to Einstien's general relativity, we get a wormhole (think "Stargate"). According to wikipedia: "Since the trajectory of observers and particles in general relativity are described by time-like curves, it is possible for observers in this region to return to their past."

That definitely sounds important. Smile

I think that is going to be a very elucidating read for the coming game.

Anyone know if there is a time on when www.dharmawantsyou.com goes live? I'm hoping for midnight est (if not my poor F5 button is going to get unnecessarily abused).

EDiT: Another one to read up on, as dposse mentioned.

EDiT2: http://www.dharmawantsyou.com/site/index.html
A flash that doesn't load (black screen only) with a title of "Wife2". I saw nothing in the source code out of the ordinary.
Anyone know of a decent freeware flash decompiler?

Phase two is to begin on Monday, July 28th. It's possible that it'll begin at midnight. And thanks for the link.
